Questions for Big Ben, Urlacher, LT (1 Viewer)

Chris Yandek

Footballguy
Hi guys. Tomorrow are the yearly NFL Conference Championship Conference Calls. I usually get in about 2-3 questions.

What do you guys most want to know from these players? I'll post full audio and write up in the coming days.

Hopefully I'll make all of them, but I have another interview I have to do in between all of them.

Best,

Chris

Big Ben:

How does it feel to have a defense like yours to help you out when the offense has trouble executing?

Could you give us some insight into the development of Mike Wallace (or Rashard Mendenhall)?

LT:

What's the difference in approach to sharing the load with Shonn Greene as opposed to being a workhorse in San Diego?

Do you notice any similarities/differences between Mark Sanchez development his second year to Philip Rivers second year starting?

Urlacher:

Could you compare this years defense to the defense that made the Super Bowl a few years ago?

I too, would like to learn more about the impact that Hines Ward has on all the young wr's. Wallace has developed to so much more than a flyer running go routes. He has shown himself to be complete. Rookies Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders exceeded expectations. I have to think Hines Ward and maybe Antwaan Randle El played a part into their development as more complete and physical wideouts. If u could ask for that kind of insight I would be interested.

Thanks for everyone that put stuff in. I'll try to get you some answers to some of these. I know there are a lot of dedicated, sharp football fans on this forum. Glad to do it.

LT: You are said to be one of the greatest to ever play your position and undoubtedly will be going to Canton one day. What would it mean to your career to finally play in a Super Bowl?

Urlacher:Could you compare this years defense to the defense that made the Super Bowl a few years ago?
He was asked this on local radio the other day, and essentially said this years defense is better than that one. "When you add a guy like Julius Peppers to your team, you are going to be a better football team"

And yet they really aren't. They're good, not great though. Secondary is kind of weak IMO.

C'mon MOP... you really didn't expect Urlacher to say the 2006 defense was better did you ? :D

Hey guys. I asked a few of the questions posted here for Big Ben and LT today. I will post the article with entire quotes and full audio tomorrow.

Glad to get the FBG forum involved.

It's the same secondary at two of the four spots (Tillman and Chris Harris - with Harris flipped). Jennings is probably at least a wash with Vasher (Vash was probably better in coverage, but Jennings is better vs. the run and a better tackler) and when Major Wright is healthy he is probably a better free than Manning was. The LB's are the same with Pisa > anyone in 2006 (again, when healthy). DLine is clearly better. You still have Harris (who, granted, is not playing like he did in '06), Idonije is playing very well - inside run stoppers AA and "T" (I aint even going to try to spell it), and of course the addition of Peppers.

Sorry, but I have to take this version of the defense.

Now, with offense was better is a much better argument :coffee:

Hey DG, I wish you guys the best of luck this weekend. It is 4-5 years later so the same guys are older...Urlacher now 10+ years in the league? Briggs? I'll take them in their prime a few years younger. No matter though, enjoy the game, it should be a dandy.

Not older...more experienced.

Roethlisberger: If I were an attractive female in a bathroom yelling no, what would you do to me?

LT & Urlacher: If I were an attractive female in a bathroom yelling no, what do you think Roethlisberger would do to me?

Geez the homerism around here knows no bounds. Next thing you are going to say is that they are better than the 85' Bears D.36 to the Pats and 34 to the Jets....you got to give the 06 D more respect than this.

First off, the homerism comment is pointless and silly as I obviously rooted for both teams. Secondly the '85 comment is also silly...not to mention blasphemous - that was one of the (if not THE) greatest defenses of ALL TIME. HTH.In terms of the numbers, the '06 team was slightly better against the pass, had 24 INTs (as opposed to 21 for '10) and allowed fewer points, but the '10 version is better against the run and has forced 15 fumbles as opposed to just 8 for the 2006 squad. The '06 squad has a very slight edge in sacks (40 to 34), so I'd give them the nod vs. pass. But the 2010 defense is still 4th in the NFL in points against, 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (2nd only to the Steelers) and created a few (4) more turnovers than the '06 defense.

While Briggs and Urlacher are obviously older than in '06, both are still playing at Pro Bowl levels and Peppers was a huge addition - and a Dline force they did not have in '06 - those extra sacks in '06 were largely scheme, this years are more front 4.

Now, in the upcoming game against the Packers, who rely so heavily on the pass, I'd probably rather have the '06 version, but overall, the '10 version forces teams to become one dimensional and can get pressure on the QB with just their front 4. A case can be made for the '06 defense, but I like the '10 version for all the reasons mentioned - better against the run, more turnovers and a front 4 that can get to the QB without having to send extra guys.
