QB Trey Lance, LAC (6 Viewers)

Well the 49ers clearly say they’re not buying he amounts to much or I assume he’d have been shipped to the AFC.

Surprised a team like the Cardinals didn’t kick the tires between Kyler’s injury and to tell them if they need to go QB @ 1.1 next year.

Kind of surprised they got a 4th rounder.

Certainly has more upside than Cooper Rush, who was protected about as much as any QB I've seen. Lance could/should be the backup as soon as he learns the offense.
I’m not so sure about that. Rush showed he could play within his ability and win games for that team.

Dallas has SB aspirations (whether they’re realistic or not is another subject for another day) - if Dak goes down, I don’t see them handing the keys to the caddy to Trey Lance.

I’m deeply skeptical he ascends to QB2 this year.

Wow.

It's done. I'm over it. See ya.
To Dallas no less.

Ugly end to an ugly saga.

At least it could get interesting if Lance ever gets a chance to start for DAL, and if they then play a meaningful game against SF.

I’ll be over here not holding my breath for that to happen.

He's played like 5 games in 3-4 years now? He legit needs to go somewhere he can actually play football. This deal to Dallas isn't much better than the Niners, he's not going to get 1st team reps with Dak around and the backup Rush will get all the scout team work.

I don't think anything is changing that pick. Cards are taking Caleb

They 100% won despite Rush, he was not good at all. The dominant defense won games for them when Dak was out. I do wonder if Lance could have a Taysom Hill-ish role in his future.

So you believe the Cowboys, say they’re 7-5, fighting got a playoff spot, and say Dak does down for 4-6 weeks with [insert injury here] would turn to Trey Lance?

Again. I’m deeply skeptical.

People acting like Trey has been dealt a bad hand.

The dude is rich beyond what most of us could ever imagine. If he never plays a down in the NFL I won't lose a minute of sleep.

Trey wasn't what the 49ers hoped to get. His college rushing numbers suggest he was a Josh Allen/Lamar Jackson type. He's not. He's big with a strong arm but is slow AF. Once they realized that, they knew they whiffed IMO

The Cowboys will pay Lance’s guaranteed salaries of $940,000 for 2023 and $5.3 million for 2024, according to Schefter. Dallas has the right to decide whether to exercise Lance’s fifth-year option for 2025.
Trey Lance
Date of birth
May 9, 2000
age 23 years
Cowboys have Trey Lance for 3 years if they exercise that 2025 option.
I like it.
Go Cowboys!

How many 4th round picks have the possible upside?

Maybe he comes in for four games and looks great, and they trade him. Great move by Dallas.
I would have actually liked the Bucs to trade for him but it makes me think he’s pretty bad if that’s the best the niners could get.

This isn't what Lance truthers wanted to see. At least he gets a fresh start and a chance to be QB2.

That was a weird move by Dallas. I guess they wanted some upside in their QB room. Rush won't lose you games, but he isn't winning games either.

Nobody knows if he's good or bad. The 49ers didn't have the time to find out. Maybe Dallas does. That's absolute truth.

Maybe they are tuning in to Stephen A. Smith and putting Dak on notice. (jk…probably)

Why would any team let him play football? He's only played in 8 games since 2020.

It's the conundrum with a guy like Lance. He desperately needs reps because he's not game ready, but teams don't have extra reps for players that are not game ready.

His best chance for PT is to run the scout team and show something there.

This whole ordeal shows the importance of the QB position in today's NFL...a very well-run organization like San Fran was willing to go all in on a very raw prospect because of the position he plays...unfortunately for them they got burnt badly...they are not the first team to get burnt gambling on a young QB although Lance was about as raw as you could get...the good news is if you are the Niners and you close your eyes and pretend Lance is actually Purdy the trade worked out exactly how they planned it...for Dallas rolling the dice for Lance on a 4th round pick is a smart decision...Lance gets a fresh start with far more realistic expectations so hopefully he can settle down and figure it out...if he doesn't, they did not give up a ton...if he ends up being a solid backup it's a good deal and if by chance they unlock his talent and he becomes close to what San Fran thought he could be it is a steal.

What has Lance shown since he's come into the NFL that would indicate that he could play 4 games and be good. Has he had 4 good games in a season ever? You probably have to go back to to high school.

I can’t believe the niners got a fourth round pick for an unproven and QB that has not shown much of anything after a couple of years. Not sure what Dallas is doing. It’s going to take more than 4 good games for Lance to have trade value.
