QB Derek Carr, Retired (1 Viewer)

Derek Carr completed 34-of-56 passes for 435 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Raiders' 33-27, Week 1 win over the Ravens.

Carr did virtually all of his damage in the second half with the Raiders hanging 23 points on the Ravens across the fourth quarter and overtime after initially falling in a 14-0 hole in the first half. Carr's 56 attempts were the third-most of his career, and his 435 yards were the fourth-most. Carr's first touchdown was a 10-yard hookup with Darren Waller in the fourth quarter, and the second was the game-winning 31-yarder to Zay Jones in overtime with Carr fading away and Jones running free behind the defense. His interception was nearly a back-breaker at the goal line in overtime when Carr's pass went through Willie Snead's hands and popped into the air for a pick in the end zone. The Raiders got it back a couple plays later on a Lamar Jackson fumble. Carr will be a back-end QB2 for Week 2 at the Steelers.

Derek Carr completed 28-of-37 passes for 382 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders' 26-17 Week 2 win against the Steelers. 

Carr fought through what appeared to be a serious foot or ankle injury to lead the Raiders past the lifeless Steelers, who were without three key defensive players. He connected with TE Foster Moreau on a first half score and hit Henry Ruggs in stride for a 61-yard touchdown in the second half. Carr now has 817 passing yards, four TDs, and one interception through two games. He's taking what defenses are giving him and giving his underrated receiver group chances to make plays on deep shots. Carr could be a borderline QB1 option next week against Miami.

Ruggs is going to shine and take the top off defenses with his speed.  Edwards and John Brown are the perfect compliments to Ruggs' speed.  And all 3 of these guys makes Waller a nightmare to cover in the middle of the field.  Oh, and Drake is going to catch 75-80 balls this year as well.

The defense is going to be much improved but not great yet, meaning Vegas will still have to play catchup in the 4th quarter a lot this year meaning lots of passing.

Put it all together and Carr is going to be the man this year, at a fraction of the price people will pay for Mahomes or Allen or Jackson.

I still don' love him around pressure, he just doesn't look smooth navigating traffic in the pocket.  Not horrible, just not awesome.  That said, he throws a very pretty deep ball and when he has enough time, he is a very dangerous QB.

Plus, I am very pleasantly surprised with our defense thus far, which can only help with Carr, and the Raiders as a whole as well.

Positive vibes is the key.  Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it.  :rolleyes:

Carr is the Rodney Dangerfield of NFL & FF QBs. 

As my SF QB2 this dude has been consistent floor with a few boom games every single year.

Coach Jon Gruden said Derek Carr (ankle) is "ready to go" for Week 3 against the Dolphins.

Speaking earlier in the week following the road win over the Steelers, Gruden labeled Carr as "questionable" for the Miami game. Carr played through the minor ankle issue against Pittsburgh and is ready to rock against a Dolphins defense that just got blasted for 35 points in a shutout loss to the Bills. Carr will have some streaming appeal after a strong Weeks 1-2 against much tougher defenses.

Derek Carr completed 26-of-43 passes for 386 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in Las Vegas' 31-28 overtime win over the Dolphins.

It's the third consecutive game with at least 380 yards and multiple touchdowns for Carr, who initially helped the Dolphins take a first-quarter lead following an ugly throw for a pick-six. Carr eventually stormed the Raiders back with 25 unanswered points, finding Alec Ingold and Hunter Renfrow (5/77/1) for two red zone scores. Jacoby Brissett fought back admirably, scrambling for a one-yard touchdown to tie the game with :08 seconds remaining in regulation only to watch Carr drive Las Vegas' offense down the field on back-to-back possessions in overtime due in part to a 16-yard shot to Henry Ruggs (4/78) and two 30-yard passes to Bryan Edwards (3/89). The QB9 in fantasy points per game through three starts (Week 3 primetime bouts pending), Carr's first true test of the year against the Chargers in Week 4 will ultimately make or break his outlook as a matchup-proof fringe QB1.

Derek Carr completed 21-of-34 passes for 196 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Raiders' 28-14, Week 4 loss to the Chargers Monday night.

Carr was in the MVP conversation headed into this one, but this game pretty much put an end to that talk. He was 7-of-13 for 52 scoreless yards at halftime with the Raiders trailing 21-0. Carr tried to guide the Raiders back with third-quarter touchdowns to Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller, but a costly fourth-quarter interception put an end to Vegas' hopes. The throw went to a completely covered Waller and was picked off by Derwin James. Carr has two touchdowns in every game to this point and gets another tougher draw in Week 5 against the Bears on a short week. Carr will be more of a middling QB2 in that one for fantasy.

Derek Carr completed 30-of-46 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown in the Raiders' 23-16, Week 9 loss to the Giants.

Carr tossed his second pick-six of the year in this game and both of his interceptions landed in the hands of Giants safety Xavier McKinney. McKinney read Carr well and jumped Hunter Renfrow's route, resulting in an easy house call for the second-year safety. Carr earned most of his yards on short and intermediate throws, likely the result of Henry Ruggs' release earlier this week. He connected with Zay Jones and Bryan Edwards, the potential replacements for Ruggs, just one time on eight tries. Carr gets a juicy matchup with the Chiefs next week which will help him bounce back from this weak performance. He'll be a high-end QB2 and a solid streaming option in Week 10.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Derek Carr's future with the Raiders is likely tied to their next head coach.

Carr is coming off one of his better seasons, posting career highs in yards (4,804) and deep pass attempts (77) while leading the Raiders to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The Raiders need to decide whether they want to give Carr, who's entering a contract year, a top of the market extension, trade him, or let him play out his final season. Carr trade rumors have been mostly smoke the last few seasons but can't be ruled out in what's expected to be an active market for quarterbacks this offseason.

Thinking Carr would be way, way better than any other alternative we could get, but at the same time, that's yet another occasion where he's gone short of the to go line on fourth down, honestly?

Carr isn’t the problem.   He isn’t great but he is good enough.  The Raiders need to get an o line that doesn’t commit a penalty on every drive and a true WR1.  Carr has never had a true WR1.

I thought he made a valiant effort in that last drive. He’s a decent QB, falls into that category where he is good enough if other aspects of the team are strong enough - D, coaching, quality of supporting cast on O ala Broncos winning with crippled Peyton, 9ers going to Superbowl  with Jimmy etc etc. Easier said than done

Let's see how he is with a full off-season under the similar or new regime...but yeah he is Kirk Cousins plus- just more likeable and a bit more talented / better leader 

 
People drastically overestimate the # of QBs who would have done more with this roster during this tumultuous season. And facing the #7 most difficult schedule in the league. 10-7 and a chance to extend the season on the road on the very last play was nothing short of miracle.

Dude deserves better than this.

If he gets traded I hope it's to New Orleans.

 
From a Raider fan perspective. I have always found the idea that Carr is so bad he must be traded for an imaginary new QB with another team giving up enough assets to make it worthwhile humorous. 

I think people are spoiled warching someone like Rodgers who is among the all time best at the position. 

Is Carr on the level of Rodgers? No. Is Carr a very good QB? Yes. Can you win with Carr? Yes. 

I will tell you this... the fact that the Raiders suffered what they did this year and came out of it with a 10-7 record and a playoff spot is due to Bisaccia and Carr keeping that locker room together and fighting. His team loves him and his leadership is vastly under rated. Finally, he loves being a Raider like few players love being on a team. 

Short of getting a Rodgers or Wilson, Carr isn't going anywhere. 

 
I think LV would be crazy to get rid of him.  Stoopid crazy.

As a WFT fan (sadly), I would take Carr in about .01 seconds.   He's 30 so got 6-10 more years to go.  He's a decent leader.  Got a great arm.  Seems smart. I think he's a better Kirk Cousins, who we should have found a way to deal with but Bruce Allen had too big of an ego to do so. 

No idea what the cost is, but if he's available for anything other than a 1st round pick I'm all over this.  Especially if we can throw Payne, Ionidis, or Collins in the deal to lessen the draft pick hit and send some salary.  With a 1st rounder I may be more apt to take a chance on a younger guy like Pickett or Corral just from a salary cap perspective, so it's tough to give up a 1st.  But I have no problem going into the next 4-6 years with Carr starting for my team.  None. 

 
I didn't know he was the 50th.  I've seen offspring as high as the low double digits, like 12th, with royalty, but never a 50!

I wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st plus additional picks depending on where the trade partner is drafting.  I certainly wouldn't pull a Rams/Goff situation and absorb salary just to get rid of him.

Agree.  I just don't see LV really wanting him out anyway.  Seems like a lot of internet speculation.  The guy is good.  I guess NYG seems most likely to offer a decent package if they want him.  But they could probably get Wilson instead for the same package.

 
Mike Silver reports prospective Raiders coach Josh McDaniels has a "high opinion" of Derek Carr. 

The same is apparently true of potential GM Dave Ziegler. Infamously, McDaniels immediately went to war with Jay Cutler when he took the Broncos' job in 2009, eventually trading him to the Bears. Liking Carr would be a step in the right direction, but it's not as simple as that. Two months shy of his 31st birthday, Carr has only one year left on his deal, and is surely desperate for an extension. McDaniels literally drafted Tim Tebow, so he is willing to get harebrained at quarterback despite his years in the Tom Brady penthouse. We would not consider the Carr matter settled until the draft has come and gone. That is if McDaniels gets the job at all, of course.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said the team has the "capability of winning" with Derek Carr.

McDaniels added that he spoke with Carr the day before his introductory press conference but looks forward to meeting him in person. Though we remain a long way from the start of the 2022 season, it sounds like Carr has the backing of his new head coach and Dave Ziegler, the Raiders' newly-hired general manager. This lines up with similar reports that leaked before McDaniels was hired. Carr has one year left on his contract and is undoubtedly eying an extension after making the playoffs. A good relationship with the new faces in Las Vegas is a good start to his pursuit of a massive payday.

When you put something up for sale and immediately get a ton of interest, you're probably not valuing that thing correctly.

 
Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that any extension for Raiders QB Derek Carr "would likely be in the $40m per season range."

"The sense is that no proposals have been exchanged yet on an extension," Bonsignore also says. When you factor in the salary cap going up, Carr is essentially asking for a Kirk Cousins deal. It's hard to say that he doesn't deserve it. The Raiders braintrust of Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler reportedly love Carr, so this should be something that gets done in the next month or so.

New Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said there's "no doubt" Derek Carr will be the team's 2022 starter at quarterback. 

The Raiders had been giving every indication they felt this way, but McDaniels is officially just coming out and saying it. Better than Andy Dalton but still not a true franchise cornerstone type player, Carr presents something of a conundrum for coaches, though he is definitely a good fit for the kind of high-efficiency, paper-cut offense McDaniels was a part of in New England. Carr took a step forward under Jon Gruden and could have further to go under McDaniels. The next order of business is sorting out Carr's deal, as he isn't going to head into the final year of his contract without an adjustment. Carr could be cut with zero cap hit, but that is clearly not going to happen.
