Lions coach Dan Campbell said Jared Goff has impressed at OTAs.
"We're only a week into it — I can tell you this, he throws a pretty ball, that's for sure," Campbell said. "I like his command in the huddle. And I would say, he's progressing kind of right where you want at this point." The Rams mortgaged future picks to move on from Goff this offseason, but there were rumors Goff is the one who wanted out, and the Lions hope a scenery change can reclaim his status as a franchise quarterback. Goff's supporting cast behind T.J. Hockenson — Breshad Perriman and Tyrell Williams are expected to start at receiver — will be working against him in his first season with Detroit.

Jared Goff looked efficient and decisive to end Lions minicamp.
Two-minute drill (seven-on-seven)
The Lions ran a two-minute drill for the first time this offseason (at least in front of media). Here was the scenario: own 25-yard line, 1:48 left, 2 timeouts, down 24-20.
The first-team offense scored with relative ease. Here’s the breakdown of the plays:
- First-and-10: Quick out to Hockenson, broken up by Dean Marlowe.
- Second-and-10: Amani Oruwariye deflects a pass, but Tyrell Williams catches it anyways for 15 yards (inbounds).
- First-and-10: Hockenson picks up and easy 20 yards.
- First-and-10: Goff finds D’Andre Swift, who beats Jahlani Tavai by a step or two on a crosser. He picks up about 10 yards, but is “tackled” inbounds. Timeout.
- First-and-10: Goff finds Hockenson for a toe-tapping out route for 12 yards.
- First-and-goal: Fade to Breshad Perriman. Incomplete (not close).
- Second-and-goal: Pass thrown away after one receiver falls down, and Jahlani Tavai is all over Swift’s angle route.
- Third-and-goal: Hockenson beats Alex Anzalone for a fairly easy touchdown.
I bet the Packers wish they had Goff
He should continue to get plenty of garbage time stats and would make for a decent QB2 in two QB leagues.Goff with a bad defense could be a real fantasy performer. That was his life at Cal. He can sling it.
Jared Goff completed 26-of-36 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Lions' 35-17, Week 2 loss to the Packers.
It was a tale of two halves for Goff, as the Lions took a 17-14 lead to the locker room after 30 minutes of action. Goff hit Quintez Cephus on a 46-yard bomb on the opening drive before capping it off with his big wideout for a five-yard touchdown a couple plays later. Goff then found T.J. Hockenson on a beautiful eight-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Goff was on fire in the opening half but then fumbled the ball twice in the second half and tossed a horrendous pick late in the fourth quarter. It's the Goff we saw way too much of in L.A. that frustrated Sean McVay. Goff has five touchdowns through two games but has two picks and a couple fumbles. He won't be a recommended fantasy play Week 3 against the Ravens.

if we’re keeping score, Goff outscored Stafford this week
again
He's gonna be decent for fantasy purposes. Currently QB6 in my league.if we’re keeping score, Goff outscored Stafford this week
again
stylistically they’re different players but for fantasy purposes he reminds me of plugging in Cousins back when he was in Washington (last 3 years when he was perpetually trying to get paid.)He's gonna be decent for fantasy purposes. Currently QB6 in my league.
Jared Goff completed 22-of-30 passes for 217 yards in the Lions' Week 3 loss to the Ravens, adding one rush for four yards.
Goff was sacked twice and faced endless pressure against a suffocating Baltimore front seven. In a game full of neutral game script, Goff reverted to game manager mode after two weeks of frantic pass-heavy game script. He targeted Kalif Raymond a team-high ten times with Tyrell Williams (concussion, IR) sidelined. Last week's top Goff target, Quintez Cephus, saw one look against Baltimore. Goff is a desperation Week 4 superflex option against the Bears.
.Jared Goff completed 24-of-38 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions' Week 4 loss to the Bears, adding three rushes for eight yards.
Goff struggled to consistently move the offense on Sunday. He hit some big plays, connecting with each of Quintez Cephus, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kalif Raymond and T.J. Hockenson for 20+ yards passes. Goff also showed an ability to buy time in the pocket at times.Goff fumbled three times however, losing two. Although, one of lost fumble charged to Goff was an unexpected snap that bounced off his leg, and may not have been his fault. Goff faces the Vikings in Week 5, in a game that could force the Lions to go pass heavy once again
Jared Goff completed 28-of-42 attempts for 202 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in the Lions' 34-11, Week 6 loss to the Bengals.
Goff was out of sorts against the Bengals. The play that best summed up his day was Goff throwing the ball away on a 4th-and-4, down 7-0 in the 1st half. Goff probably saw the flag on the play for offensive holding, and knew any completion would come back, by throwing the ball away Goff allowed the Bengals to decline the penalty and take over on downs. The Lions never led in this game and never really even pushed the Bengals at any point. Goff will need to excel in garbage time to put up a QB2 performance against the Rams in Week 7.

Jared Goff played through an oblique injury in the Lions' Week 10 tie with the Steelers.
Goff suffered the injury in the first quarter then played through it for the final three-plus periods. Goff, of course, had a mesmerizingly bad game, generating 114 yards on 25 attempts. "I don’t want to sit up here and say I was hurt and whatever and make excuses," Goff said. "It was bothering me, but I felt like I could compete and throw fine, and I felt like I did. I don’t feel like it was a hindrance at any point." Coach Dan Campbell thought Goff was healthy enough to stay in. "We all felt like he was good. He was good enough to go," Campbell said. Perhaps Campbell will change his mind for Week 11 after watching the film, but no one thinks David Blough is a better option, regardless of how poorly Goff has played. The question will simply become if the Lions decide to make a psychic break and start preparing for their post-Goff future even if he is technically their best option for the final eight games of 2021-22.

It may be the best thing that happens to Detroit, throw the backup in and evaluate. How do you go 58 minutes in a game before their first passing 1st Down? Not finding Hockenson is inexcusable, Goff isn't giving them the best chance of winning.
They are stuck with Goff for another year, but yes let's see the backup and whether they want to keep him into next year. Nothing to lose is putting it mildly. It may be the best thing that happens to Detroit, throw the backup in and evaluate. How do you go 58 minutes in a game before their first passing 1st Down? My bad, I thought they could let him go FA after this year. They are stuck with Goff for another year, but yes let's see the backup and whether they want to keep him into next year. Nothing to lose is putting it mildly.
Severe dead cap hit right now but hoping they can get lucky with the late first rounder they got from Rams. Not seeing any college QB worth a top 3 pick.My bad, I thought they could let him go FA after this year.
A stud OL and DL are much needed. They need a WR bad, but Goff checks down too much. I would like to see how they use Reynolds in this offense.Severe dead cap hit right now but hoping they can get lucky with the late first rounder they got from Rams. Not seeing any college QB worth a top 3 pick.

Jared Goff (oblique) is doubtful for Week 11 against the Browns.
Tim Boyle is in line to start for the Lions with Goff unable very unlikely to play through his oblique injury against the Browns. Goff's accuracy took a big hit against the Steelers, and Boyle is likely to be an upgrade over the injured version of Goff. That said, Boyle has four career passing attempts, so it's impossible to know how good or, more likely, bad he could be in Week 11. T.J. Hockenson and D'Andre Swift are both riskier bets than usual.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it is "considered unlikely" that Jared Goff (oblique) is able to play in Week 12 against the Bears.
Goff is officially listed as doubtful for Week 11 but Schefter has already reported him as out. With the Lions playing on Thanksgiving next week, the short turnaround is doing Goff no favors. He'll likely be out until Week 13 but Schefter noted that the belief around the league is that Detroit's quarterback situation in this season and beyond is in flux. Boyle, who threw 12 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in college, seems like a longshot to change Detroit's long-term plans at quarterback. He could steal the job from Goff but his lackluster pedigree makes even that feel suspect. Boyle's presence makes the Browns defense and Nick Chubb the most appealing pieces of the Cleveland/Detroit affair.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said it is "leaning toward" Jared Goff (oblique) starting in Week 12 against the Bears.
“60 percent, leaning toward 50-50,” Campbell added on Goff's status. You would be leaning toward Goff starting too if you saw Tim Boyle play football. With Andy Dalton already named starter on the other side for Chicago, the first kick-off of Thanksgiving is shaping up to be one to nap through. Goff isn't on the radar as a streamer if active.

Jared Goff (oblique) remained limited for Tuesday's practice.
Coach Dan Campbell said Goff is “60 percent, leaning toward 50-50" to start on Thursday, suggesting the latter will be under center in place of Tim Boyle at kick-off. Throwing 25 passes for 114 yards in 75 minutes in his last start, Goff isn't on the radar even if he is active on Thursday.

Speaking Tuesday, Lions QB Jared Goff (oblique) said he would consider himself a "gameday decision" for Week 12 against the Bears on Thursday.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said things are "leaning toward" Goff starting on Thursday, but the quarterback himself seemed a little bit less certain when asked on Tuesday. Goff did go on to clarify that he is feeling "really good." His status will be worth monitoring leading up to kickoff on Thanksgiving morning. If he can't go, Tim Boyle would get the nod for the second consecutive game. With that being said, Campbell's earlier comments likely indicate Goff likely has a better chance than not of playing against the Bears.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions are planning to start Jared Goff (oblique) in Week 12 against the Bears Thursday.
Goff is officially listed questionable, but he's going to be under center. Even at less than 100%, Goff gives the Lions a better chance at competing for the Turkey Day win. Tim Boyle simply doesn't belong in the NFL after his disastrous Week 11 fill-in start.

Jared Goff (oblique) is active for Week 12 against the Bears.
The Lions declared Trinity Benson, David Blough, Trey Flowers, Matt Nelson, and Halapoulivaati Vaitai inactive for Week 12. D'Andre Swift and T.J. Hockensen drafters should celebrate with an extra side of cranberry sauce, as Goff represents a massive upgrade over Tim Boyle. Goff is only startable in the deepest superflex formats.
