QB Jacoby Brissett, NEP - We think... (3 Viewers)

Browns signed QB Jacoby Brissett to a one-year contract.

The Browns just sent Case Keenum to Buffalo in exchange for a seventh-round pick. With a suspension for Deshaun Watson still possible, they obviously had to add a backup with experience as a starter. Brissett brings plenty of that as he has 37 career starts, five of which came in 2021. He won two games while filling in for Tua Tagovailoa. Brissett was shaky as a starter, throwing five touchdowns and four intercpetions. He also punched in one score as a rusher. While not a premier backup, Brissett gives the team some stability behind Watson and will cost less than Keenum, who was one of the league's highest-paid backups.

Jacoby is the consummate team player. If only his skillset matched his attitude, he'd be an elite QB. I think he'll perform a bit better with the Browns, mainly because their ground game is strong and will take some pressure off of him.

Backup qb is still baker's job to lose imo

Not following the news are we ?  Baker will never play another down for the Browns.

Ranking Jacoby Brissett among AFC quarterbacks

Brissett is nowhere near as good as the elite in the AFC. For the sake of the writer, the elite are the following, in no particular order:

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Josh Allen
  • Russell Wilson
  • Joe Burrow
  • Deshaun Watson
...sixth or seventh best quarterback in their conference. Brissett is still behind this group of almost elite QBs:

  • Justin Herbert
  • Lamar Jackson
  • Derek Carr
Brissett also falls behind a group of very good quarterbacks who have proven what they can do:

  • Matt Ryan
  • Ryan Tannehill
... a bunch of young guys some of who are probably as good or better than Brissett early in their career:

  • Mac Jones
  • Trevor Lawrence
Brissett falls with a majority of these quarterbacks... :

  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Davis Mills
  • Tua Tagovailoa
  • Teddy Bridgewater
  • Chad Henne (getting this spot only because of what he did against the Browns in the playoffs two years ago)
... starters and backups that Brissett is better than at this point in their respective careers. The young guys have a chance to improve and be better than Brissett but haven’t shown it yet:

  • Zach Wilson
  • Mitch Trubisky
  • Kenny Pickett
  • Malik Willis
  • Nick Foles
  • Case Keenum
  • Joe Flacco
  • Tyler Huntley
  • Brian Hoyer
  • Chase Daniel
  • Mason Rudolph
  • Brandon Allen
  • Josh Johnson
  • C.J. Beathard
  • Kyle Allen

The Brwons' season has been kissed good bye UNLESS they go out and sign someone or bring someone else in and rest Watson for next year.

How do you send out Watson if the team is already 4-7 or worse?

Brissett was brutal last year. Tua playing hurt was still much better. These guys should not be listed together.

Jacoby Brissett completed 21-of-31 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' 29-17, Week 3 win over the Steelers, adding three carries for 11 additional yards.

Brissett continued to play smooth, game-managing football under Kevin Stefanski. The Browns coach has Brissett playing far more efficiently than he did under Brian Flores in Miami. That is thanks in part to Brissett heating up his connection with Amari Cooper, whom he has found for over 100 yards in back-to-back games. Previously, no quarterback had done that since 2016. Brissett is looking better than expected as Deshaun Watson's placeholder, but big plays remain few and far between. He will never be a priority streamer, including Week 4 against the Falcons.

Jacoby Brissett is such a pro. He has passion without the ego. He’s quiet, but he’s a leader. He’s likable and so damn easy to root for. I’m glad he’s a Cleveland Brown.

NFL Week 3 Game Recap: Cleveland Browns 29, Pittsburgh Steelers 17
...Offensive spotlight: If Brissett's 90.0-plus passing grade on first review holds, it will represent the Browns quarterback's highest single-game passing grade of Brissett's career. Not only did Brissett finish with two big-time throws, but he dealt with three dropped passes, avoided turnover-worthy plays and finished with an 82.8% adjusted completion rate. Ultimately, Brissett finished 21-of-31 for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Brissett was solid last night. Great play calls and scheme as well.
He’s always been a solid QB. He’s a perfect backup - he can’t carry a team but with the running game and defense in CLE he doesn’t need to. With that said, they’ve played 3 bad teams so far and at some point he may hold them back a bit.

A solid run game, 171 yards at 4.5 ypc helps alot. As long as that continues, Brissett could be decent. In Miami, without a solid run game, he was mediocre. He was slow to throw and inaccurate on many short passes. However, his long ball accuracy was not bad.

Jacoby Brissett completed 21-of-35 passes for 234 scoreless yards and one interception in the Browns' 23-20, Week 4 loss to the Falcons running for 16 yards and a touchdown on 5 carries.

He was able to somewhat save his box score with his legs, but Brissett did toss the game-sealing interception on the final play of the game for Cleveland's offense. Brissett and Amari Cooper couldn't keep their strong connection going in this one, hooking up just one time for nine yards. Brissett has the Browns treading water one month into the season at 2-2, but he won't be a recommended fantasy play next week against the Chargers.

Brissett was brutal today! Watched the game and he was really bad, against an Atlanta D that is less than good.

The play calling stunk today also. This loss is 100% on the coach

Before the last couple plays? Don't agree. He's a good backup and he performed like a good backup. He can't take that sack on 2nd down then compound the error on 3rd by forcing it into coverage rather than checking it down and giving the kicker a shot at a bomb.

Jacoby Brissett completed 21-of-45 passes for 266 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Browns' 38-15, Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Brissett was aggressive with his downfield looks this game, trying to find David Njoku and Donovan Peoples-Jones on multiple deep shots. Though a few of the attempts connected, padding his stats with some extra yardage, Brissett was rarely on the mark in this game. Because Cleveland's defense couldn't contain Bailey Zappe and company, the Browns had no choice but to let Brissett keep throwing. His 45 attempts in this game were 10 more than his season-high heading into Week 6. Expect the Browns to get back to running the football in their Week 7 tilt with the Ravens. Brissett will be a QB2 for the divisional matchup.

Jacoby Brissett completed 22-of-27 pass attempts for 258 yards in the Browns' 23-20 Week 7 loss to the Ravens.

Brissett started the game strong, hitting his pass catchers in the middle of the field for chunk gains. As the Browns fell behind, Brissett began forcing the ball into tight coverage, and was pressured on seemingly every drop back. He absorbed five sacks on the day. Brissett connected with Amari Cooper on a gorgeous 55-yard gain down the sideline. He later had a long touchdown toss to Cooper called back on an offensive pass interference call. The loss of David Njoku (ankle) is a tough break for Brissett and the Browns passing offense. He'll be little more than a superflex option in Week 8 against the Bengals. Brissett ranks 24th in completion rate over expected since Week 4.

Total respect for Brissett. He's a gamer. Browns could've done a lot worse with a placeholder/backup QB.
Honestly, Brissett played well enough that I think he could land a starting job somewhere else next year. At the very least as a bridge QB or insurance behind an unproven starter.

The Browns should have Brissett take the first snap of the game and then have Watson come in the rest of the game, just as a show of respect for how he has handled the team under difficult circumstances.

Brissett should be someone’s QB1 next season.

ESPN's Diana Russini reports the Buccaneers "have shown interest" in Jacoby Brissett.

Brissett becomes the latest quarterback to be rumored as a potential landing spot for the Buccaneers after it was reported earlier that they are expected to pursue Baker Mayfield. Brissett filled in admirably for the Browns through the first 11 games of the season, throwing for 2608-12-6 while leading the team to a 4-7 record. Brissett, 30, isn't exactly a long-term answer for the Buccaneers at quarterback, but he could serve as a bridge for a rookie should the team opt to draft a quarterback next month.

@Ministry of Pain - I’m requesting a thread title update on this one.

Commanders signed QB Jacoby Brissett, formerly of the Browns.

Brissett was brought into Cleveland to be the team's bridge until Deshaun Watson had completed his suspension. Brissett was more than a bridge and put together solid numbers in a few advanced metrics. He ranked third in completion percent over expected and 10th in EPA per play. Brissett threw for 2,608 yards and 12 scores in eight starts. The Commanders are set on seeing what they have in Sam Howell and Brissett gives them a solid floor if Howell struggled in his second season. The move also seemingly rules them out of the quarterback conversation in the draft.

1 year deal, I assume to backup and push Howell. Would be disappointing if Howell isn't the guy...but good to have a quality backup if he goes down to injury.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said Jacoby Brissett and Sam Howell are competing for the Week 1 starting job.

Rivera said during a Tuesday press conference that the team will discuss giving Brissett first-team reps this offseason. It's a bit of a turnabout after multiple reports over the past couple months seemed to confirm Washington was committed to Howell as the opening day starter. Howell, 22, started one game last year and completed 11 of 19 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Brissett, meanwhile, is coming off a quietly strong 2022 campaign as the Browns starter. Only Patrick Mahomes and Geno smith had a higher completion rate over expected than Brissett, who was eighth in adjusted EPA per drop back last year. The likeliest outcome is for Washington to play both quarterbacks at some point in 2023.

Commanders HC Ron Rivera said, “Don’t sleep on Jacoby [Brissett]” when asked about the team’s quarterback competition.
Throughout much of the offseason, Sam Howell has been viewed as the Commanders’ Week 1 starter, but Rivera seems to be leaving the door open for Brissett to win the job. In his 11 starts with the Browns, Brissett had the team averaging 23.9 points per game and ranked 10th in EPA per dropback. His 1.6 percent interception rate was good for ninth-best among qualified quarterbacks. Brissett won’t blow defenses away with his arm, but he’s proven to be a good decision-maker with the football and has a chance to play with a talented group of receivers in Washington. Even if he doesn’t start Week 1, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Brissett start a few games this season.

Howell might be the anti-Bryce Young in terms of ability to process reads and learn plays. If it takes him longer to catch up then I could see Brissett getting the nod over him. Rivera definitely is going to prefer stability and a nice floor to potentially preserve his job.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports the Commanders are seeking a Day 2 pick in exchange for QB Jacoby Brissett.
This feels a bit lofty, especially when you consider the Cardinals just traded Joshua Dobbs, a quarterback who has started eight games this season, to the Vikings in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Brissett was solid in 11 games for the Browns last season, throwing for 2,608 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions while leading the offense to 23.6 points per game. According to Breer, the Commanders have fielded calls for Brissett but the asking price has been too high. It’s possible the trade of Dobbs offers more clarity on Brissett’s value in the closing hours of the deadline, but we’ll see what happens throughout the day.

Washington Commanders
QB Jacoby Brissett will start on Sunday

Scott Barrett
Jacoby Brissett has played 5 full drives with the Commanders. All 5 drives ended in a touchdown.

He's averaging 4.15 fantasy points per drive. Washington is averaging 11.9 drives per game. This extrapolates to ~49.4 fantasy points per game.

$4,900 on DraftKings this week.
