QB Justin Fields, NYJ (6 Viewers)

Mike Garafolo
From @NFLGameDay Morning: Justin Fields’ debut was “outstanding” in what showed in his stat line and the impact in the running game even when he didn’t have the football in his hands.
Could you imagine if the Jets beat the Bills ??? Would be mayhem. All week long we would hear about how bad the Bears organization was, and how the Steelers made a "mistake" last season

This coming after a whole off-season of everyone in the media saying how Fields can't pass... the media is so wack :ROFLMAO:

Is the Bills' defense that bad? Is Justin Fields that good? The first 3 weeks of the season is so difficult to understand when the teams themselves are figuring who they are.
I mean, give me the Bills today because duh. But yes the Bills defense is that bad (so far). They could absolutely find themselves in some trap games. It's another shootout on paper and whoever gets the ball last might be the winner here. Edge obviously goes to Josh Allen and the Bills though. On paper.

They beat them about this time in 2023 so anything's possible. Allen popped in face ran off field Trubisky under QB

Aaron Glenn on QB Justin Fields’ miserable performance today:

“I’ve got to watch the tape.”

(Spoiler alert: It’s not going to look any better on the tape)

Yeah, I didn't think the entire NY beat contingent was lying and that somehow miraculously Justin Fields had turned from a pumpkin into a princess's chariot.

Watched condensed and it's just like the summer.
You can almost feel the backup take control. Taylor came in and order was restored.

Idk how you teach a QB to be a leader in both good and bad times but if they're committed to Fields then they must.

What hasn't been said to this kid? What can Taylor teach him?

So are the Steelers epicly bad on defense this year? Or was week 1 really like pre season and the defenses don’t show anything but rust in week 1? Week 2 and the bills manhandled these guys

The Steelers are not a good football team. I think we all agree on that. 0.500 team at best.

The Bills are (arguably) the best team in the NFL.

Justin Fields is... consistent in his inconsistency... (my polite way of saying "he stinks").

I’m guessing they’re horrible. Seattle did not look good Week One.

I have even worse news. The Steelers aren’t very good on offense, either. A-Aron’s first game saw him with an aDOT under 5. That’s not a good sign—it points to a fluke.

Rotoworld just posted the blurb that I copied and pasted below. I know that Fields had a great week 1, and inept week 2, and was out with a concussion week 3. The choice of words can be interpreted that Fields might not be the guaranteed starter--and if he is-- he could be on a very short leash. Are there any members in here that follow the Jets closely that can provide feelers or sentiment to what they are hearing?

Jets HC Aaron Glenn said “we’ll talk about that today as a staff” when asked about Justin Fields returning as QB1 after he clears concussion protocol.
Glenn followed up his initial statement by adding, “Justin came in as our starter. He’s been our starter. Tyrod was the backup.” If we’re attempting to read between the lines, one might infer that Glenn referencing both QB’s statuses in the past tense could be a sign a change is coming, but we’ll wait until Glenn offers up a clearer explanation on where things stand ahead of Week 4. Fields still needs to clear concussion protocol if he hopes to play next week against the Dolphins, but Taylor played well enough against the Buccaneers to nearly earn the Jets their first win of the season, and held up well under pressure. Even if Fields does return as the starter, it’s safe to assume he’ll be on a short leash after his Week 2 debacle.

That would make no sense to me. The Jets were only in that game yesterday because their defense kept holding TB to FGs, and they blocked a FG and returned it for a TD. I didn't think Tyrod was any better than Fields. Hell, his UGLY pick six was what got them down 2 scores in the 1st place.

I agree— which is why I found the lack of supportive words for Fields strange. Certainly didnt seem to me like Tyrod played well enough to deservingly steal the job away from Fields with that performance. Makes me wonder if there is something else going on behind the scenes with Fields- attitude problem, not listening to coaches..etc. lets not forget that the Steelers had no issue starting a washed up Wilson over him even though the Steelers started off well with Fields last year.

AG likes to play with the media and admitted he says things a lot for competitive advantage. He wants the next team preparing for both QBs - but im confident Fields is the guy assuming he can come back healthy. Tyrod is who we thought he was - Fields still has upside that needs to be given the entire season - remember hes signed for next year as well - Tyrod is not.

i’m a long time jet homer and i think AG likes to parcells with the media. if healthy, fields is the starter. simple. follow the money. this franchise simply can not afford to have a 37 yr old backup with absolutely zero future start games. BUT, these are the ny jest. fields will get a real long leash since they are hoping maybe he can be the future here. we all know he isn’t, but they are the jest again. hoping against hope. right now, this franchise remains rudderless. different voices, same result. nothing will change until they secure themselves a real GM (maybe mougey is it) and a franchise qb. without a qb there is simply no reason to bother here.

Appreciate the response. Both you and the previous posted seemed to indicate that it was the AG messing with the media. Seems like an odd way to instill confidence in a young qb that has had a history of having issues holding starting jobs. With that said--the Jets are going to do "Jets things". I'm in a superflex league where qb's are nowhere to be found on the waiver wire. I grabbed Tyrod this past week. I'm thinking I may keep him rostered for a week or two longer just to see how things play out. lol

who knows, maybe tyrod gets some games when fields reiterates how awful he is and AG wants to maybe, you know, try to win a game or 2. otherwise, with 1 receiver, this qb position doesn’t have much upside.

I would read nothing into Aaron Glenn’s press conferences on Monday. They wouldn’t even announce their starting center for Week One. They listed two on the depth chart. He does this. It’s a little Parcellsichick schtick. He ain’t saying and he’s not an English major writing for Rotoworld so worrying about tenses has me grinning from one ear to the other LOL’ing. You’re now on his trip. Hit the eject button.

He ain’t telling the press and he ain’t telling the public.

Does anyone know if Fields can catch and do a Kordell slash role?

Just a curious question. I did see coach hasn't decided
Heard that kicked around in Pittsburgh too. If he could play WR, he would have been on the field after Russ came back other than some gadget QB/run plays. Team needed playmakers and Fields was the most exciting player on that offense 2024.

Fields was QB at Harrison HS, Ohio State in College as well as the NFL. Unlikely he is going to switch to WR but stranger things have happened.

Any updates if Fields is playing this week? I feel like it's been more difficult to find out news about practice and player updates this year for some reason
Because they play Monday my guess is we won't find anything out until Thursday
Not to mention AG loves pushing the line with the media and competitive edge - unless hes ruled out quick im not expecting to know if hes good to go or not until Monday

I would also point out. This is just highly subjective. Fantasy pros analysis of the press conference was that way was a great sign for Fields and he was assuredly going to be back on the field as the starter. Who knows.

I personally can’t imagine 1 bad game, after 1 good game has them benching him for a late 30’s career backup after paying him what they did. But pressure is a crazy thing and often forces bad decisions. How much pressure is AC already under 3 games into his HC career?

Yep. He is gonna get another shot. It's gonna be up to him.

Okay good. Love hearing Glenn say if he is cleared he is starting. Fairly confident he is cleared. Appears that this was his first concussion while in the NFL and he had one in college so we ain't in the Tua zip code for times it's happened. Wondering if it will effect how he approaches his game. My guess is it won't. Who knows though.

For sure. And a step in the Concussion Protocol is being able to practice and not have any post practice effects. Waiting the post practice part but seems like a positive sign for him starting on Monday.
