Ran a 10k in June (2 Viewers)

Too nice outside to ignore the weather (especially since I pulled out a TM run this morning since I had my daughter here)...wife home sick though...so in about a half hour when I get my son...back out for my first double...just throwing in some easy slow miles and will bring my son (7) with me for a very slow mile to see how he does.

I'm continue to be amazed at peoples generosity. My running store just kicked in a nice donation and they are a small one store shop.

Had a couple of good workouts today, despite less than 5 hours of broken sleep last night. Did an easy 5-mile recovery run this morning at 8:19/mile. Came back this afternoon with 9 miles including 4 tempo. Did 3 miles up, 4 tempo at 6:25, 6:18, 6:14, and 6:16 (average 6:18), and then 2 down. Overall average 7:17/mile.

Easy 8 tomorrow, 20 on Saturday (maybe including some MP miles), and then SRD on Sunday!

ETA: And Ryan Braun won his appeal! Go Brew Crew!!

Any suggestions for shake out miles? How many and at what pace? Any pick ups in there?
I keep it short 2-4 and go at recovery effort. I'd rather just get the juices flowing a bit and save the striders for race day warmups. This will probably be a wide spread response, but that's how I've been doing them.

I agree with the 2-4, but I usually do throw in a couple of strides just to wake the legs up a bit. But like you inferred, to each his own.

The girl was pretty surprised that when I sit my foot is a 6.5 and when I stand it is a 9.5.
wait... what?
I guess I have a high arch and when I stand my foot compresses that arch. I was sold shoes and an insole to support the arch. It sounded like she knew what she was doing and I saw it happen.

I am supposed to slowly break in these insoles. I walked woth them yesterday for a few hours. Today I went out and did a real slow 2.36 miles. My ankles and arches are sore. I was told to expect this as I break in the insoles.

Anyone here ever use these? http://www.superfeet.com/products/

I am hoping I did not buy snake oil.

Didn't get the double in today.

Was at the zoo most of the day with my daughter...then ended up walking to pick my son up from school (bout a mile to school) and then back.

Then out with them around the block several times as they rode their bikes.

Plus decided to move my 12 miler to tomorrow as we have alot on our plate Saturday and Sunday.

 Awesome that you are running for a good cause GB.

I'll second Grue's suggestion of strides. My second to the last run before marathon+ races was a 4 miler with 1 mile warmup, 1 mile at marathon pace, half mile very slow (marathon pace+ 2:00), half mile at 5k pace (to get the legs turning over) then 1 mile cool down. I loved doing this run which was usually the Tuesday pre-race.

For you? How about a nice easy 22 with 4,500 ft. climbing.
LMBO! What most of us expect from you. ___________________My update:Did an hour on the elliptical and a quick arms workout. More elliptical today and chest/back. Need to start incorporating more core work.

ughhh...mountain forecasts are forever changing.

As the event itself was just not tough enough, the weather has to have it's hand in things as well. You have my utmost respect my man. I picture you wearing an "S" under your running gear with a cape flapping in the wind you are running against. Best of luck to you.-----------Not sure I can rightfully follow that post up with my run today, but I was supposed to do 11 miles LT run with 6 in the middle at HMP. I have no idea at this point what my HMP should be, but I took it as a challenge to do the 6 middle miles in 7:45 per as I was going to try and run 8:00 for the upcoming marathon. After todays run, I am feeling really good. I was able to do the 6 middle miles betwee 7:30 and 7:45. I think I even went as low as 7:22 for one of them, but I have not had a chance to download the data yet. Condifence is soaring at this point, but I still not sure what pace I am going to shoot for during the race. Still plenty of time to figure it all out.Have a great weekend all.

As of yesterday the trails within the park had 2-4 inches of snow in the shaded sections with some ice. We did receive around .35 inches of rainfall overnight with a sleet/snow mix earlier in the day which may have lessened the snow amounts. Rain and snow forecasted for Friday evening through Saturday morning."

Just sounds nasty...GL BNB!!!

And not sure when, will have to look back at my log where I missed logging a couple of runs...but I went over 100 miles for the month earlier this week.

Good luck man, that looks pretty bad ###.

Good luck, BNB! Rooting for you!!
 Good luck Bud!! I love how insane this run and the conditions are and that it is you who is attempting. Make us proud soldier! My Update:

Just finished 55 minutes elliptical and a chest/back workout. During my 55 minutes on the ellipti their were three very different co-eds doing cardio work very near me. There was a:

a) Fitt'ish, but ever so slightly overweight tall girl, with large, likely fake melons in long spandex bottoms and sports bra on the treadmill.

b) A VERY fit girl, with awesome abs and tittle litties wearing a sports bra and spandex shorts on a different treadmill.

c) A spinner who was fit with perky sweater puppies wearing a singlet type tri-suit on an elliptical.

On a normal day, any one of them would have received my full stalking attention. What I learned in this micro, social scientific study is that the number of eyes :stalker: (a), were MUCH more than (b), and (b) much more than ©.

= A>>>>C>>>B

As a scientits (pun intended)I felt compelled to share my research results. Please note that the pic's used were only for informative purposes and were chosen as examples of the girls I saw, but were in no way the actual girls creeped on.

Bonus pic

20+ mph sustained winds with gust over 30mph

In my face on the 6 out....at my back on the 6 back in. Most of it on the greenway was pretty guarded from the wind, but some of the open spots just sucked in that wind.

Also made the awful error of forgetting the nips...was fine til around 10.5...started feeling them.

Got home and ouch...bit of blood on the surface and a major uncomfortable shower.

Good luck, BNB! Rooting for you!!

Just ...WOW.

Unspectatular 20-miler this morning, averaging 8:06 pace. Rather stiff WNW wind was a #####. 16 marathons in the books, and those 20-milers never seem to get any easier. Anyway, it's done. After tomorrow's scheduled 8-mile recovery run, I'll be at 57 miles for the week. Meh.

Im stoked about finally passing 100 miles for a month and you are meh'ing over a 57 mile week.:)Though, no offense, its refreshing to hear even you have that feeling about a 20 miler. Not that I have done one yet (just 16), but knowing its tough for everyone lets me know that even should I struggle...its ok, Im supposed to struggle with it.

Wind is a ##### no matter who you are. Doing a 20 in this wind is a kick ### effort.

Two strong workouts this week and a couple longer recovery runs (including tomorrow). Cold temp and those same strong winds here this a.m.

Midweek: 4 miles @ 7:05/mile with a solid negative split

Today: four 1-mile repeats - 6:44, 6:43, 6:40, 6:37

Target goal for the April 1st 5K is a 6:35 pace or so. I'll have (and need) another three week cycle of hard training before that race.

first trip to a running store and first official "running only" shoes. great experience. the guy that did the fitting was extremely helpful, offering training tips, encouragement and advice in addition to hooking me up with a great feeling pair of shoes. i'm fired up for 5 miles tomorrow (longest run of my life).

Go for it! Once you find a brand that is right for you, then you can always buy them on-line or at a store like Sports Authority. Let us know how the 5 miler goes.

ExcellentIt has been my experience that running people are very helpful and encouraging. Regardless of your experience in the sport. It is one of the many aspects that really draws me to it. Have fun tomorrow.

I am loving my new Brooks Ravenna. I hated my Asics. Are you saying I can now just buy Brooks on line? I am assuming they sell different styles and I would need to know which one, correct? For the record I also loved my first pair of Brooks so I do think I will stick with this brand from now on.

If you love what you have...stick with the same model or something similar (but if you switch to a different model...go somewhere and try it on...they do have a different fit and feel to them).I have heard good things about the Ravenna...have not tried them yet though.

Outta the clouds but still feel like I'm on a cloud. Race report and the Ned details on Monday.

Executive summary - Greatest race experience ever. Most beautiful course ever. Challenges from boulder fields, ice flows, -30 degree wind chills, creek crossings, wicked winds, snow bursts. Huge long range views, scenery like you're in the Canadian Mts. If you're a runner, this has to be on your bucket list. Sanded the first 5k. Gru'd and Tri'd the entire race. Beat my goal by about 1hr 45m. Got stronger in the second half and could have gone another 10 miles. Not just a little stronger, sub 9 min flat miles at the end. Felt alot of inspiration from the posters here from all the generous donations to JDRF...going to surpass $3k. That must have been the difference because nothing in training prepared me to do this.

More on Monday eve when I have some time and access to the data.

ETA - Family/girlfriend wanted to see me finish. She asked what my best possible time would be. I said anything less than 9 is not possible, closer to 10 would be my guess. I actually was so far in front of the that I got my finishing swag, made the mile trek to the start and relexed a few minutes before driving back near the finish, hiding my truck, and running the last mile again so they could see me finish. When I told they afterwards they got a huge kick out of it.
