I mean, the Original Sin was making Watson the face of their franchise. Everything else just kind of flows from that. So no, I didn't really believe they were going to talk to the women.
That said, I did find the Browns' statement insulting to my intelligence. Don't tell me you conducted an exhaustive background investigation when we all know you were never going to. Don't contort yourself into euphemisms to avoid stating that your new franchise QB has been accused by 22 women of sexual misconduct.
Then again, I'm not sure what they could have said that would have been any better. Can I really say I would have preferred if Haslam had been totally transparent? "I would rather my QB not have been accused of exposing himself to every masseuse in the Greater Houston area. But he's such a good football player, we're willing to take the PR hit."
Like I said, Original Sin.
