QB Russell Wilson, NYG (3 Viewers)

If and I mean if Russell Wilson starts. Justin will have plays especially for him as Grid71 stated and let me state this everyone knows he can run like a gazelle, but the dude can catch.

Tomlin hasn't officially confirmed this, but it has been leaked by others. Coach T has teased us about it. Steelers acknowledge Justin Fields package
"His athleticism is freaky," Tomlin said about Fields. "My friend Raheem Morris better be ready for a Justin Fields package... there's too much talent to be sitting around watching," Tomlin also told the Rich Eisen Show after the announcement.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini echoed that statement this summer. “We’ll start with the idea of Justin Fields having some packages for him in this offense,” she said. “100 percent that is the plan; they’ve already worked on it. It’s in the playbook.”

Can't find it now, but there was a player interview over the summer where it was leaked about plays specifically for Fields "in the playbook"

It's surprising that they'd make the change with the team sitting at 4-2, but seems like Wilson fits more of Tomlin's philosophy of steadying the ship and winning with fewer mistakes, a strong defense, and a steady ground game. Fields obviously brings a ton to the run game and extending drives, but I'm sure the conservative Tomlin nearly has a heart attack watching him play.

Wilson will make plenty of mistakes behind this current O line. Fields has not looked good at all the past 2 weeks but his athleticism has something to do with their wins. I bet Fields starts and is put on a very short leash.

Ok yeah I just watched that entire Tomlin press conference and whoever is reporting on this is way way out ahead of their skis. I recorded it and will make a shorter edited version of it to share. But my take is that Tomlin means it when he says there is a myriad of factors that go into deciding things.

One telling quote was when he was asked by a reporter (after a while of prior talk about Fields/Wilson as well as other Steeler subjects) who said something to the effect of "just to be clear and sorry if you said it earlier but you're saying Wilson *will* get some 1st team reps this week?"

And Tomlin replied he doesn't know yet. He clearly will be getting some reps but watch the video and you'll see he's just trying to make sure they're both up to speed for a team that wants to compete and the NFL is tough and rah rah.

I'm def gonna make some other plans this week but I'd bet 4:1 Fields being the favorite to start.

That would be my guess as well - that Fields starts but if they're struggling at halftime, Russ takes over.

I don't care for Russini former ESPN Mouse and now works at the Atlantic, I'm serious when I say I really am appalled this woman has a career but she emphatically stated the locker room and everyone in and around that Steelers facility is on the Fields Train so if she's wrong then she should lose some more journalistic credibility and maybe she should move over into another line of work in social media and leave the NFL and football alone, watched her for a long time on the DLS and she still makes frequent appearances, I just think she's foolish for the most part

George Pickens said he’s been putting in extra work with QB Russell Wilson after practice - more than usual - “because this is his first start.”

Mike Tomlin 30 minutes ago 😅

"I'm keeping (the QB decision) in-house."
And everyone slobbers all over Tomlin. I just don't get it. How are not more fans tired of this same story of mediocrity and stupidity.

That's not really what she said. It's more like "QB has teammates that support QB".

“From everything that I’ve been told, Justin Fields has won over the locker room, he’s won over the coaching staff. He’s the guy that they all want to play for.”

What's your take on the following?

Russell Wilson received a low PFF grade of 64.1 in Week 7 against the Jets due to accuracy issues. His adjusted completion percentage was just 64.0%, ranking him 34th among NFL quarterbacks for that week. Wilson's debut with the Steelers had some ups and downs, and his struggles with accuracy were a significant factor in his low grade.

Top 5 Passing Matchups

Pittsburgh vs Baltimore

Russell Wilson hasn't reached elite status among AFC quarterbacks, but his willingness to push the ball downfield gives Denver's offense a higher weekly ceiling—especially in a favorable matchup like this one. Wilson has yet to throw 30 passes in a game this season, but his 14.7 yards per completion leads all quarterbacks with at least 75 attempts, showcasing his ability to create big plays.

That’s a terrible error.

This chump cost me my week. Streamed him against the Ravens league worst pass defense where below average QBs routinely pass for 300 yards and he delivered 7 fantasy points. I’m dropping this punk.

This team is going to lose in the first round of the playoffs unless they figure out to go with Fields.

Just getting caught up on the early games. That red zone pick was truly fugly.

Justin Wilson throws that away.
:fishing:
100%. Dangeruss played Ravens pass D that’s on schedule to give up over 5000 yards passing. He should have played a lot better. Yes they got the W, but 0 credit goes to Russ for that. All those FGs….I’m still waiting for my Pickens TD.

Whoops. Justin Fields. lol

I personally quite enjoyed him regularly screwing up and missing open receivers to allow my kicker to score 24 points and also thankful the person in front of me on waivers picked him allowing me to grab Herbert instead

Call me crazy but I actually think this is a rare instance where the team should utilize both QBs heavily. Fields should be in on all short down situations and probably in the red zone. Let Wilson handle the rest. Bada bing - championship baby!

They can have "one QB" and have it be Russ. No problem with that, at this point. But that isn't mutually exclusive to bringing in "one ATH" from the 5 yard line or less, or in SY. It's lunacy not to when you have Fields to leverage there.

Fields is too good in those situations to not force the opposing defense to defend it. Glad Coach T/Artie remembered that when then needed that last yard to ice the game, called the TO, and corrected the error. Hopefully, it continues. They could have had a walk in TD on that series where Russ threw the INT in the end zone had they called the exact same play, but used Fields the play before on 2nd down.
