Ran a 10k in June (3 Viewers)

Got my first race of the season (3rd ever) on Sunday. I am very excited. Any tips? I remember getting gassed in the first mile last time out. Gonna try and pace myself a little better.
1. Win.2. Don't play with your penis when they are taking picks.

Another question...

Say as a hypothetical, that I ran a marathon in the fall and qualified for Boston. What year would get to run Boston? Also, how hard is it to actually get registered for the race even with a qualifying time? Do you still have to go through a lottery process?

:goodposting: 3. If you get aroused when you're applying the body glide, you're doing it wrong.

Thanks guys. I will post more details later, but basically my quads/hamstrings were tight from the get go and got worse right after Wellsley, but you guys definitely played a significant role in my decision to finish the race with whatever my legs would give me today, that and I kept on telling myself Jux and Gruecd was right behind me.P.S. I just knew the commentary on here regarding my blowup was going to be hilarious and it definitely didn't disappoint
LOL - Did you stop at Wesley for some luv?I was wondering if the elite woman had enough of a head start on you. I can't wrap my head around how fast you ran that first half.

Oh well. I felt good through the half, but around 14 or 15 I suddenly realized I was in trouble. I slowed some and tried to watch my HR but by 21 or so I was toast. Those hills killed me. Had to do the walk-run thing at the end. Classic Boston rookie mistake, I guess. I'm not too upset, though. The effort was there but my body just couldn't take it. I think I'll stay in the flatlands for the future. Nice experience, though. I'm glad I did it even if I didn't get the result I wanted.
Great effort man!

Depends, the cutoff is in fall sometime.Piece of cake to get in if you qualify with the new harder cutoffs.

Qualifiers have an 18-month window, so you can qualify in, say, late October'13 and be able to run Boston in April'15.

I hear that with the new standards, the slots take a number of days (weeks?) to fill up. It helps to exceed your qualifying time by 5 minutes since they stagger the registration times for a few different performance levels.

I'll be 35 this september...gotta run a 3:15. Wouldn't be easy but it's doable.

35-39 is a 3:10.

Congrats to the runners. Great job. I'm hoping to hear about my neighbor and another acquaintance who were running and were likely finishing some time close to when the explosions occurred. Can't watch the tv coverage. It's too grim.

well ####. When did that change? I looked it up kinda recently.

Video I'm seeing is finish time around 4:09 when the bomb goes off. Unless the fella's were hanging around the finish line they should all be good.

They weren't wave 1 though. They didn't start until at least 20 (wave 2) or 40 (wave 3) minutes after the clock started.

We have finishing times for them both, but Workhorse in particular might have still been within a block or two.

From a narrow sense, the BM finish is rather sacred ground to the running community. But more broadly, attacks on Boston on Patriots' Day really pisses me off. What the hell is wrong with people?

Most worried about Workhorse. He finished almost exactly 2:40pm and the blasts reportedly went off around 2:45pm
I'm confused. The video shows the 4:09 clock like Beer said so I assumed it happened at 2:09 p.m.

Edit: CNN article says about 2:50p.m. so that clock must have been for wave 3 clock or something. I only remember seeing clocks counting from the 10:00 start time.

From Wilked in the thread on the explosions.

FYI....

I finished about 10-15 mins before the explosions. Got my medal, just got my bag off the buses and heard two loud booms, everyone I was with commented 'sounds like cannons' and we all remarked that was very odd. Didn't think *too* much more about it. Walked over to the subway, next thing you know they were evacuating the subway, no explanation, went back up to the street and started to hear about it all...

Guys, I am ok...see the other thread for my experience. Gist of it is I heard the explosions while walking to the train, this whole thing very scary... Don't even want to talk about my race right now, so sick to my stomach from all of this.

Thanks to those following, it is really cool to see that

Workhorse finished at 2:39:51 PM, or about 9-10 minutes before the explosion... I would think they were still filtering him through the finish line buffet and gear check buses at that point and he would be at least 2-3 blocks from the finish at that point (and really hoping that any friends/family that he may have had with him left the area right after he finished and headed towards the reunion areas also 2-3 blocks away).

Guys, I'm ok. I had crossed the finish line, got my medal and was about a block and a half from the explosions. My wife and kids were directly between the two explosions on the same side of the street. We got VERY lucky today.

PS, I ran an awful race but none of that matters now. Just a horrible day.

To the guys there, thank you for checking in and I am glad you are all safe and sorry your day was impacted by this horrible event. I hate this.

Really glad to see you guys are alright. Sucks to have this happen, especially when you're there.

Hope all your friends are okay too.

I know Grue knew a lot of people running...would think they must be ok at this point given his posts on this so far? At least hoping that is the case.

First off, glad everyone in here is okay.

I know this is secondary but I really feel bad for all the people that trained their asses off and paid good money to come up for this race and got robbed of the BMW experience. Many didn't even get to finish. ####### terrorists.
