Ran a 10k in June (4 Viewers)

Since the thread on our name kinda died I figured it was time to pick something. The thread did result in some great ideas. I'm suggesting that all 10 of us in the thread here pick out 3 of their favorite names in the order that they like. We'll add it up and end up with a name. For my part, I like:1. The Shining Path of Bourbon2. Our Bourbon Overlords3. Look at me I'm Chasing Bourbon!
This

Yes, I know I picked 5 instead of 3 - the other two are just helpful suggestions. :lmao: Have to say, I really like The Shining Path of Bourbon. It is snappy and is pure FFA (and also makes sense ex-FFA). And we have something built in to decorate the vans with.

So please vote, guys, and we'll nail down our name!
I don't like that one at all. I wouldn't have known this "Shining Path" dude from Adam, and the whole "Tinky Winky" thing is just weird to me. I'd go with either "Point to the Bourbon," "Start Hiding Bourbon," or "Bourbon Cowboys."

Is there a way to incorporate the "Ran a 10K in June" into the name somehow? Just thinking of this thread title that somehow brought all the guys together. Just a thought.

Looking at a 23 mile week this week with tomorrow's 9 mile run, which will be my biggest mileage week on quite a while.

I thought about going out for 3-4 this afternoon, but I've been at 18-19 per week the last few weeks and a jump to 26-27 seems like too much. Am I overthinking it?

Great 14 miler yesterday, first 8 around 7:45 pace, then hit 3 miles on the trail which I barely maintained under 10s, walking portions over rocks and roots. Then finished the last 3 under 7:40 :(

this weather is AWESOME!

My personal guideline is to not increase mileage in any week or longest run by more than 20%. 26 would be a little more than I would suggest. That said, I've violated my guideline often including this week. Just depends on how you feel.

Anyone ever pull a glute muscle? I think it's a glute, at least, I'm not sure. It's a strange feeling; I think I tweaked it when running last Wednesday night. I've taken the entire week off from running, figured I'd give it some time to recover...and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I've tweaked my hip flexor before, and this feels somewhat similar, only slightly more painful and it doesn't seem to get better with time.Any suggestions?
This is a no, then? I gave it some good, long stretches and actually played a soccer game on Thursday night. It's been much better since.

Too cold to play outside today. So, I used Netflix for the first time and rented a cheesy action flick to make the time go by. Rode 32 miles while watching GI Joe, the Rise of Cobra with my son. Decided before the ride that I would crank up the gear and cadence during any action or fight scenes. Needless to say, there was little down time. I kinda liked the movie and loved the red head.

Prior to the ride I had to change a flat on my tri bike. My son came down the basement while I was changing the tire and asked if we could explode the old tube. SURE, why not. We tried just by pumping, but the small hole wouldn't allow it to pop. So, we taped the hole with duct tape. The thing got HUGE. My son was the voice of reason, letting me know we "need a containment chamber". With a cardboard wall and safety goggles on, we went back to work. The dang thing got about 6' around and about the thickness of a large salami. The explosion was epic. Massive pop and rubber everywhere. We were both on the floor laughing our asses off. No real point here, other than if you haven't tried this, do when you get the chance. It was fun to be a 42 year old kid.

I'd just listen to your body. If you feel good, go for it and take it at a slow pace. I don't think an extra 3-4mi run (slow) would kill ya. On a positive note - it's a good sign you're anxious and want to do extra. :lmao: ___________________After a crummy week fighting a cold, I am back at it and not feeling too bad. Did 3 yesterday and 5 today with 11 tomorrow for 22 on the week. Not what I was supposed to get (27), but happy I got as much as I did being sick for the better part of the week.Tomorrow is going to feel like a spring day after today's run. 18 and 'feels like' 8 today was not much fun. Tomorrow's 27 is looking great. Everything's relative

 :lmao: My goodness, that's funny. Oh, how the truth hurts.2Young, I can just picture the two of you in your laboratory, experimenting with the bike tire! Funny.

Steve Tasker, be careful with that groin muscle ...with many other muscles, it's generally easy enough to know how to stretch them back out, but the groin muscle isn't one that normally is part of a stretching routine. You might carefully try different movements to see if you can isolate the spot, then try to massage it some and gently stretch it. Does the muscle seem to tighten up after you've been sitting for a long while? If so, you'll probably want to be more conscious of that and try not to sit in the same position for too long (maybe even sit on the floor while watching TV so you can stretch and move it).

bentley, probably safer not to push it, but if you did (successfully) ...good for you!

FUBAR, great running! I did 8 miles today with 6 at 7:40/mile. Getting a bit tired of these single digit wind chills, but we're inching closer to February and some uptick in the temps.

Why is there a dynamite bundle on the table?I am off to do my 8 miles before it gets to warm here.
:goodposting: Its 14 right now - I'm waiting for it to get warm before I head out for 5.
I got my 8 in before it was in the 60s. It was in the 50s when I did the 8 and I then got a sunburn doing yard work and grilling in the backyard. It got up to 70 today. I am now drinking beer listening to the new lil wayne album.

Small update. Today was supposed to be a slow day, and it felt easy, but I managed 10k in 48:21. Not bad.

And today's run makes exactly 100 miles for the month. :lmao:

Thanks. It's weird because it's not quite the groin, but it's not the hip either. The muscle definitely tightens up after I'm sitting for a long period of time. It's been a bit better lately.I've pulled hip muscles before, and I know that simple rest is the best way to take care of those, so that's what I did here.

:finger:  Sunburn?!? Dang. But I suppose this is the point where I remember how much you suffer in the nasty summer heat. So ...enjoy! Good job on the 8 miles and a strong month.--Bourbon Chase: I'm fine with the new suggestion.

I ran a couple times on the Strip while in Vegas. I think I've mentioned it here before, but I love the 7 a.m. Vegas crowd. The combination of runners, drunken fratboys wandering around looking for their hotel, and eighty year olds that are hitting the slots and already on their fourth cigarette of the day is a fantastic one.

Obviously you're not single.

had a Bourbon Chase idea while running today -- BTFU (Bourbon the F Up)Just a thought.
 Kinda looks like a license plate abbreviation for Butt ####. Not so sure I want to be riding in vans across the back roads of Kentucky for 48 hours with 11 other guys being known as the Team Butt ####.

I can be so dense it pisses me off...... I learned a good lesson today, the hard way. One that, for some god aweful reason, I've refused to take seriously until today. FUEL

For the 2 long races I've done, I've really concentrated on carb loading beforehand (mainly each of 2 nights before). But for whatever reason, I don't put even a shred of thought into it for my long Sundays. I think I've gotten lucky for the most part, until today. Today's run was 11 slow miles. Overconfident, I went into it thinking I had this in the bag no problem. Hell I just crushed the 10mile race last week, right? :lmao: Today's run absolutely destroyed me. It took almost every ounce of energy to get myself home. I felt like I was nearly shuffling feet on the last mile. Now I know the 15-20mph winds with 12 degree wind chill didn't help much, but something was severly wrong today. The only thing I can attribute this to is fuel and maybe some lingering effects from being sick earlier this week.

So I'll be having a new Saturday night tradition with the kids going forward.... Pizza night! (my go to pre-race meal)

If your energy was that seriously low, I'd put my money on the lingering effects of the cold. Nevertheless, pizza night with the kids sounds good!!12 easy-paced miles for me today. Now on to a couple of big training weeks again ...hoping the weather cooperates.

I feel for you guys up north this weekend. It was 32 here this morning for my 3 miler and I though I was going to freeze.

The warmer weather is due back next week.

For some reason the Garmin didn't charge, so no time for the run. But it was nice and easy.

It was bad. Like I told my wife - this is what I thought the 20 would feel like. Not 11. You're probably right about the cold. Either way, my 4yr old is already asking when we're having a pizza party. :lmao:

Self serving update: Longest run ever for me today - 14 miles. :pickle: Considering my legs were actually pretty tired from yesterday it turned out pretty well - 8:38/mile with 910 ft. of climbing. Only stopped once when my MP3 ran out of battery. I'm evidently not adroit enough to run *and* stuff my headphones up under my hat.

Now - pretty darn sore and tired. Tomorrow is a complete day off. Catching a plane tonight to Cocoa Beach. My run weather looks like it will be ~60 and sunny all week. :P The plan is to put in 40 miles this week. We'll see how that goes.

Congrats on the 14!! And hilly to boot? You're gonna crush that HM...

Bourbon Chase Name:

1. I do like the "This Run is Useless without Bourbon"...Do you think that we should just shorten it to "Useless Without Bourbon". Only a thought.

2. Bourbon Cowboys

3. HTFU

I am with Grue on the Shining Path thing.

--------------------

My update. I did 5 good miles on Friday. I did 5 recovery miles on Saturday and I did 13 miles on Sunday. Sunday's run was interesting as I was running on snow again, but I definitely think I am getting stronger for it as I do not feel as sore today than usual. It was a little slower than I would have liked, but 7 of my miles were running up and down little hills on the snow. I will take what I did though as a good sign. I think I am back to the desire I had awhile ago. I was pretty beat yesterday before my run and did not want to go out, but did anyway and had a good run so for me, I am back to being a "runner" again.

One more thing to note. I have been listening to Tri-Man talk of lunges and strength for awhile now and have been wanting to give it a shot for a year or so. I started last week with the lunges. Last Wednesday, 50 lunges on each leg and yesterday was the first day I was not hurting because of them. What this told me was my legs are not as strong as I thought the were. The new plan is to do lunges 2 times per week and throw in some hills for good measure on Wednesdays.

Have a great day all.

Good job Sand! :bag:

Cue the banjo music.

45 mi outdoors on the bike yesterday. Probably my first outdoor ride since Sept. The bulk of the workout was 3x20 min intervals with 5 min recoveries in between sets. Average 20 mph on the nose with the recoveries worked in. Actually was feeling good and turned the 3rd set into a 25 min interval so I ended up with 1h 15min at 20 mph.

The worst part was that it was 40 degrees and I over dressed for the intervals. Ended up getting soaked in sweat which made for a very cold cool down ride home.

I like this one.
You know what? The more I think about it, the more I do, too.
:goodposting: Me likey = I'll 5th it! [i deleted Sand's 3rd and Darrin's "4th" vote" as they exceeded the number of quotes allowed]

 ironically, I am now single, and am also suffering through a pulled groin. More ironically, I'm pretty sure it was injured during an extra-curricular "workout." BnB: Averaging 20 is killing that workout. Overdressing on the bike is the suck, but unfortunately it's better than the alternative. Unlike dressing for a run, there is little margin for error.
