Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't mobile QB's have a longer "pocket time". Lamar was at 2.7, Wilson 2.7, Stroud at 2.6, Hurts 2.6, . I guess i am just not sure what that pocket time really tells me.

I'm simply arguing that the stat you're employing is a poor comparison because it's not apples to apples.

Being hyperfocused on a handful of cherry-picked stats while ignoring the big picture of what the Bears were his 1st 2 seasons (and arguably his 3rd), does the player an extreme disservice.

Again, if the Bears draft Williams, and fail to address the interior OL, he will be similarly set up for failure. Then who will Bears fans blame? Probably somehow Fields. lol

I was hoping the Steelers got him, and am obviously a believer he can be better than what we've seen so far. But if he lands on the Raiders with Getsy, he may as well retire now IMO.

There was talk of a Darnold/Zach Wilson pair in Minnesota and as a Bears fan that would make me absolutely ecstatic! I suspect that MIN will look at drafting one of the second tier QBs in this draft to develop while Darnold is out there taking hits and throwing interceptions.

I'd be pretty surprised if a team who put a 'temp' solution also went after Fields. Those teams are setting themselves up to draft someone if not in 1st than in 2nd or a trade up into back of 1st. In other years Fields would have more of a market but unfortunately for him and the Bears there's a high # of QBs available in the draft.

If you're the Bears it is not the common way of bringing a new QB in and is not ideal but if the market is that low for Fields then maybe keep him on the 6 million this year under the umbrella of competing for the starting job with Williams keep him through the draft and camp if need be perhaps there is an injury elsewhere and discuss trading him. You can keep the leverage on the first overall pick and keep it in-house but 6 million for a backup and insurance for Williams not being ready or the unexpected happens down the road you have a pretty solid plan B.

Justin should be okay with it if he is only being traded to be a backup somewhere else. He can stay in Chicago and both can wait for a better market later perhaps an injury or someone misses out on their big swing in the draft. I think some teams are getting QBs they do not have to give any compensation for and keeping options open for bigger moves.

OR there is a possibility Chicago is keeping Fields. I do not believe this is the case but you never know.

Yeah, certainly a valid optimistic view on it. I was just watching Fields tape again recently as I have a dynasty league converting to SF, and seeing what Getsy did week 2 when Chicago was down 3 with 3 minutes left, calling the same exact screen pass 3 ******** plays in a row inside their own 10 yard line with no time outs left had me punching air. Especially considering the last drive Fields went 6/6 with a TD throwing deep... This is also the same game they called 1, ONE, designed run for him. I don't understand how he's currently employed tbh. Fields is no hero, but will likely get work because QBs are in such short supply. OCs are not. Mind boggling.

It's obvious Fields needs work, and a lot of that needs to come from good coaching and situational play calling. I think we have almost 1.5 seasons of proof Getsy is not the guy for that in the slightest. More maddeningly, after half a season in 2022 of actually seeming to right the ship and tailor things around him. There were many times last season it looked to my untrained eye he was actively working against Fields strengths in his play calling, putting him in situations only a handful of QBs in the league could talent their way out of. Frustrating that should the two link yet again, and Fields fails, it will once again be squarely placed on his shoulders despite being pretty much set up for failure.

TLDR: IMO Getsy = Canada for offenses with developmental QBs.

Yep, it is smart. He made $2.5M for playing 5 regular season games with some bonus money tossed in there to for wins. He will do it again this year and be able to pick the right landing spot that will work for him

Signing Minshew and then trading for Fields makes zero sense. Minshew is making borderline starter salary. You just don't trade a 2nd (or 3rd) for a guy who's gonna sit on your bench for the year and then go into free agency. If they were planning to trade for Fields then they would have signed Rypien or some such then put the plan in place to make the trade sooner rather than later.

Signing Minshew and then trading for Fields makes zero sense. Minshew is making borderline starter salary. You just don't trade a 2nd (or 3rd) for a guy who's gonna sit on your bench for the year and then go into free agency. If they were planning to trade for Fields then they would have signed Rypien or some such then put the plan in place to make the trade sooner rather than later.

I think its entirely possible the Bears are still very much debating keeping Fields and trading down, especially as QB spots get filled, and teams get more desperate.

Also could see the Bears truly believing he's worth at least a 2nd rounder and refusing to budge. Though, logically, if you think that, then you don't really need to replace him, and should probably just stick with him.

If I am the owner, I tell my coaches, Fields and Caleb that Fields is staying, for now. I am not trying to hear that it's some impossible situation. Hey, coaches, work it out. Hey Fields, you wanna play? Beat out Caleb. Come in and compete, and if we can trade you, we will. Otherwise, you'll be free next year.

They might be forced to keep him, and maybe he's helpful down the road.
