QB Trey Lance, LAC (2 Viewers)

I mentioned this on a thread that I created but the Cowboys need to trade him to the Dolphins before the deadline. I'm just not convinced Tua is going to be 100%. Besides, Lance does have familiarity with the Kyle Shanahan-style offense that Mike McDaniel runs. If he doesn't get sent to the Dolphins before the deadline, I'm going to be very surprised.

I would say no!🤣🤣

You know that’s a parody account, right?

OK, let's talk Trey...

Anything to see here?

Opinions on his viability as a fantasy QB moving forward in this 2024 Season?

Dude hasn't played any meaningful NFL football so just speculation on my part that there is probably a reason for that... he stinks.

Now that Dak is gone for the season, there is only on reason why the Cowboys wouldn't play Trey Lance ROS... see previous answer.

Apparently Howard Bender/Andrew Cooper were talking about Lance on their Podcast and raised the idea that he could routinely put up 200yp/1TD and 50-100yr/1TD games, which would ensure to a 20-point expectation with 30-point spikes in most high-stakes scoring formats.

I think that's a pretty ambitious way of looking at things, but I endeavor to be open-minded.

What says the Pool?

I don't care a whitt about his NFL prospects, only his fantasy value, and if there is legitimate upside with him, thats worth pursuing and investing in.
Thanks!

He has the upside of Daniel Jones imo.
Funny, but not really. Jones could be an excellent H-Back in this league. Upgraded version of Taysom Hill. Lance just sucks. Another swing and a miss by Jerry. Pay a guy 5M dollars to be your 3rd QB, that will be on a practice squad somewhere next season.
I meant regarding the QB position, DJ is a better runner and would have a better chance excelling at another position. Both seem very unnatural at the QB position, however DJ is still miles ahead of Lance there (not a compliment to either).

He used to always have a "local" Texas QB as his third string or fourth string in camp and sold plenty of preseason tickets.

He likes people talking about his backup QBs.

Give him enough time and he'll mention Kellen in an interview too.

It's weird but most teams have an uninteresting third stringer so...idk

I don't have a problem with any of that outside paying a 4th rounder to acquire him. Kind of ridiculous for a team mostly devoid of young talent and in desperate need of a full rebuild. If Rush is your guy at a backup, fine, run with him and draft a viable replacement/backup with your 4th next season. Lance was never going to be around past this year, and they obviously weren't trying or doing a good enough job to showcase him for a trade, so what was the point? Same team that gave up a 4th for Mingo. Not sure why I even care. Jerry's a fool.

I’m not without shame, 14 team DEVY PPR start 1QB

In 2021

  • Team A gave up Lance, Trey SFO QB; Gainwell, Kenneth PHI RB; Packers, Green Bay GBP Def
  • Me. gave up Dobbins, J.K. BAL RB; Moore, Elijah NYJ WR; Pittman, Michael IND WR
I now have Dobbins back. No longer roster the stud Lance.

The NFL announced on Saturday that Lance has been fined $22,511 for unnecessary roughness. The specific foul involved the use of his helmet. Lance lowered his head to deliver a hit to Eagles safety Reed Blankenship after Blankenship recovered a fumble and began running toward the Dallas end zone. Lance was not penalized during the game.

What did the Niners ever see in him?
What did Dallas think they were getting?
Size, arm, athletic, apparently really smart and coachable. Played in a small college but they ran a pro style offense and gave him of responsibilities that NFL Qb's generally handle and teams like what they saw.

The COVID year and his injuries just put him on a path were the amount of games he played over like a 5 year period was so small, the amount of passes he threw since he left high school some Qb's throw in a single season.

What SF and Dallas could never figure out, and I can't either, is how do you develop a QB in the NFL you don't feel like you can put out on the field? You can grow and develop in this league but at that position from nearly square one it's asking to much to take the needed growth and development. You can't "hide" them and development them on the field because they take entire teams down, destroy lockerooms, etc, etc. Colts are figuring this out now-the difficulty of developing a raw QB with actual on field experience.

CFL or any league he can get actual game experience is everything he needs. Maybe two years in those type of leagues and he could position himself to make a return if he plays well. Two years from now he'll be a year older then Tyler Shough is now, and I think he's probably going in round 2 so he's got time still.

Very talented runner. He should switch positions because his not going to be a QB.
He's not actually a talented runner, that's part of the problem.
I agree, that was almost as disappointing of an aspect of his game as his passing ability. I thought with his “running prowess” it would buy him time to develop as a passer….then I saw him run and wondered why that was considered one of his strengths. One of the bigger misses by the Niner organization. Thankfully they quickly redeemed themselves with the Purdy pick.

Yep. I was going to say something this morning and chastise STEADY about assuming things, but it was the morning and I figured I'd spare everybody the nitpick and lecture.

Lance ain't fast and isn't that good of a runner at all. He's mediocre at best for a reasonably young QB.

I remember thinking the amount of football he had played since high school was just stunningly low...and at NDSU at that.

I agree with your '2 years' would help view, but at the same time...I don't think anyone is handing him a starters role there. I mean we're talking 7 years of soooo little football. He's 25 in May which means that even if he balls in the CFL...we're entering 'window has passed' territory IMO.

remember, he was drafted at a time when running QB were beginning to be a thing. the fact he ran at all was considered huge at that time. Everyone was like, hes dual threat. I was like, dude cant hit the target with a throw often enough. Hes basically Tim Teebow but throws a bit better and cannot run as well. but still not great.

I had hopes his throwing motion would improve with some pro level coaching but those types of things can be fixed sometimes, but not always. if the same throwing motion has been used for years, its kind of hard to reprogram the body to do it the right way. Hurts was an example of a player who was able to fix his throwing motion (mostly) with success. he still will occasionally slip to his old ways when under a lot of pressure, but that doesnt happen often. (partly due to the top notch O line they have there in Philly)

Im not assuming anything. Much like everyone else, I have barely seen him play. With that said- in my severely limited view of him- I’ve seen a few runs that he has looked solid on. His passing has been abysmal.

So yes, I think he is a better athlete than quarterback and if he’s going to make it, it’s probably at receiver or TE.

ETA - Dude ran for a thousand yards in college!!

With all of that said - I’ll certainly admit I don’t know the player.
