Ran a 10k in June (3 Viewers)

Tri-Man: doing the simulated hills, you worked the same muscles you have been working, but you worked them harder. Muscle pain = you broke them down = they'll get stronger as they heal :blackdot:

I started my 12 week schedule for my half marathon in March this morning. I ran a slow 5, and was ecstatic to have little to no calf pain. IF this thing is good to go, it will be my quickest (by far) comeback after a calf injury. I'll attribute it to the OxySox IF it is a full recovery. I'm coming off a very long weekend of hunting/partying (5 straight days of eating and drinking everything within my reach), so I need to get back at this before I join Gruecd and BnB as Clydesdales (NTTAWWT).

I'm in the market for new shoes again, and am contemplating getting Asics Kayano's instead of my normal Nimbus. If anyone has thoughts on the Nimbus, let me know.

I also have some pretty big news on the home front. Mrs. Liquors has been a stay at home mom for the most part for the past 8 years. She became a licensed massage therapist a year and a half ago, but decided not to pursue it as a career. After a major mid-life crisis this summer, she decided to pursue becoming a police officer (both of her brothers, and one of her sister in laws are po-po). Prior to this summer, the only other mention that she had of wanting to be a police officer was when she was 19, and we were first dating. Now, 18 years later, she just got offered a position with our local police force. She'll be having orientation the last 2 weeks of January, will go to the Academy for 3 months starting in February, prior to hitting the streets to catch bad-guys/gals. I couldn't be more proud of her, and it's been amazing watching her go after this. My running/training time might suffer a bit, but we'll figure that out as we move forward.

To top everything off with me, my youngest finally got a cast put on his leg yesterday. This was from two thursdays ago when he jumped off the couch and missed the cushions he was aiming for. Toddler's fracture in the tibia that barely showed up on the x-rays yesterday. It sucks, but he is fighting through it.
At that age they heal up so fast it is ridiculous. He'll be getting the cast off in, what, two weeks? It'll be a blip in your memory pretty soon.
Yes he gets it off on the 30th. He just does not sleep real well with the cast on. Not sure anyone will, but his challenges of keeping up with his big brother just got a bit harder. Not that it will stop him from trying.

Wow. That is quite a change. Congratulations to your wife (and your family) on a big career move. It's funny to think how different women/wives are. The thought of my wife as a police officer makes me pee in my pants with laughter. Good luck to you guys as you transition to a new lifestyle and schedule.

Liquors, agreed about the healing and benefit ...wanted to get input from the gang. Thanks! I've thought about those training tapes that were mentioned ..we'll see. Shoes: I actually went "down" to the Asics 2160 last year and love them - lighter, less restrictive. Wife: So now she can not only give you a massage, but she can wear her uniform while doing so and handcuff you first?

Had a good week of workouts. Only did 3.5 miles on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. I would really rather run my long run after a rest day but this week it was not possible. Today I was going for 4 miles and about 1 mile in this big yellow dog ran after me a bit barking at me. I had to stop and yell at it to get it to stop, bub I swear the damn thing growled at me.

Wraith, I can only only hope to be as fast as you are one day.

Dexter, great PR in the 5K. I love doing that.

This has fallen to page 3 (blasphemy). I have been pouring on the volume lately. Yesterday a good 2600 yd swim and an hour long interval session on the trainer. This morning a 5 mile run, 2.5 at 10:30/mile (running with a friend), and then ~7:05/mile on back 2.5.

Leg workout today and more bike/swim tomorrow. If all goes as planned I will hit 30 running miles this week.

Edit: I was super happy with the 7:10 pace coming back. This is in my "interval zone" and I was able to hold it for 2.5 miles even after the pretty hard bike work last night. I guess the hills on my regular course really do make that much of a difference. Funny enough I was aiming for 7:30-7:40. Woops. :goodposting:

Yeah, what the hell is that all about?! Get off your butts, people! :goodposting:I had a nice, cold run last night. Didn't get out until almost 8:30 PM, when the wind chills were pushing -15° F. Three layers on top, two on bottom, and I headed out with my new Smartwool socks and my new Gore-Tex mittens. Sidewalks were snowy/icy, so I ran on the edge of the road and hoped that people would see me and my bright yellow jacket. Ended up doing 7 miles at a nice 7:46 pace, and felt pretty good doing it.

My toes hurt.

Felt like I had my L shoe tied too tight Monday night but ignored it and kept running. By the end of the run I had some discomfort in my toes but not too bad. Killed me all day Tuesday but are a little better today. Hoping this isn't the new shoes causing problems.

I got off my butt for 5 miles today because the stretching really seems to help my knee. I did a couple of stretches before I ran and then took it easy for my run today. I ran at 9 minute pace and my knee held up pretty well. The second I got off the treadmill it started to feel like crap. It is really bad for a little bit, but right now (4 hours later) it feels fine. I may take a few weeks off from the impact of running and hit the arc machine for the next 2 weeks and see if I can get my knee pain free. I will start marathon training the last week of January, so I want to start things off with a healthy knee.

I'd head back to the store now. If you are having that much discomfort, thinking that running with it and breaking the shoe isn't going to work. Just as any good running specialty store should put you in the right shoe, they should also work with you to make sure it is right if what they put you in isn't working. I don't think over lacing was the cause, more likely a wrong fit. For whatever reason, I've gone up a 1/2 size in the last 2 pairs of running shoes I've bought. I even know someone that had to get a 1/2 size different between feet.Got my SportCount swim lap counter today. I am going to test drive it tonight and will report back. Just got back in to town from meeting this week and was going to skip the swim, but getting this HTFU'd me to not skip the day.

Third page again?!? I assume it's because there aren't a ton of races this time of year and many of us are just logging miles....that what I'm doing. However, my right knee has been bothering me the past two runs. I was hoping it would go away after a mile or two but it stays with me the whole run. So I've cut my mileage down to 3-5 miles/run. There's been no lingering soreness to I guess that's good.

Personal note: I'm moving to Madison, WI at the end of the year! I've lived in Green Bay my whole life so this is kind of a big deal for me. No job yet so I get to look forward to the whole job search process. Wish me luck!!!

Let me be the first - good luck!As for me, did 6 this morning in 53min flat or right at 8:50. That's the pace I hope to run the half in on Jan 17. Have a fast 4 planned tomorrow and 11 on Sunday. The weight loss has certainly slowed down lately. In the first 4 months of training I lost about 25 pounds. Now I just seem to maintain at about 190. I don't mind that weight, but I'd like to replace some of the fat with muscle. Once the 1/2 training is over, I plan to join a gym and start some lifting, cycling, and swimming and try my hand at a tri.

Too late! I already passed along my good-luck wishes in person at the Noodleini last month. Ha! Didn't run yesterday, but I just got back from the gym after doing a quick lunchtime 7-miler. I couldn't get out of bed this morning, and I have a client meeting tonight, so lunch was my only option. That being said, it's kinda nice to break up the day like that, and I feel totally energized right now. I think I'm going to start working that into my schedule a couple of times per week.

Tonight marks the start of the semi-finals of my FFB playoffs. I've got MJD tonight, and my opponent has Manning. Regardless, my fate rests entirely with my dynamic duo of Brady and Moss. Hoping for a big "bounce-back" game on Sunday against the Bills!

Good luck Keggers. I hope Madison is a nice fit for you.

gruecd - as i have been having a hard time getting up in the morning, I have been running during the afternoon at work. It does break up the day nicely and give me a little boost to finish my day. The last two days I have done 4 and 5 miles, but want to do more which for me means getting up early to do them. No questions asked.

My knee has been barking again this week and may need a little break, but I am seeing if I can push through it with Advil. Not the smartest thing, but I think it will go away eventually. I got up to run early this morning, but went back to bed and will be resting up today. Tomorrow morning I have to get up and do 5 as I am booked the rest of the day.

I did just that this morning. Met with a different person and had them reevaluate the fit and whether I truly needed such a strong motion control shoe. After tinkering around with a few things, he put me in a 1/2 size bigger and went from a D to a EE width. The shoes felt much better. We then went out to run in front of the store, and he confirmed that I definitely need the motion control. He said I naturally am a severe overpronator and don't need to go to a softer shoe.I hope the this solves the problem.

I'm actually going to start blocking out 11-1 on my calendar a couple of days/week. That way I can plan around it. Tomorrow I'm going to do basketball in the morning, run in the afternoon/evening combo workout. Then 15 miles on Saturday morning.

Actually I usually keep it on the first page during the week. My posting has been slacking a bit, sorry.I usually run on Thursday afternoon, nut our holiday luncheon was today and I ate a bit much. Right now I am just exhausted and ready for major sleep. I am hoping that everyone else has one of these days every once in a while, though I do feel a bot guilty. On Saturday I am going to go out and go as far as I can. Hopefully 11-12 miles, but I will take anywhere between 8-12. Tomorrow is my last day of work for two weeks. I plan to get a lot done around the house and get in more morning runs. I knew home ownership was a lot of work, I just didn't realize that it was so much fun.

 Great choice for a "next thing". I think you'll find it'll make you a better runner and also help with additional weight loss/muscle building as you'll get to add swimming or biking as X-training days in your running plan without adding the impact and pounding of running.

That's my thinking as well. I haven't really run into any boredom with the running, but I would think the variety of tri training will help keep me going.

I've got a gear review mostly for swimmers :lmao: but the SportCount lap counter/timer would be an excellent tool to time out and track speed work as well.

I bought the Chrono 100, mostly because I wanted the ability to pause and this was the only model with the option to pause. From a fit and comfort standpoint I barely noticed the thing. Like a dumb ###, I only skimmed the directions before swimming and had to fiddle with it a bit before I started my swim. Right away I noticed that not having to keep count of laps allowed me to focus more on form and technique (especially focusing on my left arm entry and extension). In the end, I ended up swimming about 200 more yards in the same time frame than I usually do and I credit it to being able to completely focus on form. Last nights swim felt more like an OWS as I could day dream, again without having to focus on counting. The feedback I received from the devise is very interesting too. I only did 2 sets, and the first lap of each set was my fastest, by far. However, every subsequent lap was within a couple of seconds of the others which tells be I've found a good pace. So far, so good with the timer and no buyer's remorse. I think I like even more in the spring and summer when I start doing OWS training. I do not like swimming with a watch.

Hey guys, a little football help if possible.

I finally made it back to the championship round of playoffs in my league and I have to decode which RB to start.

Scoring is 1 pt for 10 yds, 6 for TD, -2 for fumbles lost.

Chris Wells

Steven Jackson

Knowshon Moreno

Ricky Williams

I had been starting Williams and Jackson all year , but they have tough weeks this week.

If Buckhalter is out for Denver then Moreno may have a big day against Oakland.

Chris Welss is expected to perform well at Detroit also.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good to hear of the shoe adjustment, Third, and the new toy, 2Young. Hope all the little injuries filtering through the above posts work themselves out! Nice mileage, gruecd!

I'm taking Friday off for no good reason, except that I've been working really hard for a really long time and also it's the university's 'down' time between semesters. I'll hit the bike training hard and catch some runs, too (along with the yoga and strength work).

Any of the four could have a great day and Moreno should run all over Oakland. I think Wells is an excellent start too against my Lions  No only because of the Lions weak D, but also because of Hightower's bum hand and case of fumbleitis on Monday Night, Wells will be the man. With Fitz out or limited, they still have Breaston & Boldin, but may not need to pass with a big lead and will keep in on the ground.

I'd go with Moreno for sure, but it's basically a "pick 'em" among the other three. I guess I'd probably go with Beanie based on the match-up.

Went for an easy run yesterday to test the knee. I'm VERY happy to report that there was no pain at all! I simply took two days off. On those days I did some strength training and core workouts (I got away from doing those).

Set out to do 4 miles last night and ended up walking the final 3/4 mile because the new shoes were rubbing a blister on my L heel. Frustrating. I'm going to change socks and try again.

With a brand new pair of shoes, how long is too long to run in them right out of the box? How long should a normal "breaking-in" period be?

Honestly, new shoes don't require much of a "breaking-in" period anymore. I'd maybe do a couple of "shorter" (less than an hour) runs out of the box, then you should be good to go for whatever.Played hoops at 6 this morning, and it was a classic display of my trademark streakiness. I think I started out going 0-10, including a couple of airballs and one ball shot off the side of the backboard. Then I found my stroke and hit probably 15 of my next 20 shots. It was epic.Planning on 8 miles tonight after work, 15 tomorrow morning, and another 8 on Sunday. Working on building the base before "officially" starting my 12-week Boston training plan in January.Have a great weekend, everybody!!

Saw gruecd's reply and agree, little to no time. This is why I switched to the Brooks Glycerenes. They are out of the box comfortable. As for socks, look for a double walled synthetic sock. Prior to becoming an old man in compression socks, I really liked the Wright Sock brand.

Quick 3 miles which felt good. I took an easy pace. I SHOULD do a long run on sunday... We'll see what the weather is like.

An easy 8 for me earlier tonight at 8:01 pace. Hooking up with some friends from the running club for another 15 tomorrow morning.

Day 1ish of Boston Training or just for giggles? Sounds like a lot of miles so early on.
I decided that I'm going to do a 12-week training program for Boston instead of an 18-week plan, so I don't technically start training until mid-January. That being said, I did a 14-mile long run last Saturday, and I want to keep my base up around 50 miles/week. I'll max out around 70 miles during training.

10.2 miles today. It got real hard to move after 10 miles and I think it is because I am not feeling 100%. I probably should have skipped it and run it tomorrow, and I almost did, but I am not real smart. I almost quit after 8 miles but I laid a guilt trip on myself and got in the last 2 miles. When I got home I took a shower, then actually walked the 10 feet to th bed and passed out for 2 hours. Tomorrow I am going out for only 4 so I should be fine.

Just put the Tri-bike on the trainer and filled a couple of water bottles. Set up the poor man's picture in picture with a couple of TVs so I can watch the end of the Wings/Stars game and The Ironman World Championships recap coverage on NBC in an hour. After having to shovel snow this morning, it'll be nice to pretend I am racing across through the Lava Fields in Kona. (And work off the huge breakfast I made this morning).

eta, across the lava didn't look quite right.

2Young, I was with ya! My daughter ("Wee Wally") asked if anyone else joined us for the cyber ride and was disappointed to hear it was just you and I. I started the day with 30 reps running the stairs of the five story parking garage nearby and added 45 minutes of shoveling heavy, wet snow ...then the 90 minutes on the bike trainer. Again, stood up on the pedals during the commercial breaks. I also got in 60 minutes on the bike yesterday, and I'm planning on 2 hours tomorrow.

Darrin, way to gut it out. Gotta love those two hour naps! Mine was only 40 minutes today. :kicksrock:

 I know, I'd a thought we'd have more riders. I did the same during the commercials & had the trainer humming. It was funny, when they were showing the swim start, I jumped up by about 5 MPH. I wanted to be in that washing machine. Man I felt bad for the guy with cancer that just missed the swim cut off and even worse for Rudy. I swear, if the woman who had the stoke didn't finish, I may have tossed the remote through the TV screen. How about Mike Adamle? Dudes 60 and looks like he is about 35. I watched most of the webcast of the event live. Todays broadcast made it look like Leito just fell apart, which wasn't the case. He just couldn't hang on. Tomorrow, I am taking the kids to swim in the afternoon. Both are excited about next season and were going to work on technique.
