Question for Commishes RE: Double Headers (1 Viewer)

League Parameters:

12 teams

3 divisions of 4 teams

schedule - play your division twice and the rest of the league once.

13 week regular season

To accomplish this I have to set 1 double header week. In the past few years I've scheduled the double header at week 11 right after all the bye weeks.

2 owners out of the 12 have #####ed and moaned saying that there's too much at stake for that one double header week. That if you have 1 bad game it affects you too much.

I feel what the guy is saying...but I also see it the other way around too. One good week could put a team that was outside looking into the playoffs has a chance if they win both their games.

What do you guys think?

Same setup here and I run double headers on Week 10 with no complaints so far. Although it may suck running them on the last bye weeks, we have division games during weeks 1-3 and 11-13 so they aren't affected by bye weeks.

can't believe noone complains...talk about unfair....I gues they might know this when they draft so you are kind of covered there, but why not push it back a week....so they have a division and a non division game in the same week...what's the big deal.... we do it the exact same as the original poster.......there really is no other way unless you do it before the bye weeks start...it is a big swing that week, but everybody knows that before the draft and can plan accordingly......being able to sumbit a different lineup for each game can make some guys feel better.......some sites allow you to this

a complaint is also that we should play the double header in week 3 because most teams are still close to 100% health. My comeback is to tell that to the Brady, LT and Colston owners.

I think it's just one of those things...you either have a double header or you don't...doesn't matter much where it is...it's still 2 games anyway you look at it.

I raised the discussion in my 12 team league, and it was shot down quickly, for the reason that it costs too much for a bad week.

but it is good if you have a good week....whats the difference....everybody gets the same deal.....the nightmare it saves come playoff tiebreakers is so huge it is well worth any complaining

We have double headers in our 12 team league. We have 3 divisions of 4 and every week is a double header except the first week. So we have double headers every week from week 2 to week 13. This way you play the 3 other teams in your division 3 times and the other 8 teams twice. It is the only league I have played in like this, and it is usually my favorite league to track each Sunday.

They also have Burns in this league. If your team does not score 50 points it will cost you $5, and if you get beat by 50 points it costs you $5. If you have a really bad week during a double header, you could be adding $20 to the pot. Makes for a lot of fun things to watch and a lot of extra trash talking. :moneybag:

I agree, but with this league, any sort of significant change requires offseason ratification from the 75% of the owners, which won't happen. The tiebreak savings is perceived only to help the commish sort things out, and as none of them have to do it, it has less value, I guess.

I love double headers.

we use to have a season with some double header weeks mixed with singles games a week. but after kicking the topic around we agreed to just have double headers every week until playoff time.

it helps with the "luck factor" when you score the 2nd most and play the guy who scored the most. and you have a higher likelihood of watching MNF with something to root for.

12 team league.

3 divisions of 4 teams.

We play double headers every week. We use MFL and one of the preset schedules, but chop the final week (14) so that we can have playoffs in week 14, 15, and 16.

Never hear any complaints. Most like it quite a bit because they don't have to suffer their big weeks being a total loss. More often they go 1-1 for the week at worst.

one could also argue that it really isn't fair that some teams don't play each other....for instance in the non DH format, there was probably a team that didn't have to face the team with Brady last year while the 3 other teams in his division did.....might not seem like that big of a deal but if the other 3 teams lost to that Brady team they might say other wise.....I know one player does not make or break things usually but still....I would think I was lucky if I didn't have to up against him at all........

Why not just have 4 divisions of 3 teams each and not play a DH week at all?
We use 4 divisions of 3 teams as stated. You get to play your division twice and everyone else once within the 13 week time frame. We just moved to double headers on top of that and I love it.
