Questions for Mike Sando - Seahawks Beat Writer (1 Viewer)

Mike Sando runs The best blog covering any professional team over at the Tacoma News-Tribune. He'll be talking to us right after watching an OTA. We'll be sure to ask him about Alexander's foot, the battle (?) between Hackett and Burleson for a starting spot among other things, but we're always interested in what y'all want to know.

Our tour of the league continues this week with beat writers for Bears, Bengals, and Jets. We'll be soliciting questions once the times are set. We are going to make every effort to get a beat writer from every team on this offseason. So far, we've covered the Bucs, Vikes, Chargers, and Lions. Thanks as always for tuning in!

How about old man Pollards prospects at TE for the Hawks?Id

how are the wrs looking, branch, hackett, burleson and courtney taylor
more specifically, people around these boards assume that Hackett is the #2 and may even emerge as the #1 as the season unfolds . . . I have also heard that Engram wants to challenge for the starting role again . . .how do you (Sando) think things will shake out ???

What does the right side of the OL look like at the moment and who does he think will be the eventual starters?

With the release of Kelly Herndon, what are the expectations on the Seahawks secondary?

Do you see the Hawks addressing any other positions this offseason through free agency? If so ... What positions?

I have heard the hawks have interest in Damion Woody? Any truth to that rumor?

Who has been the most impressive rookie thus far?

How will the safety situation will play out? Rotation, interchangeable safeties or traditional SS/FS roles, who plays most often in run support?

Are the Seahawks planning on adding some hybrid looks like every other team in the league?

I'd be interested on his take on the latest development in the DB situation, and what role he thinks Boulware may play going forward.

1. What is the status on Spencer's shoulder injury and his outlook for the 2007 season?

2. Who does he project as the starting offensive line and how will they fair?

3. Who will start at safety opposite of Deon Grant? Boulware or Russell?

4. What were the changes from the 2005 defense and the 2006 defense which caused the major decline? What do the coaches have planned for Leroy Hill this year? In 2005, he was a passrushing machie, but not so much in 2006, was this due to Julian Peterson having that role or was it in the play of Leroy Hill?

5. Comments on the 2007 Seahawks draft class and what he think of it.

Seneca Wallace. Has Greene developed enough that Wallace can be placed in harms way on the field and if so how?

I am curious about the youngsters on the O line. Tobeck/Spencer battle. Tubb's health and performance. And the setup of the secondary with a hopefully healthy Brown as well as the new S additions. And is Boulware going to be a liability this year or can he revert to Big Play Guy like his rookie season.

Also Ray Rhodes' involvement. I think the D has played better with Rhodes as an advisor, has that changed at all? I like the way Marshall runs Rhodes D better than Rhodes.

4. What were the changes from the 2005 defense and the 2006 defense which caused the major decline?
Marcus Tubbs
Heh. If only it were that simple. Both DEs were worse than they were in 2005, which isn't saying much. Nobody, and I mean nobody, could tackle consistently. The entire safety corps was ridiculously inconsistent in coverage and there was no consistent play at the second corner either.

What was the one thing that surprised you the most about the team this minicamp (e.g. a group, a player, a theme, an attitude, etc.)?

What is the funniest thing you've ever heard Mike Holmgren say to a player, a coach, or the media?

I read his blog almost everyday and sometimes post there so I think those will do.

Maybe it is - I know Sando would say there's more to it, but he seems to imply that Tubbs absence was a big factor, and brings the stats to back it up.
Interesting. I didn't mean to minimize Tubbs' absence. I'm in total agreement that the front four is the driving force of a good defense. I'm just skeptical that getting Tubbs back in the lineup will solve the other issues on the line and secondary. Maybe he can get Tatupu v2007 and the new safeties to tackle better than their 2006 counterparts. Thanks for the link.

One question I have is whether the 'Hawks think MoMo is the guy. Assuming he is not, when and how does he see them addressing the RB situation? Will they draft a RB next year to sit behind Alexander like Alexander sat behind Watters?

It pretty much is that simple. Tubbs kept the linemen off the LBs and allowed them to roam around and stop the run around the LOS rather than try to stop the RB 5 yards down the field when the RB gets going. It all starts up front and Tubbs' absense allowed teams to run at will for the most part which kept the defense off balance and allowed for big plays in the passing game. Seattle's defense will be MUCH improved this year. :pickle:

Look for Leonard Weaver to get some touches this year.

:bag: The more information about this situation the better!
