Discuss. This is pretty important for Larry Fitzgerald, Beanie Wells, Tim Hightower and perhaps Steve Breaston/Early Doucet/Andre Roberts.

I think he certainly can. Remember Warner getting shelled out of NY to make way for Eli? Warner looked finished. But he fought back. I'm not even sure which player is younger between Anderson and Leinart. Certainly Anderson has looked terrible in recent season, but he did make the Pro Bowl a few years ago. Leinart hasn't really shown anything at all since USC.

I think Leinart has a chance to keep the job, but I do plan on picking up Derek Anderson late in drafts to ride the tail end of my roster. If he somehow regains the magic from a few years back, he'll be a tremendous value. If not, you cut him for the next great thing or to cover for injuries elsewhere.

No.

The comparison to Kurt Warner is insane. Warner was a league MVP-level QB, borderline Hall of Famer before he came to Arizona. He'd had a couple bad years. Derek Anderson is a guy with a career 52.9% completion percentage, and as many INTs as TDs. His "good" season he completed just 56.5% of his passes and threw 19 INTs (vs. 29 TDs). Leinart at least has potential; Anderson simply isn't very good.

Unless Leinart comes walking out in the first preseason practice with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, I don't see him losing the starting job to Anderson. At least at the start of the regular season. He's familiar with the system, has been sitting behind Warner for awhile now, and I believe will get every opportunity to be "the man" in AZ. But I think he'll have somewhat of a short leash. If he sucks for the first 3-4 games, we might see Anderson in and even starting at some point.

The guy is just dreadful. He was an INT machine at Oregon State and an afterthought in the draft. The Ravens liked him so much that they cut him. Then he pieced together a fraction of one good season and people started treating him like a top 10 dynasty QB. Woops. Anderson just doesn't have the goods between the ears. His accuracy is terrible and he's a turnover waiting to happen.

If he sees extended time in the starting lineup for the Cardinals this season, all it means is that QB will the #1 priority on their offseason wish list.

For fantasy purposes, if your league penalizes interceptions, he might have negative points for the season.

Sadly, it'll probably happen somewhere, sometime this season. It won't be good, but it'll get you through the season & the rookie will take over in 2011-12.

(see sig)

Barring injury, I very much don't think so.

Leinart is in a great position to succeed. The supporting cast is certainly there. He's shown he has the talent but has needed time to mature. He's had that time and I believe he will progress. There is no shame in losing his job to Warner and I believe holding the clipboard over that time was a blessing in disguise for him long-term. The last time I saw Leinart step on a football field was I believe preseason game 3 last year. His stats were completely off the hook and he looked fantastic chucking it deeeeep.

I have Leinart on my short list to platoon late.

all this Leinart talk, and it's not even coming from LHUCKS.

however, for all the talk that Anderson is garbage and an INT machine.... keep in mine that Leinart has been mostly garbage with a career 14:20 TD:INT ratio. sure it would be nice if he could put something together, but that ratio has gone down from his rookie year when it was moderately respectable at 11:12.

The fact is neither one of these QBs looks like they have much talent. But they don't have talent in different ways. Leinart is a noodle armed lefty who lobs the ball to his 8 yard check-down. i haven't seen the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows, and he's about the last guy in the league you want to see throw an out pattern. but he can manage a game better than DA.

Anderson on the other hand makes poor decisions and doesn't have much touch. the one thing he can do/isn't afraid to do is chuck the ball down field to a covered WR and let his WR win a contested ball. it just so happens that the Cards have probably the best WR in the league at winning a jump-ball at 25 yards. Anderson's best season was also Braylon's best season, who is essentially a very poor man's Fitz. in the majority of his highlight reel TDs from that year Braylon out-jumped the DBs near the goal line.

in short, i think if Leinart is the QB it boosts the value Beanie/Hightower and hurts the WRs. Fitz will still get his because he always does, but DA is probably the guy you want to see if you're a Fitz/Breaston owner. Tt seems 90% certain that the Cards will begin the season with Leinart, unless he's vintage-2008 aweful in the preseason (3 INTs in a game). if Leinart is ho-hum and the Cards a losing, they might consider switching mid-season or around the bye.

and i wouldn't want Leinart as anything more than a QB3 in redraft, and i don't cary a 3rd.

I don't see why he couldn't win the job. Or to put it another way, I won't be surprised to see Leinart lose it.

Anderson sucks but so does Leinart. I'll be surprised if Arizona doesn't draft a qb next year.

:bs: - I'm going to put up three stat lines. One is Kurt Warner's three seasons prior to arriving in Arizona. One is Derek Anderson's three season prior to arriving in Arizona. The other one is Matt Leinart's previous three seasons.126 completions218 attempts1346 yards3 touchdowns8 interceptions356 completions562 attempts3850 yards10 touchdowns16 interceptions521 completions992 attempts6290 yards41 touchdowns37 interceptionsNow you tell me which line belongs to which player. Then explain to me how Matt Leinart has potential. :lmao:

Leinart has at times made me (and probably thousands of others) say to the TV "What is he doing? What the..." Anderson can take his job if he does that. Otherwise, no. Leinart starting has been a plan for a long long time now.

As others have mentioned, I don't think he can "win" the job.

But I do think there is a very good possibility he may start some games this year.

Most think it is Matt's job to lose, and I agree.

If (when) Anderson gets his chance, I just do not think he has the ability to maintain a productive presence.

In CLE, he had a great Oline, running game, and 3 targets to throw to that were over 6'4" (Joe Jervicious, Edwards, Winslow)

I think he lines up more with the like of

Kelly Holcomb and Billy Volek.

just gonna throw it out there:Anderson couldn't beat out Brady Quinn for the Browns' starting QB job, what makes anyone think he's going to beat out Leinart..not that ML is anything special, but Derek Anderson? oof

Quinn (like Leinart) got the benefit of the doubt here being the prized arm they drafted. Having to beat out a highly drafted player is fairly normal in the NFL. We frown too much upon competition and wants things spelled out for us in FF. Anderson could have gone to San Fran where he'd have to beat out Alex Smith for a roster spot, for example. I hope the Cards are tough on Leinart and insist upon immediate results. He's too much of a pretty-boy and I often don't care for his attitude in quotes I read. He needs to be more business-like and results oriented.
