QB Joe Flacco, CIN (1 Viewer)

Is this really gonna help? Seriously? He lost his job in Cleveland…maybe he’s better than Browning but will he help the fate of the Cincy offense? I want to hope so but don’t see it.

He's brought bad offensives to life a couple of times the past few years

He's won a super bowl, he's better than Browning. He may be too old and the line too much of a mess to make a difference but he's a chance worth taking

Definitely a boost for Bengals weapons IMO. Flacco hasn’t been great to start the season, but Jake Browning has been an abomination.

That being said, it might be worth testing the market to see if you could sell your Bengals high off this news.

Flacco is 2nd to last in EPA/Play (to only Browning) and has been pretty bottom of the barrel in all efficiency and accuracy metrics.

More importantly, the perceived “Flacco” effect that massively bolstered the Browns weapons back in 2023 has not been the case over the past 2 years. He’s down to an 8.8% deep throw rate (14.2% in 2023) and a 6.6 aDOT (9.6 in 2023).

And at 40 years old, with lacking mobility, things could get ugly with this offensive line that is dead last in ESPN’s pass block win rate.

PFSN
Of the 37 qualified NFL QBs, 6 currently have an F grade in PFSN’s QB Impact metric…

The Bengals now have two of them, Joe Flacco and Jake Browning. 🥴

Can Flacco do anything behind this Cincy OL? WR weapons are way improved over Cle, but that line... Oof... It killed Burrow and spooked Browning - are we looking now at Joe's turn for pain??

Already starting so the impression Joe makes in 24 hours is monumental. Ha ha

Zac Taylor: "So, let's take a look at the ol' curriculum vitae, as it were, hmm?"

<reads>

ZT: "I see here for the past 40 years or so you have not, indeed, been Jake Browning, is that right?"

Joe Flacco <windmilling right arm while chewing a bite of, like, a deep fried Snickers on a stick>: "Huh? Umm...yeah. Yeah, that's right." <takes last bite of the Snickers> "Did you get a look at any of my tape?"

ZT: "Nah. I think I've seen all I need to see here. Welcome to the Queen City, Joe. You'll be starting in a few days, cool?"

Joe Flacco completed 29-of-45 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals’ 27-18, Week 6 loss to the Packers.

Flacco was great in his Bengals debut. The journeyman pocket passer aggressively targeted Ja’Marr Chase, regardless of how tight the coverage was, on short and intermediate out routes. The two linked up 10 times for 94 yards and one touchdown, and fantasy managers should expect the successes to continue in the coming weeks. A strong connection between the two is already evident. Flacco can be treated as a QB2 against a far more fantasy-friendly Steelers defense in Week 7.

I really thought this statue of a man was going to be at the bottom of many piles, as many teams ring up sack records.

But damn he gets that ball out fast and makes that O line look just fine. Browning was running like a scared squirrel as soon as the ball reached his hands from center.

Wild contrast. Important lesson.

Also helps to be able to read a defense and see where you can make a quick completion.

Obviously this week it would of paid off, but is he startable for fantasy nerds every week? Has the weapons. Has the bad defense. Everything lines up for a top 10 rest of season performance. Just feels weird. Ha ha

Flacco as the Bengals starter paid off last week too. Against the Packers, Flacco had 219 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, and he had the Bengals in the game until the end. In that game Ja’Marr Chase had 10 receptions for 94 yards and 1 TD.

Flacco has not only made the Bengals viable for fantasy football, but he’s made the Bengals viable in real life.

The Bengals won’t look like they did last night every week, but the massive uptick since Flacco took the reins looks legit and sustainable.

Very true, also helps to be able just to throw the ball in the somewhat direction of Chase too.

Chase and Higgins are big talents that had great games but Noah Fant had a pretty nice game at TE, as well. I thought this experiment would fail. How wrong I was! Good thing, too, as Joe is my replacement for Joe.

Probably match up dependent. Steelers pass D is garbage. But there should be some more good games coming.

A reminder that sacks are a QB stat, not an OL stat.
