QB Josh Allen, BUF (2 Viewers)

Is there new updates I haven't been reading? I thought in the late afternoon that most folks were assuming he would not miss the game vs Vikes
I won't believe it until he is at least listed as Doubtful.
I hope he's OK, I thoroughly enjoy watching this kid play, the league needs QBs like him healthy, no fun watching back up Quarterbacks

They "evaluate" players for concussions, that doesn't always mean they have one.
I'm being optimistic until I hear more definitive info tomorrow.

No definitive updates but it was being downplayed yesterday, especially by Josh, that it was no big deal. A day later, it sounds like it could be a big deal. Hopefully good news will come out tomorrow.

Next Gen Stats
Two plays after the injury...
Josh Allen's incomplete pass intended for Gabe Davis traveled 69.3 yards in the air, the longest pass attempt over the last six seasons.

Likely won’t get news tomorrow. If Allen appears on Kyle Brandts show could be telling. Miller was on injury report last week and did a few various interviews. Normally they skip them if they have treatment.

Wednesday practice I think we need to hope for a limited at best. More I’m reading is another 4-6 weeks. Hoping return 100% 12/1 vs NE. 3 games of Keenum.

Seems like he’s getting a second opinion now and it’ll be quiet for a day or two like it was for Hyde.

Two tweets that links were posted to earlier note the elbow injury.
Josh has had at least one previous ACL injury, but the concern with this injury is 'potential' nerve damage.

#Bills QB Josh Allen, who has a history of UCL sprain in 2018, appeared to suffer another UCL sprain on this play very late in the game. Threw a nice deep ball right after, but was shaking out the elbow/may have been dealing w some nerve stretch symptoms. Injury to watch this wk.

Bills QB Josh Allen is being evaluated for an elbow injury to his ulnar collateral ligament and related nerves, per source. Bills coach Sean McDermott said earlier team hopes to have more info Tuesday.

Josh Allen injury: a positive "Milking Maneuver" which stresses the UCL in the elbow. This is created by pulling the thumb posteriorly with the elbow bent creating a valgus force at the elbow. Positive test is excessive motion or pain. #BillsMafiaBUFBills2022SeasonEmoji.png

That response of excrutiating pain, coming from the toughest QB in the NFL, suggests more than a mild sprain. From a medical perspective, 2-6 weeks is very optimistic, especially because they are evaluating for nerve injury. If they suspect nerve injury, that suggests his elbow suffered instability, and UCL tears with nerve damage risk are Tommy John surgery and a year of PT. Asking him to play with instability would be risking more significant damage to his ulnar nerve, and risk his ability to grip the football in the future. EDIT*** Even if he comes back this year, we've seen what UCL mild sprain has done to Stafford's passing, with an increased number of widely errant throws.***

The question for fantasy is, how does the offense change with Case Keenum at the helm (EDIT***or with injured Allen at the helm)?
Singletary is probably going to see an uptick in usage, particularly in red zone. I'd upgrade to mid range RB2.
Less arm strength means fewer deep shots, so Davis is a downgrade for me, and no longer a viable trade target in redraft. Likewise, we might see an uptick in targets to Knox and one of McKenzie/Shakir.
Diggs is just phenomenal at all levels of the field, but there's a risk of fewer explosives and fewer TDs that might bring him down to the WR1/2 range rather than a top 3 player we're used to. In redraft, the uncertainty will lower his value, but in dynasty, it might be a good move to look like a panicked owner and sell now for up and coming assets. It's not a given that Allen will be healthy enough to start 2023, or that his accuracy or arm strength will return as early as Allen returns to the field.

Praying for at least decent news. First year I dealt my backup QB after my stud QB had their bye. And now it may backfire big time. Plus I just want him on the field. Makes everything more exciting.

We're hosed. YouTube fantasy doctor guy predicting 2-6+ weeks out.

If you watched the replay in slo-motion it looked really bad. Would not be surprised if something was torn in his elbow.
But would he have been able to throw that 70 yard pass if that was the case? Man, I’ve had shoulder and elbow injuries. I couldn’t throw a tennis ball 10 yards
It’s been stated in many places - could have been the adrenaline at the time.

Yikes, seems the longer this waits the worse it is. I'm not a Bills fan but hard not to cheer for Allen and this offense. Really hate this if he is looking at a long term injury.

Maybe it’s like Rookie of the Year where he develops super human rocket arm after injury.

FUNKY BUTTLOVING!!!

They are talking about it now on XM. Hope it’s really good news. I won’t go so far as thinking he’s completely good. But maybe only 1-2 weeks at most. Just wishful praying

Good news from insider podcast with Rappaport:

Bills fans have been refreshing social media websites the past 48 hours hoping for any update on the quarterback’s injury. Rapoport added that it seems like it’s an injury that Allen will be “able to manage.”

“I do not know for sure, 100% sure that he will play this week, but it sounds like a short term injury and it sounds like something the team believes that he will be able to play through,” he said. “It’s not great. It’s not what anybody wants. However it’s possible this could have been way, way worse and we would have been talking about Case Keenum as the starting quarterback now.”

Josh Allen officially Day to Day with his elbow injury “We’ll see” was the quote on Allen’s game status for this week VERY interesting. We’ll certainly be a story to monitor as the week progresses. #BillsMafiaBUFBills2022SeasonEmoji.png

I remember when Alan Trammel had an elbow issue the whole season and Sparky Anderson said he could play though it "Because pain don`t hurt"

I'd give it way less than 50/50 odds he plays this week. They probably don't want the Vikings to game plan as though he won't be behind center.
I am sure I am missing something, but why cant they just say "ya he is good...probable to play" then at gametime "oops, he couldnt go"

What is the penalty for just lying on the injury report?

I say take a week or two to let it fully heal, even if it's mild. Trade a loss or two now for wins that count for a lot more later. This is his throwing arm we are talking about here.
The problem is they already lost to both NY & MIA who are breathing down their neck and facing a 7-1 team this week.

When a player says "We'll see", that's not a good sign. Expect 1-2 weeks. The Bills would be dumb to play him and risk serious injury when they have SB aspirations.

Does it really matter where Buffalo finishes in the playoff seeding? A healthy Allen is far more important. Actually it’s a good team for them to play - I’ll take my chances against a dome team outside in November all day.

The line has dropped 6 points, so there’s the probable answer about his starting.

i think you can get fined, but what is the downside of just making the player questionable? That can now mean pretty much anything from like 25-90%.

It still gets warm in Miami come playoff time

The division is still there even if he misses a couple games. They have both the teams that beat them at home in Dec.

The one seed slips out of reach, but the risk of playing and further injury may not be worth it.

No doubt, but it’s a cold day in hell if Case Keenum is asked to take Buffalo on a playoff run.

Hmmm AFC championship game in KC or home on Buffalo doesn't matter?

Easy with the speculations. The official diagnosis so far is mildly sprained and day to day, providing a decent amount of optimism that this is NOT a season ender.

Does a healthy Mahomes vs an ailing Allen matter?

Look at how ineffective Stafford has been with an injury.
