QB Trey Lance, LAC (2 Viewers)

Trey Lance (knee) won't play in Week 7 against the Colts.

Lance is still hindered from the knee sprain he suffered in his spot-start against the Cardinals prior to San Francisco's bye. With Jimmy Garoppolo cleared from the injury report, the veteran will presumably take every snap (barring any reaggravation) in Sunday's torrential forecast.

Cool story Tony. We care about fantasy this year and it's doubtful he sniffs the field. have my eye on him closer to fantasy playoff time though
You might be right. But his upside if he does is huge.
i have him in a dynasty SF where I could really use someone to start (my QB2 right now is Davis Mills and Ty when he returns, unless Watson somehow plays this year) but I have a real hard time thinking about trading him.

Yea at this point its a death grip hold for me, might be sunk cost fallacy at play though, but I don't care, the upside is why I drafted him. Its drilled into my brain that he still has the elite upside, if only Kittle avoided IR and we saw the run game not take that hit during his starts. Flip side, I feel we could have seen his best shot go to waste.

In other words, I'll go down with the ship.

With the team free falling and the offense stagnant, hopefully we'll see Shanahan relent and turn the reins over to Lance soon. They can't be any worse off then they are now.

Fair point, although as much of a blowhard that Shanny is, I think he'll be more successful with Lance than Nagy is with Fields.

You know I used to think that.  I now think Shanny is way overrated.  This team is badly underperforming across the board

Jimmy G really looked bad....SF probably beats the Bears next week then loses to Cards and Rams - that puts them at 3-6 and pretty much out of it.

.Im staring at week 11 at Jax as a nice spot to put the kid in.  Thats 6 games to get his feet wet and show what he can do.

I think he starts as soon as he is healthy. When asked if Jiommy starts next week Shanny offered up a: "I would guess so."

Not exactly a vote of confidence. This season is toast for SF get Lance in and make something of the rest of the games. Guy needs reps.

Would be so great if the Niners parted ways with Shanny after this season and lured Brian Daboll. A keeper league owner can dream...

TREY LANCE QB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

NBC Sports' Jennifer Lee Chan said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has been resistant to rotating quarterbacks because it "stunts" his in-game play calling.

Lance, the third pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has one touch since Week 6 -- a three-yard rush against the Jaguars in Week 11. Shanahan said Lance's lack of playing time has nothing to do with his practice performance or preparation -- the team has a Lance-based package for every game -- but rather Shanahan's comfort as the team's offensive play caller. “What’s been hard on me ... is when you do bring in a different quarterback who gets a different set of plays, it’s almost the first play I’ve been seeing of a new defense," Shanahan said, adding a QB rotation "kind of hurts my rhythm a little bit." The 49ers offense has been humming of late, giving Shanahan little reason to force Lance into the lineup. Whether the team can avoid a quarterback rotation with Deebo Samuel (groin) sidelined remains to be seen. Lance should only be rostered as a stash in superflex leagues.

makes perfect sense and it's what good franchises do.  A number of teams always are looking for QB upgrades and someone will bite.
Agreed - the Chiefs did the same thing having Mahomes sit for a year. Better to have Lance watch and learn for a year and work on his passing game in the offseason to get ready for next year.

Jimmy G should have a fair amount of suitors indeed, especially with a relatively poor rookie crop entering the draft. Denver, Pittsburgh, Houston, Washington, Detroit, New Orleans, Carolina, and Green Bay (if Rodgers goes to one of the others mentioned). Just a matter of whether a team can and is willing to absorb Jimmy's pretty hefty contract.

Putting your franchise quarterback on the trade block for a draft pick that at this point can't even match Garoppolo's game manager numbers while in his 5th season is not a "good franchise", given how they are still underwater in the win/loss column overall in the Garoppollo era. Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, hell they were still drafted with not even as much as Carmen Policy gave up for ages, when he had only three picks and drafted Druckenmiller. Garopollo is still a third tier quarterback, with only one full season under his belt, and that was due to an easy SOS, a run game, and a defense. Think about it. If you have Garopollo, why trade the farm for a Lance? They could had gotten Tom Brady, but they opted for Garopollo. Rodgers said no them them as well. The 49ers haven't had an elite quarterback since Steve Young. The best quarterback since  was Jeff Garcia.

The 49ers are not a "good franchise". They have only posted 4 ten win seasons since John York fired Mooch after losing a playoff game, and then purged an entire Pro Bowl offense with Terry Donahue as GM. York hired Dennis Erickson to replace Mooch, and the only head coach to win consecutive ten win seasons was Harbaugh, who was canned for Trent Baalke, who took over for Scot McGlouhan who built those ten win teams.

If Lance goes bust or gets RG3'D, the 49ers - having once  being considered Browns/Bengals West - are now WFT West. I may trigger a few whiplash "your just harshin' on my IPA and CBD gummies bro, here's a Jimmy stat from the Webzone, my pet gator needs some love, lol, I found a Kittle jersey that fits him. Or her, I can't tell bruh", but "good franchises" in a quarterback driven league where 15 touchdowns going into week 12 is like Mac Jones but not at over 100 million dollars. Hell you can get that out of Taylor Henike with WFT.

Marathe isn't trying to trade Garopollo. He is trying to dump him. On who?

Garopplo doesn't even have the arm or legs of a Watson or even Newton. He is a "system QB" that even Shanahan can't build his own system around. Oft injured quarterbacks who are handcuffed in big games does not scream "Drew Brees in New Orleans". Garopollo's only physical trait is his face. His is fragile, has no deep ball, and is a liability because of his legs and lack of pocket presence.  Defenses do not fear Jimmy Garoppolo. Because they can kill him if the offense can't run the ball. The only front office that granted Garopplolo franchise dolla  were the 49ers, and look at their record under him (and the 49ers franchise dolla are like sell on the Parag short anyway). Sure he has a winning record, but it's only because they have had to start backups because he can't even stand up physically to CJ Beathard.

Jimmy Garoppolo is done. He never arrived either. He isn't even a stopgap. Jared Goff has a real career compared to Garoppolo. Garoppolo isn't even in any conversation when it comes to quarterbacks. Unless you consider he being him being "an embattled" quarterback to the black box of Trey Lance.

The funny thing that 49er fans have already conceded in this conversation:

Your season is over when you are shopping Garoppolo for at the most given Maratheball an oft injured CB, a scrub WR for a halfback, and a plethora of late round picks for John Lynch to look like he is involved until Jed sees that the fanbase hates Lynch for blowing later round picks.

SF traded a boatload for Lance - they have no choice but to see what they have in him.  Id like to see him get one game to start by the end of the season to get a sense if there has been any progress.

May happen if they’re out of the playoff race, but with Shanahan, who knows.

TREY LANCE QB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Trey Lance has improved over the past month while running the scout team.

"This last month of Trey has been his best consecutive four weeks at practice since we've had him," Shanahan said. "He's had a number of good days and he's had some bad days like most guys do, but as far as his consistency and stuff, I feel this last month has been his best." Lance could be forced into action this week against the Texans if Jimmy Garoppolo -- who injured his right thumb in Week 16 -- is unable to suit up. In his lone regular season start, Lance completed 51.3 percent of his passes for 192 yards and an interception while rushing for 89 yards. Against a ghastly Houston run defense, Lance -- available in 88 percent of Yahoo! leagues -- would be a low-end QB1 option thanks to his rushing floor. He has fantasy championship winning upside in Week 17.

As someone who owns Lamar, watched Huntley go to Covid, and then somehow survived with M. Ryan, consider me intrigued.

If I can start Ryan in the semis, I can sure as hell start Lance vs HOU D.

Same except I survived with Big Ben.

Lamar, Huntley, Lance, Taysom Hill?

my opponent has Dionte Johnson on MNF. Please talk me out of Big Ben.  I tend to always lean players playing in “walk off” scenarios

Lance starting might be incredible for me, since my dynasty league requires us to start a rookie.  Could be a big upgrade over Michael Carter.  Of course, I might not have an actual QB if Lamar or Huntley isn't able to go, but considering I somehow won my semifinal match while starting Taylor Heineke, I'll take what I can get.

Lance over who this week if he starts ?

I’ve got Dak and I THINK I’d be sticking with Dak at home
I've got Lamar, Huntley, and Lance. Could also grab Josh Johnson.

If Lamar is still limping around and Huntley is weak from Covid I may have no choice. Even if Lamar isn't hobbled and/or Huntley is off the list, Lance could still be in consideration.

Looking forward to this decision in 72 hours. Not. Hope it's made for me.

Dak seems like the most logical choice.

As far as Lance goes, I will repeat what I said in the Huntley thread. I want to see him in real game action, not next year in training camp and exhibition games vs scrubs.

It clearly sounds like Im crapping on the kid (im not), but I just dont get the appeal here at THAT HIGH a pick.

How are teams willing to... no wait... draft hasnt happened... But how are analysts putting a kid who hasn't played last season (at QB!), has ONE season of film, in an awful conference, who has only ONE 300yd passing game to his name, at a top 3 selection?

I genuinely feel like the criteria for QBs coming out of college has gradually decayed to an unrecognizable state.

(This is in no way saying he cant/wont be a star in the nfl, anyone out of college can be... but we're talking top 3 pick "consensus" at QB in 2021)

this goes back early... he was taken THAT early after showing basically nothing in college, as a passer.

lamar was 10x the passing qb (and as good/better a runner) and look where he went

to further my point of lamar v lance in college.... lamar in 2017 szn ALONE had 6 300+yd passing games

nah, just sticking to my pre-draft analysis... seeing absolutely nothing that i think will change my mind.

again, i fully know it's early. very early. still every chance he becomes a star. i just see now what i saw in college.
Didn’t he play for like South Dakota A&M Wesleyan or something like that?  How many of his college games have you seen?

i watch a good amount of college. when it comes to Lance, probably only caught 1-2 of his games, knowing he was being touted as a stud.

and like i always do, watch a good amount of comps on the youtube. just wasnt impressed w what i saw overall (and again, there wasnt much at all to see)
