That’sa fair point. We should be more anti cardinals than Kyler
can't believe Kyler is that yoked working out in an F- facility

And/or their body of work prior to the draft made them stand out as outliers who could find success at a smaller size.I think things have changed enough that you have to throw out some of the old mindset towards height but his weight could genuinely be the showstopper. All those guys were over 200 coming out
This guy lost his fastball a lot faster than Kiper did, that's a factTodd McShay: Bryce Young Is a Smaller Patrick Mahomes
Yeah that picture seals it for me.and Kyler looks like a ten year old on the field.

Obviously the size (frame even more than height) is a very legitimate concern with Bryce Young. I almost reluctantly bumped Bryce down recently in my rookie rankings to my QB2 (one spot below Stroud) after what was a very impressive Combine workout for Stroud. However, Young remains the top passer in this class, and by a pretty substantial margin, imo. His poise under pressure truly sets him apart; the Mahomes comparisons are real. Even with all of the rules in place to protect NFL QBs, however, you have to worry how long Young can survive. The photo @massraider posted above with Bryce Young and Kyler Murray standing side-by-side has to give you serious pause.Yeah that picture seals it for me.and Kyler looks like a ten year old on the field.

I'm curious as to when that pic was taken. Young came into the combine at 5'10 3/8, 205? Murray is 207? This looks like more than 2 lbs apart.Obviously the size (frame even more than height) is a very legitimate concern with Bryce Young. his size wasn't an issue in college playing against mostly NFL sized guys
Great points. I think the 205 was the consequence of many Taco Bell runs and milkshakes (plus about 10 pounds of rocks in his pockets)! He wore a baggy sweat jacket while attending the Combine for a reason! lolI'm curious as to when that pic was taken. Young came into the combine at 5'10 3/8, 205? Murray is 207? Hmm....at least we know Young is bigger than Mina Kimes.
I will continue to wait until he has a landing spot to make my decision on him - his size wasn't an issue in college playing against mostly NFL sized guys.
I wish more people waited. Enormous differences between teams offensive lines and other key factors to be all in or all out on almost any prospect.will continue to wait until he has a landing spot to make my decision on him

I am by no means out on Bryce Young; however, Stroud is arguably a safer prospect. Like you, I will save my final analysis for after the Draft. If he stays at 1.01, he will likely move back to my QB1, as well.

I think the new rules help a ton. Guys aren't typically getting clobbered like they used to.Before Brees it was unheard of for a 6'0" quarterback to make it in the NFL. First ballot hall of famer.Well that’s a bit much.Looks about 5’9” and despite adding weight for combine plays at around 170-175.
Tiny tiny guy.
Better odds of playing an Oompa Loompa in the movies than being a successful NFL QB.
Bust of the century.
Did you actually ever see him play in college? There’s quite a body of work that suggests he might be a very good pro QB.
I’m just sayin.
He’s very talented.
Just smaller than any other successful NFL QB in history so will be interesting to see.
Maybe this time it’s different and he’ll start the trend of tiny QBs dominating the NFL.
Russell Wilson was seen as tiny at 5'11". Superbowl champion.
Kyler Murray at 5'10" pushed that envelope further. Offensive rookie of the year.
The trend has started, it's just a question of what is causing it. Were all of those players really outliers? Or do the new NFL rules for quarterbacks make it easier for smaller guys to succeed?

I was actually thinking back to Doug Flutie, 5-10 180, and that really good few seasons he had in Buffalo, and going back even further, Jim McMahon, who was 6-1 195, and he had a hell of a time staying healthy, but was a difference making QB for a few years before injuries (cheap shots by GB) finally derailed him. I think in today's rules, they'd have had a much better careers.
I think size never mattered as much as people made it out to, and that a lot of guys who would have been good got passed over when maybe they shouldn't have been. Can't say who for sure, but a lot of possibilities. My point being, I think in today's day and age, teams are much more willing to look outside the box then they used to be.
Here’s hoping he does nothing but eat & lift for a few months.Lots of great points. I still have my doubts about Young though. It isn’t the height. He is so skinny. He needs to bulk up quickly if he wants to have any of chance of making it halfway through a season.
No. 2: Bryce Young, Alabama
“The natural, that’s what he is. He’s as natural at playing the position as you’re going to see. He makes so many great quarterback plays. Just like C.J. Stroud, the brain is on another level. The ability to read defenses, see the field, throw the appropriate throw…For a guy that’s a college quarterback, he’s as slick as you’re going to see. What I mean by that, you might not see a ton of wow, oh my goshthrows from Bryce Young, but you see a lot of wow, oh my gosh releases and stuff like that…His ability to throw slants and screens, he can be like (Patrick) Mahomes where he can just flick it out or Aaron Rodgers where you’re just like, ‘Woah, was that out quick.’ The ability to move in the pocket and buy time, bounce around, make people miss, and then have this incredible patience…There’s really so many good things to talk about. He’s a very good athlete, he’s a great decision-maker, he’s aggressive – but not as aggressive as C.J. Stroud – and he can make some wow, highlight-type plays. But he’s No. 2 because of his size and his arm is good but it’s not on the same level as C.J. Stroud.”
This is the 2nd Alabama QB in a row where I am reading about his ability to see the field, I am not sure if I want to buy it this time.OHIO STATE QB C.J. STROUD IS NO. 1 PROSPECT ON CHRIS SIMMS’ 2023 NFL DRAFT QUARTERBACK RANKINGS, AVAILABLE NOW ON “CHRIS SIMMS UNBUTTONED” PODCAST

you say that like AJ Mcclarin isn’t a complete stud. This is the 2nd Alabama QB in a row where I am reading about his ability to see the field, I am not sure if I want to buy it this time.

I cannot help but notice that these otherworldly intangibles about seeing the field, and processing speed, and 'ability to move in the pocket' are like word for word Mac Jones stuff before the draft. It's uncanny. A bunch of stuff that cannot be objectively measured. Alabama has had TWO straight genius savants at seeing the field in a row?you say that like AJ Mcclarin isn’t a complete stud.
More importantly, did you watch young play?

I don’t disagree with anything you said.I think we find out about intangibles, and feel, and clutch.
The only similarities between Mac and Bryce are school, winning, and seeing the field. Mac was and is very “football smart”, he’s just more limited. I’d love for him to be our QB coach in a few years.I cannot help but notice that these otherworldly intangibles about seeing the field, and processing speed, and 'ability to move in the pocket' are like word for word Mac Jones stuff before the draft. Been a draft junkie for a long time, and while I think it is very nice that someone believes this about a QB, I am not sure this see the field/processing stuff can really be measured quite that easily, and the garbage pail of history is chock full of QBs who BLEW US AWAY ON THE CHALKBOARD.
I am much more interested in quantifiable stuff that separates them from the pack. Good or bad. Anthony Richardson works through his progressions, but his completion percentage was 2nd to last in SEC. Maybe Hendon Hooker is Joe Montana, but we don't know, he's been running the Texas Tech Chuck n Duck down in Tennessee, so we have no idea.
I think we find out about intangibles, and feel, and clutch.
As was scripted weeks ago.Bryce Young did not weigh in this morning at Alabama’s pro day. He’ll stand on his 204 pounds from the Scouting Combine
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Alabama QB Bryce Young met with the Raiders and Panthers.
The Panthers currently sit at the top of the draft. Most pundits expect them to take Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, but they did send their brass to Young's pro day at Alabama. The Raiders, on the other hand, will take the podium at pick No. 7. There's virtually no chance Young is on the board that late, so they would need to trade up if they want him. All signs point to Young landing in Houston with the second pick. As NFL-ready as a quarterback can be, Young will be the centerpiece of the Texans' rebuild.

The next stop for Young is now the NFL Draft.

It’s the smarter pick, IMO.I’d rather the Colts take Young over Richardson if they get the chance.
I'm still in the boat that thinks Carolina is out of their mind if they take anyone other than Young at #1.It’s the smarter pick, IMO.I’d rather the Colts take Young over Richardson if they get the chance.
Shades of Mahomes. Young has tremendous poise under pressure. I do worry about his small stature, however.
I think just passing skill, putting it on outside shoulder etc., is pretty great. Touch/accuracy, pretty great. A lot of those passes, really not a better spot to put it.Shades of Mahomes. Young has tremendous poise under pressure. I do worry about his small stature, however.
