Rams at 49ers (1 Viewer)

Normally not a fan of ties, but neither team deserved to win that game.

Do they still congratulate each other good game??

49ers should feel fortunate with a tie
Really? They blew the easiest shot either team had to win in overtime. Akers has been struggling.
The first play in OT should have been the winner. Guy was lined up one foot behind where he should have. Then the OT FG by Zeurlein was negated by a delay of game. Rams had the game won trice before Akers' FG
The Rams made some terribly stupid plays, I agree. But after that Akers miss nobody in SF is feeling like they dodged a bullet.

No they didn't, the refs made the correct calls. Pull your head out. 49ers played horrible and were out coached against a very poor squad, I agree with the previous comment that nobody deserved to win.

I didn't say it was the wrong call, I meant the 49ers were lucky he lined up wrong.

NFL wants to be serious, they should make a rule any game that ends in a tie, the two teams involved are automatically eliminated from playoffs.

Ties are a disgrace to the NFL, The teams involved, and the fans. It means two teams suck, are playing boring, or both.

:lmao:So the team on defense with :01 left in the game should lie down and let the other team score, better off 9-1 and playoff eligible than the half-game better record 9-0-1 and ineligible. Genius.

rams had ball on 49 yard line when he went out of bounds wit .01 secomd left.then clock went to 0.st louis kicker could have tried a long field goal.but he would have made it and st louis would have won.vegas did not want that to happen

There should not have even been an overtime. The 49ers fumbled twice on their TD drive, recovering both, the first of which Gore picked up and gained 12 yards for a 1st down. Then Pead fumbled the kickoff return, 49ers recover, score again.3 fumbles, 49ers recover all 3, score 14 of their 24 points. Hey it happens... but fumble recoveries are one of the most random stats out there. Recovering all three is luck.

The Rams in OT were pathetic. Mental errors prevented two scores and a victory. When they got a delay of game on the 53 yard FG attempt, they deserved to lose. That simply cannot happen.

:goodposting:While I'd prefer they play til someone scores, just because two teams tie doesn't mean either or both of them suck. They may have today, but that's never even close to being the case most of the time. Agreed with Rams bring better than thought. A lot of talent on the team, much like SF, just needing a good coach to tie the room together, much like SF. Other than AZ, the NFCW teams are rising. Soon it will actually be fulfilling to have a win streak against the Rams.

I guess I saw it differently than some. The Rams are playing better under Fisher. They came into SF and almost won the game. They made their defense look pedestrian. They still need more coaching (maybe to un-learn bad habits) but it's a team that can show up and make plays.

The 49ers have a good, mobile QB in Kaepernick. Not sure he's "the answer" or better than Smith but he put them in position to win in OT. Chicago and Philly wish they had that kind of option if their starter goes down.

I know people hate ties but this wasn't an awful game. Both teams had a chance in OT but couldn't convert. The one play I thought was soft was Bradford's "sack" toward the end. He folded up and went down before there was even any pressure. You're 3-5, in OT against the division leader on the road. You need that game; be more aggressive.

The Rams were a half second delay of game away from winning the game. With as many mistakes that they made, that's impressive.

They were lucky they had to defend a formation with 6 eligible receivers instead of 5.

The formation and the 49er's defense of it had nothing to do with Amendola's catch, IMO. The 49ers were not going to take into account the Rams' left tackle as a receiver.Bonehead mistake on the Rams, correct call by the refs, lucky result for the 49ers.

I don't even see the need for a rule like this?! Who gives a crap if the offense has 2 or 10 men on the LOS? Seems pretty archaic to me considering the defense hasn't the same requirement.

Bradford wasn't escaping on that play. Why take a needless beating? Brady does this too. It's smart football, especially with all the concussions these days. I don't need my QB to prove his manhood by getting drilled.

Agreed. Sometimes, you know a play is dead in the water, and it is smarter to live to play another down instead of taking a needless hit on a dead play.

I don't think that they want receiers to get a running start. I am sure that others have better answers. The issue is that WRs KNOW the rules - i think that they are supposed to check with the refs (you often see them point to the sideline ref to ask them if they are properly aligned) - there is no excuse for messing up, especially IN OVERTIME where every play is critical.

Fisher's explanation for that inexplicable early timeout late in regulation:

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/81346/fisher-late-timeout-enabled-go-ahead-td

"At that point, I wanted a touchdown and we needed to talk about it. Had the clock running. Actually, we had a play called that we changed, and we changed to the touchdown play. So, no. You've got a backup quarterback [playing for the 49ers] and you've got a defense that, in a two-minute, that should win the drive, get the ball back."

1. You could have let the clock run down for 35-40 seconds and still talked about it.

2. Having confidence in your defense to stop an offense with a backup QB playing doesn't mean you just let them have an extra 35-40 seconds to try to tie it up.
