Question for Commissioners (1 Viewer)

Can you view proposed trades/pickups?

If there are trades proposed by members in your league to other members can you see the trades prior to them being accepted or rejected?

The reason I ask is because if you do, do you then go out and propose a trade for the same player?

The same with pickups, do you put in for the same player?

Not on CBS sportsline

That would be highly unethical. To answer your question, I personally do not. I know some software packages don't allow for excluding the Commish from seeing these things, or make it very complicated to do so. I encourage the owners in our league to use Instant Messaging or e-mail for trade negotiations. As to waivers, if you have a concern as an owner, you can do two things: (1) You can check when the Commish enters his waiver requests (they should be date/time stamped). If you see a consistent pattern of last minute bidding, you could have a concern (note, this doesn't mean the Commish is cheating, he might just be consistently entering his picks right before the deadline). Some leagues require the Commish to enter waiver wire bids before a certain time. I think this may unfairly disadvantage the Commish, but it could work.

(2) You can always put in your waiver bids at the last possible moment (i.e. before the waiver deadline closes). This makes it nearly impossible for anyone to cheat on waiver pick-ups, even if they tried.

Agreed. It's highly unethical, borderline cheating IMO. You're basically getting a leg up on everyone else with "insider knowledge" if you think about it.I know on MyFantastyLeague.com there's a Commissioner Lockout option, where if the Commish locks him/herself out, they can't view pending trade offers/waiver requests of other teams, unless he/she made them, if I remember correctly...

I assume I can't but I've never really tried because, like Red Apples stated, that's cheating.

BTW - mfl.com has a commish lockout option which I always use, but which the owners in the league have never asked me to use. I'll turn it off if an owner needs a hand with their starters or roster moves and can't access, but the site sends an e-mail to everyone in the league when i turn it off & thgen turn it back on again. As a commish, I really like the option.

Using the comnmish lockout is the only appropriate course of action. When mfl.com didn't have this option, I honestly can say that I never thought of trying to peek. Ever. Not once.

Do you guys cheat & look at other teams' proposed transactions to use that information for your own benefit, too?  Isn't it cool being able to do that?
Translated
Exactly.Anyone exhibiting that type of behavior should be the last person running a league especially if money is involved.

I know I still receive a fair amount of phone calls to handle transactions at the last minute. From time to time that involves FA moves and or trade confirmations/requests for or between other owners. I cannot imagine interceding last minute and saying hey, bob, that's a bad trade. How about I up the ante and you and I do business

Or

Just completely disregarding the request; not put it into the system or notify the other owner but act on the lead and make a trade for myself, while cutting everyone else out of the picture.

Completely unethical.
