Good question, but not sure. I read that he mixes it up, which could cause confusion to a QB. I would put Ramsey on  Parker and go from there.

I think Flores knew a bye week was the best opportunity to prepare his rookie to play. If they're smart they will feature a lot of Gaskin and a lot of easy, quick reads for Tua. He does throw a beautiful deep ball, and the fins have seen that in practice, so they'll take a few shots I'm sure.  The main problem would be if Tua tries to play hero ball as he did sometimes in college. Then he's going to get pancaked.

Tua Tagovailoa completed just 12-of-22 passes for 93 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins' 28-17, Week 8 win over the Rams.

The Dolphins certainly didn't pull off this one on the back of Tagovailoa, who literally did nothing to write home about in his first NFL start. On his first drop-back, Aaron Donald strip-sacked the rookie quarterback, but that was the only sack the Rams would muster. The Dolphins punted nine times, as their defense and special teams unit combined for two touchdowns. Tua played so conservatively, almost putting viewers to sleep. Ryan Fitzpatrick was at least fun to watch. The Dolphins travel to Arizona in Week 9. Nothing would suggest Tua is worth starting as a top-24 fantasy option for that one.

Per the analysis present by Barry Jackson of the Herald:

A) If Tagovailoa isn’t very good Sunday, don’t worry. Plenty of great quarterbacks have struggled in their debuts.

B) If Tagovailoa doesn’t show anything during the next five games or struggles in four of them, be concerned, because all of the very good quarterbacks who started as rookies in this past decade had at least one very good game in their first five and most had more than that.

The defenses he will face, after the Rams, are rated 20th (Arizona), 19th (Chargers), ninth (Denver) and 23rd (Jets).

(C) If Tagovailoa is extraordinary Sunday, the odds are slim that he will be a big disappointment based on recent history, though Mariota is the outlier.

This game is almost an incomplete grade. Tua wasn't asked to do much and he had 3 drops, one by Gaskin late and 2 by Williams early. He had that one fumble early in the game. I think he was open for nice runs on some of plays when he rolled our after handing off to Gaskin. On the long pass to Gesicki, the ball hit both of his hands.

Three drops by Williams and Gaskin, another if you count the long pass that hit Gesicki in both hands and was knocked out. I'd say incomplete assessment because he wasn't asked to do much. And with 2 first round picks in 2021, we need to know if he's the real deal before the draft. 

 
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa had the second lowest Week 8 passing grade from Pro Football Focus through Sunday's games. 

Only Jared Goff graded lower than Tua in his first pro start. The rookie completed 12-of-22 passes for 93 yards and one touchdown against the Rams. The low passing volume could be written off as game script related, as the Dolphins defense and special teams dominated LA all day. Tua wasn't asked to do much. He posted the day's third lowest adjusted completion percentage, which accounts for dropped passes, throw aways, spiked balls, batted passes, and passes where the quarterback is hit while he throws the ball. It was an incredibly shaky start for Tua masked by a superb overall team effort. Fantasy managers should only consider Tua as a last-ditch option in superflex leagues next week against Arizona.

Just in case folks miss what a true Phinsfan wrote in the team thread

Tua: 1st Pass and he is  Strip Sacked by Donald.

Rams get the ball at the 15 yard line after Miami helped Goff go incomplete on 3 straight pass attempts and forcing a punt, Tua helps the defense celebrate by turning it over inside of a couple play on offense and the Rams punch it in 7-0

I give those 7 by the Rams to Tua

-Next we managed to get a good return and start about midfield. Tua just needed to complete a couple passes or gain a couple first downs and we could have tried for a FG but we went 3 and OUT and that's unacceptable IMHO, that's another FG I take off for Miami. 

Tua cost Miami 10 points in the 1st Q and Miami is luckier than a State Lottery winner this morning with only 100 yards of offense on the entire day, they plain STUNK on offense. I've never seen a rookie QB look so bad. He deserves to be benched next week fo rFitzpatrick, I'm not joking and if Miami rolls him right back out there they are sending the wrong message. WOuld you let anybody on Defense take the field as a starter if they performed this poorly at their position?

I am sick to my stomach right now that we squandered a 1st on him and Austin Jackson while I am piling on. Tua has no business being the Miami starting QB Week 9 on the road in Arizona his rookie season, that's as plain and simple as I can make it. I don't give a #### about your Dynasty team honestly so please spare me if you didn't watch the game closely and are basing things on what you heard the "hot takes" crew start to unroll on TV today. He sucks right now and to allow him to start again next week seems like a bad move if they want to win the game. 

I'll be happy to hear what Phinsfans think but so far Tua is a Total "F" Grade

I've been accused of this many times in the Shark Pool, how do most of those disagreements usually turn out?

I understand this is going to be a tough pill to swallow, Miami thumps another NFC West team with a rookie under center and one of their biggest critics who also "says" he is a Miami fan bludgeons the rookie QB today but I have seen enough to know that he has no business being the starter come Sunday vs Arizona. 

Did you watch the Phins game this past week in real time?

 
It is not hard to find HOFers with horrible games in their first few starts.  And you can just as easy find "busts" who looked pretty darn good in one of their first few games.  The only thing that can be taken from this performance right now, is that it was his first career start. 

Here is a another QB in his second career start (his first wasn't anything significant either):  12-24, 86 yards, 0 TD, 0 Int, 3.58 yds/att, 4 sacks. 1 fumble.  His team lost by 20 and only produced 149 yards of offense in that game, so they probably could have used him to produce just a bit more and not just sit on a lead.  He wasn't even coming of a major injury either.  What a bust.  (Tom Brady)

 
Tua will be forever linked to Burrow and Herbert and that has gone about as wrong as it possibly could... for Tua. Those two are playing so lights out that Tua has no chance in getting a fair shake from the media unless he starts to impress right away (next week). He does not look ready to play to me, but I'll defer to the experts on that one.

Miami owning Texans 1st round pick in 2021 compounds things... Texas stinking it up so that pick could easily end up top 5 (maybe top 3)? Already hearing the media buzz that Miami needs to evaluate Tua as a possible "miss" that may need to be corrected in 2021 draft.

More pressure.

 
I didn't know the Texas pick was in play, because Tua starting over Fitz stinks to high heaven of not wanting to play for this year.

Agreed. I hate it. League is better when Fitz is playing. It's a fun factor thing, plus he earned it.

Miami on a different trajectory though. Gotta let it play out.

this was the scouting report coming out of Alabama.  

 
Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said Tua Tagovailoa needs more live action reps. 

The rookie struggled mightily in his first career start, completing 12 of 22 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown against the Rams. He received the second lowest Week 8 passing grade from Pro Football Focus. Gailey said Sunday's experience was "invaluable" for Tua, stressing that he would require more reps to improve his timing. Week 9 will see Tua go against the Cardinals' top-10 pass defense -- one that has allowed the seventh lowest completion rate to opposing passers. Gailey said the playbook would expand in Tua's coming starts, including more run-pass option play calls. Unlike Week 8, Miami won't be able to hide their inexperienced quarterback thanks to a big lead. Fantasy managers should avoid the rookie in all but the deepest superflex formats.

Agreed on the first point.

Good luck with the latter. Houston hasn't proven to be very good, so there's hope for that, but they still have a lot of good, somewhat veteran talent offensively.

If Gesicki had kept both hands on that long pass (where Tua looked him off first) and Williams or Gaskin had caught one of their drops, you might be singing a different tune. I'm optimistic about Tua. 

The Texans should beat the Jags twice, and possibly the Browns and Bengals. The Jets and Jags will be 1 & 2, and 2 of the NFC teams will be 3 & 4. I think 6 to 10 is the likely draft position for the Texans. Still a valuable pick.

And if Jay Fiedler were 6 foot 5 and Long never got injured and if they had figured out how to use Welker than trade him to the enemy...

Shoulda Woulda Coulda, the facts remain we own the #4 pick as of today and the Jets might notch a win vs the Pats just because of BB spite not wanting to see Trevor all the time. I'm just saying there are wild story arcs at play right now.

It's not just that play where Tua did well, the breakdown I posted earlier showed lots of good traits. But the verdict is still out. If Trevor or Fields is in play for our draft in 2022, we should consider them in the draft, unless Tua wows us. I'm optistimic.

When Houston beats Jacksonville this Sunday, it won't be the #4 pick anymore.

This article highlights the vast difference in the way actual NFL employees, in this case the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins sharing that in no way does he operate in the same way that others think he should or is with handling Tua. We the audience KNOW NOTHING and I am kind of saying that a little bit joking but honestly it's refreshing how different Flores is and has been form every other head coach we've had in the last 20+ seasons, he feels like the best we've seen since maybe Shula in being able to build from the ground up. 

I know this, what i saw of Tua was horrible, don't care what Baldy says, Orflawsky, Cowhurt or any of the other talking heads, they don't know because they aren''t here day to day in Miami. They don't really know the pulse of this team which is the manhandling and thrashing this defense has done on people the last 3 weeks, this is slowly becoming a hit squad the likes I haven't seen since living in Tampa '98 during Dungy years...anyone remember a game they played vs San Fran early on in Sapp and Lynch's careers? They manhandled and beat the Niners senseless without a lot of offense to help them. 

This defense is not anywhere close to that one and it isn't made up of guys we hand picked outside of Wilkins and perhaps Howard but he's been here for a while now. It just feels like media should be taking note of this defense which is looking more like a street gang or hit squad, it's refreshing.

I'll take Doug Marrone over Romeo Crennel any day of the week. 

I keep hearing how Houston is going win all these games, people are suggesting that they go 6-2 down the stretch and I'm not seeing that when they are or were in hot trade talks with kep pieces, they are going to have to go rebuild with an expensive QB, very hard mountain to climb. They squandered their opp to make a SB run when Watson was under a rookie deal. 

4-12 at best

His physical tools are fine. It’s his hip that is concerning. No one really knows how much it is affecting him but for a top 5 pick, that’s too steep for my liking

 
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports one of the reasons the Dolphins are starting Tua Tagovailoa over Ryan Fitzpatrick is so they can evaluate whether to draft a quarterback in 2021.

Coach Brian Flores has already tried to deflect this storyline, but Miami has Houston’s first and second round picks next spring.  With the Texans headed for a bottom-five finish, it would put the Dolphins in position to draft another quarterback if they didn't believe Tagovailoa was the future. It is still highly unlikely this turns into a Cardinals situation where the Dolphins are one and done with Tua, but it is never too early to begin evaluating your first-round quarterback, especially if they entered the league with a serious hip injury on their résumé. Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, and North Dakota’s Trey Lance are considered the top quarterbacks in 2021's draft class.

Looked much better today obviously. Made some big time throws under pressure when it really mattered. Decisive and accurate.  Used his legs as well. I’m thrilled to have him. 

 
He made some impressive plays with his legs today to escape some sacks. Good mobility and his throws were usually spot on. Had some weird issues throwing the ball away twice but nothing concerning. 

 
I said it in the game thread - he had some rookie mistakes that he'll get yelled at for in the film room today, but overall showed why he was a top draft pick.

 
Tua Tagovailoa will remain the Dolphins' starting quarterback after being benched in Week 11. 

Head coach Brian Flores pulled no punches in explaining why he yanked Tua for Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter. But Flores was clear there would be no wholesale changes to the team's QB spot in Week 12. Fitzpatrick after the team's loss to Denver said there would be "no controversy. This is his team. He's going to lead this team and continue to lead the team." The rookie completed 11-of-20 passes for 83 yards and one touchdown while taking six sacks against the Broncos. Tua has a fantastic Week 12 bounce back spot: he gets a Jets' defense that can't stop anyone.

I had circled this game as the toughest of what was supposed to be a fairly easy 4 game run for the Phins leading into December, Jets and Bengals(no Burrow now, very sad). You don't just show up in Denver and expect to win.

Miami was terrible along the OL and the running game had no rhythm at all. That's the game in a nutshell. 

Fitz put a FG up in the 4th Q, that's the facts. 

Fitz is not going to start but he should be the new Don Strock/Earl Morrell on this football team moving forward. I woulda liked him brought in even earlier like the entire 2nd Half. 

Miami's Defense did hold Denver to 20 points and that should be enough to win a game. Miami's offense did nothing to help their Defense all day long. 

What else do you want to know? I'm full of hot takes/air today.
