QB Carson Wentz, KC (2 Viewers)

Eagles exercised Carson Wentz's fifth-year option.

With little risk involved, there was never a doubt Philly would pick up Wentz's fifth-year option. The 26-year-old is now set to make $8,487,927 in 2019 and $22,783,000 the following year (barring an extension). Although Wentz's option doesn't become fully guaranteed until the first day of the new league year, it is fully guaranteed for next season in the event of an injury. GM Howie Roseman is on record of wanting to ink his franchise signal-caller to a long-term deal, but whether that's completed this year could come down to Wentz's health this season.

will be interesting to see how much Prescott makes. He'll have to get paid before Wentz or Goff, and that'll be a better comp then the Aaron Rodgers of the world.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports there will be "no limitations" for Carson Wentz (back) in OTAs.

Per Rapsheet, the Eagles will be "smart" with their franchise quarterback, but that he is expected to "be involved in the majority of all work." Speaking in mid-April, Wentz had said he was not yet fully healed. Now Wentz should get in his usual work in mandatory minicamp before training camp.

Carson Wentz (back) will be a full participant during OTAs.

Ian Rapoport reported this would be the case on Monday, and the Eagles confirmed it before OTAs opened on Tuesday. With Wentz fully recovered, the focus will shift to his impending extension, which Adam Schefter expects to be done at some point this offseason.

NFL.com's Mike Garofolo believes Carson Wentz is "locked in potentially for a return to MVP form."

Garofolo passed along his thoughts after watching Eagles OTAs and listening to team observers, including coach Doug Pederson. In addition to finally getting over his knee and back injuries, Wentz has "shed some pounds." Headed into his age-27 campaign, Wentz does indeed offer yearly MVP upside, though he will not be amongst the betting favorites. In early fantasy drafts, Wentz is being taken as a lower-end QB1.

Doug Pederson Picks 6 Eagles Who Have Stood Out in OTAs

Excerpt:

Carson Wentz, QB, Year 4

We've talked about this guy just a tad this offseason. Wentz, 26, looks like himself, which is to say he doesn't look like a guy recovering from injury. In the first two open practices, we've commented about how good Wentz has looked: Day 1, Day 2.

Getting on the same page as his receivers this offseason is important and now Wentz has a head start. Remember, he was still recovering from his knee injury this time last year. This spring, he hasn't shown signs of problems with his knee or his back. He's even ditched the knee brace on his left leg.

The #Eagles and Carson Wentz have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension through 2024.

Most people think Carson had a bad season last year because the team was 5-6 in games he started. However, the defense didn't help giving up two TD's in OT and blowing a 17-0 4th quarter lead against Carolina. The ineffective running game due to injuries and turnover at the position also hurt him. In the 6 losses the Eagles rushed for 117, 81, 58, 71, 58, and 34 yards or an average of about 70 yards per game. His QB rating was actually higher in 2018 than 2017 (his MVP year if he doesn't get hurt after 13 games) and if you throw out the New Orleans game which got out of hand early and led to him throwing some desperation interceptions, he threw 21 TD's and 4 interceptions in his other 10 games.

Line up Ertz and Goedert with Jeffery on one side and DJax on the other to blow the top off the defense, plus a receiving threat out of the backfield. Scary good passing offense. Bargain as the 8th QB coming off the board with top-3 potential.

Would've been nice had Melvin Gordon's agent had said Gordon wants to leave if not paid sooner. Would've much preferred him over Howard. Great bell cow back with receiving ability. I know the cost would be an issue but he's one of the few worth it.

Also with all these rankings coming out by people on trios and such Jason Kelce has a ton of material for the next speech to go along with the Bull#### said about Wentz earlier in the offseason.

Really hoping I can grab Carson at a value but worry the hype will catch up......super excited for this season.

I don’t think the hype will get too out of control before the season starts because I doubt he plays much during the preseason games. I’m guessing a lot of folks will want to see regular season proof first.

Only thing he has to bounce back on is perception. His play was quietly very good last year.
I honestly didn't realize he averaged nearly 280 yards per game.  When I was watching Eagles/checking thier  box scores, seemed like he was struggling.

the offense was clunky because they had no running game

wont be the case this year

I got him in my Keeper league. I can only keep 4 so I'm most likely keeping Carson/Melvin Gordon/Sony Michel/ JuJu. I'm hoping to get a good value pick on Jackson though

Coach Doug Pederson said the Eagles "are not gonna hold back" on Carson Wentz at training camp.

The team will monitor how much he throws, but there are no restrictions. Wentz was a full participant at OTAs in May, so he looks to be over his back issue that was bothering him as recently as April. Wentz could be in the mix for MVP and will be an option as a low-end QB1 with upside.

The talk on Philly sports radio this morning (97.5) was how well Wentz and DeSean Jackson are connecting. Today's practice notes allude to that as well.

PRACTICE NOTES

• CARSON WENTZ UPDATE: Wentz struggled with the deep ball during Saturday’s practiceand he got off to a bad start in that regard on Monday as well. Wentz targeted Alshon Jefferydeep with his first 3-on-3 pass attempt but the ball was overthrown once again. Rasul Douglasmade a pretty nifty one-handed pick on the play.

Wentz really bounced back after that early mistake, though. The fourth-year quarterback hit DeSean Jackson on a comeback for about 25 yards. The offense then hurried up to the line and Wentz aired it out to Jackson deep down the field for a 40-plus yard touchdown (Avonte Maddoxwas the burn victim). Wentz found Jackson again on a post for at least 30 yards. He went back to Jackson yet again on a post for at least 20 yards. The Eagles must be very happy to see those guys getting on the same page. It’s also just very clear that Jackson hasn’t lost a step. Wentz threw to Jackson on a slot screen and the wide receiver took it to the house after a block gave him an opening to out-run the defense. Ain’t nobody catching No. 10 from behind.

Wentz also did a great job of working the middle of the field and spreading the ball to multiple targets. Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor were among those recipients. Wentz targeted Jordan Howard 15-plus yards down the field and it didn’t look pretty as the ball was off target. Seemed like there was a miscommunication, though, since they spent time talking after the play. Howardlater dropped a pass in the flat from Wentz. Gonna go out on a limb and say that Howard, who’s averaged 1.5 receptions per game over his career, isn’t going to be a huge pass-catching factor in this offense.

Back to Wentz, though, it’s worth noting that a former NFL quarterback was impressed by his performance today.

At the @Eagles training camp practice-Carson Wentz is putting on a dang clinic of anticipation and ball placement and touch and zip and all things that pertain to flat out “DEALING”

I can't, under any  normal circumstances advocate keeping a QB in a league under 16 teams unless it is superflex/2 QB.  But since you're also keeping Michel, I would imagine the cupboards are pretty thin on your roster.

Oh it is. The fact we can only keep 4 too is what sucks. I wanted to run a Keeper league and eventually change it if people liked it and we had a good crew to a dynasty league but there's push back. Also my league sucked for a bit as we had some predatory traders who are no longer in the league. Would trade their keepers they'd have to get rid of anyway and get keeper picks (we draft from round 5 on ward given the keepers are picks 1-4) so we had guys giving the best teams picks 5-8 and basically having 2 picks in those rounds hogging all the talent yearly. I haven't been good enough to suck as we have a losers bracket winner gets the 1st pick and so fourth and I haven't had a good enough roster to trade a guy or two for a higher pick either. I also lost Jordy Nelson and Gronk over the last few yrs and stupidly traded OBJ as a rookie and can't even remember what I got for him. I've made a few bad moves that set me back. Somehow I ended up winning he league like 3 yrs ago

Have been drafting him at or slightly before ADP all summer long, managing to add him in 3 of 4 startups and 2 of 3 redrafts. People DO FORGET how good he was two years ago. If healthy he's an absolute lock for top 5 production with a realistic shot at #1

Those in best ball need to get Wentz asap.  Pair him up with someone with a more solid floor.

Not only do they forget how good he was, but they get stuck on how shaky (at times) he looked last season......I think that was an aberration (didn't trust his body), and I'm pretty high on him this year.  I agree he's got a legit shot at overall QB #1.....great O line, and lots of weapons....get to play skins and vagiants twice.....also, Nick Foles thrived in the system.....skies the limit.
