QB Quinn Ewers, MIA (1 Viewer)

I'm fascinated by him turning down 8mil to make 800k.
He's not stupid.
How much pressure has he been through and all the Arch stuff to see the NFL and a payout as a decision.
It's really unique

Do you know who offered him 8mil?

No actually I don't heh.
The radio conversation was just that figure and went into NIL and he's one of the most prized recruits of the era and ...nah idk.

Googling it seems he and his high school coach know which team but they're not saying

Discussion has been about this lately.

I am not a fan of where QBs went in this draft nor the state of backup QBs in the NFL.

Have you ever done a drunk FF draft? This NFL draft makes way more sense to me if I just discard it as a lot of them were drunk and having a good time.

What was said predraft and where guys went...that didn't always fall logically for me at all.

Us FF guys know what's reasonable to use "need" as altering a draft some and I think we'd all smell something here if GMs were telling us it's wonky due to need.

It just..idk

Oh you got the short hand guy that shouldn't be drafted at all but in the third?
Having a dad as a former NFL player is bad.
Taking a team to a championship makes you fall in rankings.
Being the fastest or quickest QB ever with an arm that can throw anywhere and led a big program...yeah he should change positions but he'll go in the third.

I can go on and on and it just makes me think of some fun FF drafts with an amount of shots I can't remember

Maybe they were all drunk

All I know is the article said Ewers dropped below 200 lbs during the season. No way an NFL QB can survive at that size.

I'm sure it was somewhere in the middle. He likely thought this was a soft class for QBs vs next year so he thought he'd go higher (most had him on day 2 or 3 as a prospect). Next years class is nuts so staying in school and going to say, the Hurricanes, would have gotten him NIL money but made him an afterthought in 2026.

As it is, he likely landed in one of the best spots for a guy like him: the #1 guy has an injury history and the #2 guy is unproven at best, and the system fits his skillset (Vs ending up somewhere like the Bills where they barely need to carry 3 qbs)

Be it '25 or even '26, the next hit that Tua absorbs that causes his next concussion, it might be his last one
I am of the opinion he shouldn't be on the field now. He can't protect himself and while I appreciate what he has done and showing what the QB position can look like...
He just cannot be in the long term plans any more for the Miami Dolphins.

$50M against the cap
Miami would save $35M-$38M releasing him at that point which may sound crazy to folks outside of Miami and perhaps many who live here as well.
But for fans that watch him week in week out, doubt many of us would have extended him for $50M a season
In Grier's defense that is the going rate but Miami is not getting good value for their dollars.

I am interested in how Ewers will look in the preseason.

I think this is Tua's last year as a Dolphin starter unless he leads them deep into the playoffs and has a fully "upright year"

There are enough QBs in the class of 2026 that MIami will likely go shopping in that class unless the above happens which would take them out of the running. The signing of Wilson and the drafting of Ewers means Miami needs to "hit" on one of these three guys moving forward to avoid the 2026 reset of the team.

They need to hit on OL picks and free agents.

Signing Titans castoffs when they had the worst rated OL was shockingly bad.
Brewer is tiny. Until they own that he shouldn't be a starting C and restock that line, it's going to be rough for them.

I would not draft a QB until the line is built well. How would fans react to Tua's replacement getting smashed into the turf?

PFT has him turning down four mil from the U of Miami. That's not 8 but it's something.
Adds a wrinkle to playing college versus pro in Miami too.

Also he signed a trading card deal with Panini for three mil.
Why is he worth that after being a late pick? Card companies aren't just fools that don't know sports and sell sports items. They're knowledgeable. So...why?

Another wrinkle to his story

If you don't know very much about Quinn Ewers, I would have a look at Gruden's interview with him at his QB camp
I think this kid has a lot of moxie and self belief which I don't view as a bad thing. He needs work and someone to sharpen his skills but he's got upside
I like him way more than Dillon Gabriel and I hate to bring this up but with Tua's track history, there's a chance we see Ewers this season.
