QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (4 Viewers)

It's that potential that just might drive DOWN the price.  That's the point.

It's a real possibility.  This is a rather unique situation.
Well he’s under contract so I suppose the Texans could call his bluff as well and say “come to OTAs and training camp” and he’s also said he doesn’t want to play in Houston.

He doesnt want to play there, but he has never just not shown up
Yes - but if he’s uncooperative in the trade process and they’re forced to keep him, he may as well earn his money and play for them. He wants out. He’s said so. Both parties have to work together to make that happen.

Agree, but it would also improve his situation if the team trading for him doesnt gut their roster.  He has some leverage there should he choose to use it

There's also going to be a suspension discount and a potential future prison sentence discount.

A team trading their 2023 1st is probably going to be a bit of a bugaboo considering a suspension this year almost kills their playoff chances

If there were 3 shots to be called, Watson is calling 2 of them
I'm not sure what that means but you seem to driving the bus that Texans are leveraged by Watson are not going to get as big a haul as anticipated and I don't believe that is going to be how this goes down.

I keep highlighting this because while Carolina and the Saints might be favorites to land him  I don't think this is a two team race.

@AaronWilson_NFL

Deshaun Watson has completed his meetings with New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers, according to league sources. Teams send their top people, including Saints' Mickey Loomis, Dennis Allen, Panthers' David Tepper, Matt Rhule. More teams to follow.@PFN365

He just got accused by 22 women and did not even get a misdeamanor charge so yes I think prison is one heck of a reach.
I dont mean for these incidents.

Anyway, if you dont see the concern moving forward here, so be it.  Its alarming behavior, even if you look at just strictly facts.

That said, F it, c'mon Browns!!!!

Watson really wants to get out of this dumpster fire of a franchise so I think the whole trade veto thing won't be much of an issue.  Pretty much any situation is better than his current.

Cleveland has a pretty good shot.

they can include Baker

The Steelers are 3-1 against Jackson in the last 4 games, so it seems like they're figuring him out, but he's still considered a top 10 QB, so that would mean two top 5 QBs and a top 10 QB in 1 division. Pretty tough.

I'd love to know who people are keeping out of the top 10 for him because I think he's closer to 15 then that. Way too inconsistent and embarrassing playoff numbers for his career.

He’s a polarizing player. Many of us have seen him pull the team to a comeback win a few times and have that firmly in our minds. One example, The game against Cleveland in 2020 was epic.  And he’s a highlight reel.  But then he hasn’t sustained that level of play. He’ll remain one of my favorite players to watch, he’s probably the most exciting player in the game.

I'm so different to everyone when it comes to this. I guess because I played the position growing up and all. My favorite player was Randal Cunningham growing up but Randall was well before his time and teams are trying to too hard to get that guy again from Vick to Lamar etc. Just not gonna be as successful as it was. it can be successful but teams need to realize this is a short term fix these guys. Vick as an Eagle use to drive me crazy. He wasn't fun for me just more annoying in terms of messing up the basics.

I guess to me guys like that are fun for the kids to watch and keep them entertained but then you become someone like me older learning the ins and outs of the game, QB position etc it just frustrates me more how teams seem to routinely to mess it up. We need better player development in the lower levels. I'm hoping leagues like the XFL and USFL can become successful enough and become those leagues.

@JosinaAnderson

I'm told Deshaun Watson is set to meet with the #Saints and #Panthers in Houston through Monday evening, and* I'm also told Watson is currently* planning to meet with "more" teams tomorrow, at this time, per league source.@AaronWilson_NFL with these details as well.

I've felt all along there are teams that are not putting their bids on social media.

Tepper wants his fan base to know that he is pulling out all the stops to try and get a franchise QB, he's the hardest working owner in the NFL, just ask David Tepper himself, he'll tell you.

-It will not shock me if somehow some way Watson finds his way to Miami. I don't care what Grier says, if he was smart he wouldn't discuss it in press conferences even if he did want Watson behind the scenes.

Browns meeting with Watson on Tuesday.

“Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson reports the Browns will meet with Deshaun Watson in Houston on Tuesday.

Watson had supposedly "rejected" every team but the Saints and Panthers, but it would make sense for Watson to hear out every interested party after he spent 2021 serving a de facto — and highly paid — suspension. Wilson does report that the Saints and Panthers have both made formal trade offers. It is looking increasingly likely that Watson will find a new home this week. “

They would eat the 30M to get the draft picks they want. It’s not like they are competing this year anyways. But it won’t matter, because they’ll get a fair offer.
Exactly.  The team and new GM are trying to maximize future success.  They know after all their f***ups, this trade allows them to hit the reset button.  I see them letting him sit before taking a discounted package, and I def don't see someone from the Patriots system starting off their regime by getting strongarmed by a player.

The owner is going to spend salary on players no matter what.  Whether he uses that $$ on him to sit or someone else, the team will still suck unless they get a haul via trade.  Watson is the one wasting his prime by sitting, and that's all the leverage the team needs.  He wants to play football and the best way to put all of this behind him is to ball out.

Lastly, I'm sure the basic framework of a trade to the teams the Texans are allowing him to meet with has been worked out, and the Texans would be satisfied with the return.

i'm starting to lick my chops...

if watson wants a SB, there's only ONE qb "needy" team he should be going to. deep breaths....

Why do people keep mentioning the Colts? 0% chance they get Watson. Texans aren't gonna trade him to a team they play twice a year, and the Colts don't have a 1st rounder this year, so unless they are offering at least 2 of Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman, Quenton Nelson, or Darius Leonard, they aren't even on the radar.

Saints make the most sense to me right now.

What's the likelyhood of a 2022 season suspension by the league?
As soon as the trade is announced, Goodell drops the gavel like Thor's Hammer with a 1 year suspension and a re-evaluation in 2023 as Team X ships 3 1st round picks, 2 star players and a partridge in a pear tree over to Houston.

I don't really believe that but I do think a hefty suspension is looming.

cleveland would be nearly worst case IMO. just because of weather and field conditions.... would be brutal watching a 10-7 game in 30 mph wind week 16.

Define hefty. While certainly not a good look for the league, has Watson been charged with a crime? Even a misdemeanor? What’s the longest suspension (not drug related) for someone not even charged with anything? Six games? Less?

As for Watson ending up in Miami, they have salary cap commitments to Tua and Teddy for $25M. They’d have to take on Watson’s $40M cap hit for this year. Do you really think MIA will take a $65M cap charge at QB while also kicking in a huge package of picks and players? That seems . . . unlikely.

It makes sense Houston would like to ship him to an NFC team which is why we've seen the Seattle rejection and now the Saints are thought to be in the strong running for Watson. Carolina is another team in the NFC, there's a pattern here.

How is Houston ever supposed to compete in the AFC losing the one guy that can equalize the playing field?

The Houston Texans will be irrelevant for 5-10 years with no franchise QB in sight.

In fact, only two players have been suspended without filed criminal charges.  Zeke (6 games) and Big Ben (6 games).  Both suspended under the personal conduct policy.

I only mention the colts in reference to QB needy teams otherwise being contenders.  As unlikely as it may be.

Saints make sense and have been a primary consideration

Let's unwrap this. The Texans WITH Watson won 4 games. The Texans WITHOUT Watson won 4 games. It doesn't sound like they are close to being a contender.

I don't see why the Texans couldn't get a similar (if not better) package than SEA got for Wilson. In their last 3 seasons played, Watson averaged 303.1 yards (pashing and rushing) and 2.13 TD (pashing and rushing) per game. Wilson averaged 271.2 yards (passing and rushing) and 2.24 TD (passing and rushing) per game. Watson is 7 years younger than Wilson.

The way Houston gets back to being a contender is through a rebuild with the package of picks and players they will get back from whichever team that trades for him. The Seahawks got back two 1's, two 2's, a 5, and 3 players for RW and a 4.

There are enough teams interested in Watson that I project he nets MORE than what DEN gave up for Russ . . . even with his off-field issues (and what will probably end up as a 4-6 game suspension). IMO, Watson' on-field performance has been on par with Wilson's (DW 104.7 passer rating vs. 104.1 for RW over their past three seasons). And as already mentioned, Watson is 7 years younger.

Feel free to disagree, but that is the road map for Houston becoming respectable again.
