QB Michael Penix Jr., ATL (4 Viewers)

What happened yesterday? Was he that bad or was it the whole team?
He hasn't looked accurate to me in the past two weeks, the receivers don't get a chance for YAC as they seem to me like they have to work to match the catch and nothing hits in stride. He also seems to not handle the blitz and he will see more of that coming.

The Panthers shutting you out is ugly stuff

It won't happen, but this is the perfect time to evaluate Penix alongside Cousins. Put Penix in for 2 series, then Cousins for 2 series. A controlled study. Play it out over 2 games. May the best QB win. Penix wasn't that accurate in his 3 game sample last year.

A healthy Kirk would be such a boon to this team right now. And they have that. It may hurt Penix development but do you wanna compete now or not?

Benching Pennix risks losing him - long term QB at controlled cost is worth more right now IMO. Gotta let the kid try to work out of it.

Man I can't believe how bad he has been. This offseason in a dynasty league I traded away Daniel Jones, Kraft, and the 1.10 rookie pick (used on Dart) for him and Kyle Williams. Just crippled my team :sadbanana: In another SF Dynasty League I was just offered Penix for my 1st next year, I think that's an easy reject at this point, right??

Wild line for the Falcons, this is kind of all on Penix

I mean, sort of. He didn’t fumble and also didn’t miss 2 FGs. But yeah, he sucked.
two god awful picks though
Go watch the 2nd pick. WR slipped. I saw one replay is all but it sure looked to me that the WR slipped on his cut.

Man do folks go nuts on stats sometimes without knowing what else *may* have taken place. Especially FFers. You have a team that without serious kicking issues, might not be anywhere near this doom and gloom.

Penix is in his 6th game or some such and is washed up. This, as I watch Goff, hear about Baker and Jalen, and so on. The knee-jerk reactions early in seasons and careers are so heightened. Especially at QB.

Nobody is saying this. Fair to wonder tho as he misses passes and generally looks rattled whether he ever was or will be.

But to your point... Penix has played exactly six NFL games. And even tho he's been poo for the last two, we should all relax just a bit, even if some concern is warranted.

Yeah, I mean, Jordan Love looked worse on Sunday and he’s making $50m per year

I was high on Penix. Still hope he does well.

He's in the fantasy deep freeze for a month though lets say.

And true only 6 games but he has the look of going backwards. We are looking for data points to chart.

He's going to be on a bunch of waiver wires this week, with good reason. Doesn't mean he's done forever but he's done right now, fantasy wise

But you're talking arguably the best D in football vs a bottom 5 D

So wait, we have a best D in football, and also have a bottom 5 D in football, already? After 3 weeks?

Can we call Manager Sam Sample Size to the Walmart check-out counter, for a minute?

TIA

He looked great throwing the ball against Tampa Bay. Could he be injured? I saw him slipping all over the place after one of his picks trying to make a tackle. Looked like maybe he was hurt

Where would you rank him ROS? Just got dropped in a SuperFlex and I'm short on decent QBs after losing Burrow.
I’m happy to start him in a 16 team league, but not a top 10. Basically the large group of 11-20 ish along withGeno, Goff, nix, stroud, Kyler, Bryce, Lawrence…

Post bye bump happening here? Showing well in a big game against a big opponent.

Maybe it was just getting Drake all the way back after his shoulder be he looks like a guy who may be someone to roster

Any reporting on his late game injury?
The Falcons being vague about his injury. Perhaps they somply don't know yet.
His knees are a major concern for me. I thought for sure he was going to fall in the draft due to his medical profile. I hope he's ok, but he's another guy I hold my breath with every time he goes down.

Amazing snippet of an interview reprinted at the Falcoholic website in the comment section. I'll verify the veracity.

This Penix thing is amazeballs. Check out this part of an interview with Penix.

“Reporter: ‘Who do you lean on, to like help you, like we haven't played quarterback, so do you lean on like a former quarterback or your coaches to kind of just help you assess things good and bad?’

Penix: ‘You saying like as far as on the field?’

Reporter: ‘Yeah, both, like to help you mentally and physically.’

Penix: ‘Oh. Um...*long pause*. No.’

That's word for word” - The Falcoholic comments

oh dear God. The video at the link is worse. These guys are all fired also. Jeez. Green Bay, Philly, Atlanta, New York, maybe the other New York, the beat goes on. And Todd Bowles is safe.

I watched/listened to the video a few times.

The reporter immediately leads him outside the organization with her question. “Like, who do you lean on to help you? Do you lean on a former quarterback or…?”

His mind is already taken outside the Falcons’ organization. Hell, his first thought is his fiancé. I don’t think he understood what she was asking or even if she actually was asking who in the organization helps him.

I’m all for a Falcons implosion, but this is really being blown out of proportion.

Fair enough. I thought the text of the words was enough, but your explanation is at least plausible. But is it the most likely reason he said that? I will admit he looks like he's really struggling and that isn't a question one should struggle with. I think the "likes" threw him off, as did the sex (male/female) part of the questioner. He might have been thinking, "she's a woman, so, I should give respect to my fiancé." We will likely get a clarification if that is the case. Okay.

I saw this on Reddit last night and the impending meltdowns commenced. Felt like a huge overreaction to a simple misinterpretation. He brings up former coaches too in his answer.

I don’t think Penix had any calculated intention of calling out his current coaching staff here the way Caleb Williams did last year.

I have watched this team closely, fwiw, and I can't think of a more underperforming squad out there. WAY better than their record.

Their star QB basically saying that he has no co-pilots, or air traffic controllers for that matter, and is just out there flying by the seat of his pants -- aside from some old friends/coaches here and there -- is telling. Oh, and hugs from his fiancé? LOL. Do you think Sean Payton would be handling a young QB like this?

One thing I have seen, and it's been obvious for a while now, what the biggest problem is. And this goes side by side with what Penix inadvertently stated.

Raheem Morris. He is not an NFL Head Coach, period. And the QB / Offense is only part of it. Awful HC.

Whomever gets this wayward ship next year will be sitting on a pile of talent.

"Falcons coach frustrated by viral clip of Michael Penix Jr."

"Stop looking for stuff on a young man," Morris said Friday. "You don't need this stuff on him. It is what it is. But all of those things people do, it doesn't matter to affect this building.

"I just feel bad for the kid. I don't want the kid having to deal with stuff that doesn't matter or stuff that's not real. ... Let his problems be his problems, like third downs. Let's fix those. Don't make up [a thing] that doesn't exist."

Uh, say what?
