QB Jayden Daniels, WAS (5 Viewers)

#Commanders HC Dan Quinn response to @JPFinlayNBCS about Jayden Daniels' progress since rookie camp

"This is a guy that really puts it in.... that goes a long way to any other player on the team... it takes extra at that position and he's definitely down for that"

Biggest thing for Jayden Daniels - “learn how to be a pro.” Says he gets to the facility around 545, likes to walk thru in the bubble and watch film early. Still learning playbook and trying to grasp it all. Says Luke McCaffrey usually with him.

I'll be curious to see if Daniels checks it down instead of taking off in the pros. He didn't really do that ever in college, but Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler were #1 and #2 in yards after catch per reception last year, and Kingsbury offenses have been more horizontal than vertical.

You're right. Although, they tried (like a couple of other teams) to trade up to 3 for Maye. I'm certainly no expert. But, "uh, throw a touchdown" is maybe the worst job interview answer ever. That's a snippet and might have been taken out of context. And yes, I'm biased. I think JD is one of the clearest busts ever. But yikes. Even if I loved him. Yikes. None of us should be judged by the dumbest thing we've ever said. But that was a very dumb thing to say.

Edit: it was especially dumb in context. Everyone with eyes knows that the offense at LSU was take one read and if it isn't there then run. He's good at that. That has exactly zero chance of working in the NFL. If his agent didn't prepare him for tough or trick questions about reading defenses, he should fire his agent. Maybe he can produce a Justin Fields like career, but probably not.

You’re hanging a lot around this kids’ neck from one comment.

I found the take of the guy writing the article to be odd as well. He thought it was inappropriate to air this awkward situation. This is an entertainment business where everything you do will be scrutinized and publicized. It's part of what this guy is signing up for. It is totally appropriate for this kind of thing to be aired publicly and if the player can't handle it he isn't going to be handle playing the game at the highest level. Seems like an odd take from a guy that makes his living off this exact type of situation.

No doubt. And it's confirmation bias. And it's reality TV editing. He could have launched into a brilliant answer that got cut because the producers knew this would drive social media engagement. I fully acknowledge all of that. But it confirms what I already thought, so I choose to believe it without question.

Commanders fans,

This is your rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels during today's first training camp practice.

It might be the best 73 seconds of your day.
Yeah I know its training camp...yeah I know its the first day...but how can we NOT be excited. He just looks so confident, smooth, and the throws seem to go exactly where they need to go. I can't wait to see how his vs Caleb's career goes moving forward.

Daniel Jones sucks so bad. I'm surprised he's still in the NFL. He throws it worse than Tebow.

Have high hopes for Jayden. There's no way you sit him unless he's not even close. Mariota is bleh. Gotta know within 24 game if Jayden is the guy.

ETA ... Luke McCaffrey in that X video looks like he missed a month's worth of meals. Eat a sandwich Luke.

The giant bobble-head helmet subtracts 20 lbs.

“During practice Friday, Daniels connected with receiver Terry McLaurin on another back-shoulder throw in which McLaurin made a one-handed grab. The two have started to develop a good rhythm; Daniels has also connected often with tight end Zach Ertz. With two joint practice sessions as well as two preseason games in the next two weeks Washington will get a stronger feel for where Daniels is in his growth. But there has been no reason to doubt that, so far, the Commanders like where he's headed”

Dan Quinn on Jayden Daniels in training camp: "I had high expectations coming in but he has surpassed those"

Ben Standig
Quinn says Jayden Daniels is QB1 on the Commanders' first unofficial depth chart and will start Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.

Brandon Coleman also the LT in unofficial depth chart.

John Keim
Quinn said Jayden Daniels has "surpassed my expectations of the readiness, of the command" of the position. Said he's not surprised Daniels knows the system given how he works. Said teammates gravitate toward him.

@32BeatWriters “Dan Quinn said on Sunday, ‘It’s the decision-making that maybe I’ve been really impressed by…not just the throwing, but playing the position…So there is your skill work, and then the processing work and the processing part for him has been excellent.’”

I took J.Goff off my board when Hard Knocks revealed he didn't know which way the sun rises and sets.

I remember watching that too.

But the realty Goff proved is you don't have to know that to be a really good NFL QB. And to the point of the bias thread, use that info to generate unfair negative bias. ;)

For what it's worth, I don't see any player getting as much fawning love as Daniels right now. It seems he's everyone's darling.

Really tempted to take Daniels as my QB in auction. He should get nominated after everyone already has a starter, and our league awards 0.2 points for rush yards making running QBs very valuable. So even if he's a mediocre passer, he should be a safe pick. Daniel Jones was QB6 in our league a couple years ago because of the rushing yard scoring. I could get a high upside starter for the price of a backup.

Only problem is 2 teams in the league are Washington fans.

Liked what I saw today, the entire offense

@barackdhouse your RB-BRob looked really good running the football, Ekeler looked more like the 3rd down RB to me
Just keeping it real from what I watched
Daniels elevates the whole offense

Starting to wonder if a smart QB strategy is to grab Daniels late and then a more traditional dropback QB (i.e. Cousins, Stafford, Goff) even later.

Maybe start out with the traditional guy for a few weeks and Daniels get early rookie bumps in the road out of the way.

Shhhhhh …. That IS the way. Just don’t tell anyone.

A Jayden/Goff QB plan is pretty hot. You get the best of both worlds. Goff will never loose you a week - and Jayden (if he hits) can win you many. The cost v reward is incredible when going that route.

Bo Nix showed off some running as well, he is viable. JJ McCarthy as well. Really all of these rookie QBs have some rushing upside. Pair them with Goff, Stafford, Cousins, Lawrence , Tua, Rodgers, Watson and you have an interesting combo of floor and upside. Though I could almost just say take 2 of the guys from the 2nd group. They all have a safe floor but also probably a top 8 QB ceiling.

If you believe he can make some noise as a rookie, I have to think McLaurin and Dotson are underrated. There's no other target monsters there.
Terry does pair well with what Jayden likes to do - go deep. Heard an interesting stat the other day, not exactly sure what is was but something about, of all of Terry’s 25 career TD’s, only 8-10 of them came within the redzone.

Terry's TDs by distance.

75, 69, 68, 52, 49, 40, 37, 33, 33, 30, 29, 26, 25, 24, 19, 17, 16, 15, 13, 12, 11, 5, 3, 3, 1

11 inside the 20

Seems like he has plenty of long ones too. I am not understanding why McLaurin's skill set doesn't mesh with Daniels.
