I have no idea why Saleh still has a job at this point.
Salah is not the GM. O-Line is horrible. That leads to bad QB play.
Rodgers is hurt, Boyle has no skills and can`t play, Wilson has all the skills and can`t play. Good D but it can`t hold up with all the 3 and outs.
I'm really more talking about sticking with Wilson as long as he did. That's just gross negligence or dereliction of duty, IMO.
Big fan of the Blade in this particular instance I think you are off on Saleh
I do think he is likely going to be fired BUT...I don't think anyone else is going to walk in and make magic with Rodgers
it is possible they could upgrade at HC but the Jets have several problems and he in no way attempts to portray himself as the GM or selecting the players he is coaching...
That alone might save his job for 1 more year.
-Who are the Jets going to hie that's gonna push them over the top or in the right direction?
They made their bed, Hackett is likely retained since they want to continue with Rodgers
Truth be told, Rodgers to the Jets feels cursed but let's let the Jets figure all that out
Fair enough. I guess I just point to the Vikings snagging Dobbs - something Saleh and the Jets could have done right away. I know hindsight is 20/20 but there were better options out there than Wilson and then to stick with him that long just seems incredulous to me.
Let's go back to when they made a trade for Rodgers and everyone was happy that rooted for the Jets
-I didn't hear many Jets fans like
@Kiddnets ,
@TLEF316 and
@rockaction talking up that they needed a really strong back up QB
Hind sight is 20/20 like you said, it's sad but when Rodgers went down the end of the '23 season for the jets took place, we just got lulled into thinking they were a potential playoff team still.
They're NOT!
I was ok with ZW being the back up while Rodgers was healthy - I was and am not ok with JD sitting on his hands when Rodgers was declared out for the season. There is a huge difference between throwingf Zach in there for a game or 2 tops vs an entire season. Just about everyone I recall on the Jets thread were crying for a competent QB to be signed ASAP.
This.
Its easy to say "they should have had someone better than Tim Boyle" in retrospect. But if they had spent 4-5 million on a 3rd string QB back in April (while paying Rodgers a fortune and Wilson a ton as a "backup") it would have been seen as a waste of resources.
Sure would be nice to have Mike White for $3.5M right now.....or Gardner Minshew(although he stunk yesterday)...or whoever....but there's always a possibility they would have chosen other destinations anyway (for a better chance to play)
The main issue was not jumping on SOMETHING better than "lets hope Zach still doesn't stink" when Aaron went down. But what was really out there? Wentz? Could they have gotten Dobbs? (seems unlikely, as Arizona probably wouldn't have traded him before Murray was ready) None of those are very good options. I'd certainly argue they should have signed Simien and gotten him up to speed (as I think he's better than Boyle) earlier....but that's not saving the season. Nobody could succeed behind current o-line. That likely improves as Brown, Becton, McGovern and Schweitzer get healthy (not that they're world beaters...but they're better than what was out there on Friday) but the season is over now.
Maybe the season ends up different (even with Boyle or Wilson at QB) if they got 17 games of Becton, Tomlinson (although he kinda sucks too), McGovern, Tippman, AVT on the O-line. But that didn't happen. And the reaility is that the non Garrett Wilson WR's still stink and Hackett is an idiot...so they may have blown it regardless.
