Post race beer will be dependent on our kids (two under 4) but if they're cooperating, absolutely. My wife is running the half, so I'm sure she'll be thirsty too. Regardless of whether I join or not, based on your location I assume you're not from around here, Winking Lizard or Fisher's in Peninsula is what you want if you're looking for a place to cocktail.
Wives always appreciate it when you say "hang on, honey, I'm meeting a guy from the internet."

(But it is very cool to make those connections!)
Or maybe that conversation about driving 8 hours to meet up with 11 guys from the internet and stay with them for a couple days in a van?
Sounds kinda creepy when you put it this way (even leaving the part out about us all sleeping in a barn too).
...near the horses.

You guys are nuts. But if given the chance, love to meet you all.

Forecast for sunday is rain and 42 degrees at the start. That is going to feel quite cold. Should hopefully stop raining early. My brother is going to be at the halfway point with a change of clothes and shoes for me so I wont be drenched and freezing the whole time.

Debating putting velcro on the bib and my shirts so it is easy to change the bib over from one shirt to the next.

Can you pin your bib to your shorts? That's going to be way easier, unless you're changing your shorts too, but then you have more serious problems to contend with than how to handle your bib.

Mountain run to test the ankle. Little trail porn in there assuming the link works. Bummed that the only place to run around here is essentially the driveway but its better than nothing and it felt pretty good. Might go in search of a park around here tomorrow to explore.

Got out this morning for 8+ miles. Pretty cool as I was passing by kids waiting for their school buses I was getting waves and high fives. Some kids ran for about a block with me. I was eating it up, very Rockyish. :boxing: I know it sounds corny but I thought it was awesome.

I almost always attach my number to my shorts...then again, I run topless a lot. :bye:

Buy one of those race number belt things that triathletes wear. They should have them at your local running store. I use one for relays when I'm going to be changing clothes a lot.

This. And remember to use nip bandaids and body glide the rest.

Started out planning to go 5 at a recovery pace. Ended up doing 7.15 mile "triangle" around my neighborhood.

Purposely left my garmin at home so as to focus on feeling and not be tempted to look at times until later.

Each leg:

0 - 2.2 - 17:00 (2.2/7:44)

2.2 - 4.2 - 15:30 (2/7:45)

4.2 - 7.15 - 22:10 (2.95/7:31)

Total: 7.15/7:39

Got 9 in yesterday morning for my last run before this first week of fall break where I will be either running at night or on the treadmill.

Then a week at the beach for a bit of relaxation and running.

On a personal note...would appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers (if that is your thing) you can give.

My aunt has had 2 surgeries for glioblastoma (think that is what its called). A brain tumor. Removed once...grew back a few months later and was removed again. She is doing pretty well now and heading to Hawaii with her family.

Found out Thursday night that my dad has a tumor about the size of 2 golf balls on his brain as well as a possible mass in his bladder. He is going through a ton of tests with surgery taking place some time next week. Just would appreciate all the good positive thoughts he can get.

Thanks..don't know much at this point.

Also lots of good thoughts for my step mom. This is now 3 caring bridge sites she has set up in the last year (her sister with lung cancer, sister-in-law with brain tumors, and now my dad).

Ugh. T&P your way.

5K this morning. 22:18. That's slower than what I ran a few weeks ago, but it's actually a much better result because the conditions were pretty rotten. The temp was perfect (upper 30s), but 20 mph winds pretty much eliminated any chance of a PR and slowed the entire field down. I was pretty happy with my splits. Mile 1 was 7:01 and Mile 3 was 7:00 flat, but I lost all my time on Mile 2 (7:26) which was the into-the-wind segment of the course. All things considered, I'll take that, and I'm glad I didn't just blow off the event, which I had strongly considered doing last night knowing how windy it was going to be.

Nice job, Ivan! Even if the wind was at your back, your strong mile 3 is still certainly a confidence builder. I know you'll make your goal within a couple more tries.

Good news from my step mom...the mass on my dad's bladder was a false read. Enlarged prostate due to age.

Hopefully more good news in the coming weeks.

Max King, The 2:14 guy SFBayDuck mentioned earlier, is known to race topless. However, he pins his numbers to his nipples.

T&P from the 10K thread West Coast correspondent. Hang in there.

I haven't seen that, but he has been known to rock the Manpris. Or those just might be regular-people-sized compression shorts, as the dude is really short. Like 2Young short. No, really.

Yeah, but he's pretty dreamy. NTTAWWT?

My wife completed the couch to 5k program. :hifive:

Today we went to Fleet feet and I got her fit with some Brooks Adrenalines. They were 25% off as the new ones just came out. I am cautiously excited about this. I will say she looked pretty happy to be doing this. :pickle:

That is awesome.

My wife maintains she won't ever start...but every now and then I think I can get her at least into trying to walk/run a 5k.

Congrats. I hope she sticks with this. It's a lot easier to maintain your running regimen when both spouses are runners. Nobody ever gets on the other for getting up at 4:00 am to go out running, or for blowing their entire Saturday/Sunday morning for a long run. On rare occasions it sucks (my wife and I will never train for the same marathon ever again until our kids are out of the house), but overall it's great.

And of course it's nice if your wife is running because she'll be nice and trimmed down, which has its own independent advantages. :pickle:

Awesome. My wife talks about doing it, but so far she is happy doing zumba, which is great exercise too

That's awesome. My girlfriend will go on a hike with me here and there and enjoys the trails, but mostly she is in to "cross training" for exercise. No running for me today as I continue the taper, but we "cross trained" this morning.....twice. She's a big GameDay fan and I think Herbstreit gets her fired up. Hey, whatever works. :pickle:

And she's crewed for me at ultras, including working on my feet at mile 41. I think I'll keep her...at least through this Saturday ;)

Watching my wife test her hand at her first half marathon today. Of course it's pooring rain. Good luck, dear! Meanwhile don't mind me while I enjoy my Irish coffee.

It's funny that the fact it's fall and the weather has generally been pleasant, I didn't even bother looking at the forecast before running 16 miles of trails yesterday. So I got a little bit of a late start and didn't get to the park until 9:30AM because I got up with the baby...probably should have started this run 3 hours earlier. It was 85 degrees when I was done. Just miserable. Ended up being a high of 90 yesterday...where the hell did that come from??? I also might have ran it a bit faster than I should...averaged 8:15's.

This was half the 50K course...yesterday made me think...50K is really far. :scared:

Best of luck to Mrs. MAC. Be sure to let her know that a bunch of faceless guys from the internet are pulling for her.

Lol that rocks

Two weeks off of biking hurts. i was over 20 mph consistently, now I'm pushing to keep over 19. Doesn't seem like much, but with 40-60 miles, that's 6-9 minutes extra.

I'm not a runner and probably never will be, but Parasopholus wanted me to let you guys know about his progress. I'm getting text updates.

He hit 3.1mi at 00:30:53.

Then he hit 13.1mi at 2:06:55

Para just finished with an unofficial time of 4:43:17

Congrats, GB!
:headbang: :pickle:

Neat to hear about the significant others and their training, "training," and racing. Wish some of that would rub off on my wife, a true couch potato. Hang 10 - strong run in touch conditions! Great season you're having.

Nice 6 mile final tune-up in very pleasant, low-60's temps before next week's race- couple mile warm-up, then 2 miles out (8:01 pace, 144HR), 2 miles back (7:31 pace, 156 HR). Man, I hope I can start with a low HR next week and see where it takes me.

 to parasaur's report!
