quality start - consistent players (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Last year I found a great article on players who are consistent week in and week out.

Has anyone seen an article like this for 2006.

Thanks

I haven't seen anything like this yet. Players that are that consistent are typically consistent from season to season as well. So I suppose one could go back and read last year's article again to refresh your memory.

The problem with this is that game-to-game consistency tends to be quite inconsistent from year to year.

Case in point, a few years back Marc Bulger was considered one of the most consistent players out there, and Shaun Alexander was considered one of the most inconsistent.

I would say that since CJ never has those huge games that other top WRs like TO/Smith/Moss do yet still puts up comparable numbers he's likely more consistent on a game to game basis.

However, here's a post ripped from FFC that might help you out (credit goes to bagobonez):

I have done some number crunching, and have come up with players' fantasy points scored on a game-by-game basis to show you how consistent each player is. That way if you like a guy who's consistent week to week, as opposed to a guy that scores 30 points one week and 5 points the next, this will help you out. It's also helpful if you believe how a player finishes teh season is an indicator of things to come for THIS season.

Not every player is listed, but most of the major players that can be expected to be drafted in the first several rounds are listed. Some players are not listed because they were injured for a significant portion of the year. PLayers are sorted by team. If a player has switched teams, you will find his name with his new team, but his numbers are based off last year's stats with his old team. An "X" instead of a number means the player didn't play that week. Numbers are based on teh following rules...

20 pass yards = 1 point

10 rush/rec yards = 1 point

Pass TD = 4 points

Rush/Rec TD = 6 points

Interception = -2 points

(didn't factor in fumbles lost)

If this thread is popular enough, maybe the mods can sticky it?

sweet post FreeBaGeL. That is exactly what I was looking for. I personally feel consistent players are how you win championships. Also the players who ended the year on a high note are players I target the following year.

good info, though i think Tony G's low #'s early had more to do with him blocking on the line more than priest being in the game.

There's little to no correlation between a player's consistency in weekly scoring when comparing his statistics between Year X and Year X+1.

Agreed if you get consistently good production. But I'll take a team of players who are inconsistent but average 12 ppg each over a team with a bunch of consistent 9 ppg players. You might not find as much inconsistency in a team composed of supposedly inconsistent players as you would expect. If one or two of the players comes through each week, the total points will be maintained consistently.

Sometimes, settling for consistency may make your team a contender each year but struggle in the playoffs. Ultimately, you've got to have the firepower, too.

The bottom line is that consistency is fairly unpredictable year to year and probably overrated.
