gdb local HS tracks being locked

i'd hop fences but really don't feel like getting a ticket/harrassed/arrested
They'd no better than to try to ticket you. Do you think anyone would want to jump a fence and then try to run you down, as far into your training as you are :D ?
:penalty: i hope not. i've been meaning to call a few places to see if they people on their tracks. just have been too busy... literally. switched from sidewalk to street and that seems to have helped a bit. my legs are tired at the end.. but i'm not in the same kinda pain. of course that could be because i'm more used to jogging now, too. :pickle:

Anyone have suggestions for where to purchase a Garmin 305? Especially now that I have the bike I want to have the freedom of knowing my distance/pace without always traveling on the same paths. Plus Dash's analysis of his HR blows me away. I'd love to have anything close to that level of detail to my workout history! The price on Amazon looks pretty good (with the bike attachment), but maybe there's someplace else even cheaper?
If you don't need it yesterday, keep an eye out on Ebay. I got my 201 there for about half retail price (this couple bought it, then decided to get something else, so they were unloading the 201). People are stupid and will bid up each auction instead of moving on to the next auction and letting someone else have one for a steal, but occasionally a bargain will be missed. Be sure to watch out for the "bargains" that come with a hefty shipping charge tho.
I'm also in the market for a 305 for cycling because I'm wanting an integrated cyclocomputer and HRM. Looks like eBay is running about $10 cheaper than Amazon using the "buy it now" feature and default shipping options for new Edge 305's with HRM and cadence. As Roarin said, used is a totally different ball game.

As an owner of a 305, I could not recommend it more. It's ability to find reception is unbelievable. I had it in the mountains in Cali and found a signal even in heavily wooded areas, received perfect signal in downtown Vegas, and actually can get a signal while IN my house. For multi-sport people, you can actually switch from bike to run (or vice versa) and include Transition times, with just a push of a button. You can also program speed workouts, and download and instantly graph all of your workout data. I give it :football: :lmao:

The Green Bay high schools lock their tracks? I go to one of the Appleton schools, and I've only been there once, but it was open. If it's not open today, you'd better believe that I'm hopping the fence.

yeahthey didn't used to. my HS built a fence around there's about 10 years ago. been locked ever since. the other one close to me has been locked for as long as i can remember. :thumbup:i really don't want to drive far to find one that's not. when i start to get to the point where i'm not running timed distances, but rather 2-3 miles, i'm going to head over to the Fox River Trail i think. asphalt trail, marked distances on the pavement.

:hijack: Where in Appleton, and in what year did you graduate? I spent much of my Undergrad years there, as my main college squeeze was from there. I don't miss her, but I sure miss Cleo's

Like others have said, it's all relative. I ran 19:23 in a 5K last month, and it was a personal best. For others, that would be an embarassment. It just depends.
FWIW, my best 5K was an 18:08 (shamelessly boasting). But that was about 25 years ago (shamefully dating myself). With all my endurance focus nowadays, I'd be hardpressed to break 20 minutes, and that'd take a fair amount of track work to get ready. GB long legs.

Tri-Man/Culdeus, the odds of one of you getting my bike are still pretty good.
:yes!: That's some solid biking for having been away from the wheels for so long. It's great that you're still planning on the race. I'm sure you'll do better than you expect, given the choppy training over recent weeks.

Very nice trail. I've done a fair amount of running on that trail, particularly when I'm training for the GB Marathon. When I do run the trail, I usually meet up with the guys who get together early on Saturday mornings at Voyager Park in De Pere.

My bike ride last night (first one in 5 weeks!!) was pretty decent (= my race is on, for this weekend!). I had planned on riding 20 at an average pace of 20 mph. I was at 20.9 mph (ave) with 2.5 miles left and had a flat tire.
 Dude, that's moving....especially after a 5 week layoff.

I try to work out at Appleton North. I actually graduated HS in 1995 (not in Appleton), and then I got my undergrad from St. Norbert in De Pere in 1998.If you truly miss Cleo's, then I can only guess that you're quite a bit older than I am. The crowd there is a bit too "mature" for me.

  I've never raced a 5k outside of a sprint triathlon, but know I could never get near that time. My best at the end of a sprint it 21:05, which is about as fast as I could possibly go w/o swimming & biking first.

I got in the mid 17s in college. I was oh so close to cracking a 5 minute mile. Then my knee started to get the better of me. I sat out almost a year and then started up again thinking I could do better at 10k as even 17 isn't all that competitive in 5k, but my knee was even worse after the layoff. It just was never meant to be. Maybe I'll give it a go once I'm 100% from the surgery again, but probably not. Running is just too ####### boring. Why go 10mph when you can go 25?

5k last night, just missed breaking 28 (28:06 I believe the final tally was; 28:22 Sunday morning). Felt good, except for the stitch under my ribcage, and my right calf trying to cramp yet again. :kicksrock:

today:

run 8

walk 5

run 8

thought that running 8 would be absolute murder on the legs.. especially since the 5 minute runs have been a little rough. but i think a big part of it has been concentrating on the ending.. always thinking "2 more minutes" or some ####. counting my steps.

today i just ran and didn't look at the stopwatch or count steps.

the first 8 passed by no problem. at about 2 minutes in to the walking portion i wanted to start running again. i'm regaining my wind a lot more quickly now and not struggling at the end of the running as much.

2 mile run on Friday.

Seems fair to me, especially since Tri-Man is old school, and will have enough of an adjustment going to aero-bars, let alone worrying about carrying a GPS unit  ;) edited to add that somebody may need to show this thread to Mrs. Liquor, as she will probably want the 305 as well. She won't notice my bike's gone, but she'll get suspicious if I'm not wearing the Garmin.

Awesome Furley!! The added distance will get much easier with each step. Keep it up :(

i keep thinking to myself, this sucks a bit but it will only get easier.. and soon enough i'll be running for 60 minutes w/o problem

anyone recommend rest before my first 5k? like no running from wednesday until a saturday race? something like that?

I have a 5K on Saturday, and won't run again until then, and only put in a few easy miles tonight.Oh, and why are you counting your steps. That's insane. Get an iPod or something before you drive yourself crazy.

I always take off the two days before a race. Gotta make sure the legs are fresh.

:yawn:at first it was only so that i could try to measure distance. see if running 60 seconds = walking 90. it turned out to be almost the same # of paces. then i measured total distance ran/walked and divided in half to find out how far i went.from there it just became a way to keep my ADD occupied.i've got an iPod that was given to me. it's old(er) but it works. just haven't hooked it up yet.

This will save your mind while running. It is very easy to get caught up in the how fast am I going? How much further? I put all of the Celebrity Jeopardys from SNL on there and it makes the time go by very quickly on long runs since each episode is at least 5 minutes.

Yeah, most of the training programs will tell you not to run the two days prior to the race. I'm a little bit different, I guess, in that I'll generally rest the 2nd day prior to the race, but then I'll do a 2- or 3-mile easy run the day before (with a couple of strides to remind my legs what the faster turnover feels like). Also, make sure you get a good night's sleep the Thursday night before a Saturday race, and drink extra water in the week prior.

welcome to the club. i'll be 32 in October.

I've got my weekly speed workout scheduled for this afternoon. 7 miles including 3x1600 at about 6:20 pace with 800m jogs in between. Not exactly looking forward to it, but at least I live close to a new high school with an awesome track, and the high temp for today is 75 degrees.
Track workout didn't happen. Of course, the track was locked, and there were too many people mingling around for me to scale the fence. Ended up turning into 4.25 miles of fartlek (one of the best words ever), which was OK, I guess. This morning the weather was great--cool with temps in the 50s. I was planning on running 7-8 miles, but my legs were so heavy that I cut it off at 6. I guess I should've known better when I logged 40 miles last week after doing only 30 the week prior. Should've followed the old rule of thumb of 10% increase in miles per week. I think I'll scale back the 11-mile long run I've got scheduled for Saturday and do 5-6 miles instead, plus I'll drink some extra water over the next few days, and hopefully that will help get some of the "gunk" out of my legs.

I'm 30, and my wife is 28. Our problem is that all the local bars cater to either the 40- and 50-year-olds or else the 21-year-olds. I think I need to open a place for us young professionals to hang out....

Fart leakage usually speeds up my pace to the finish line.Ran my 5K loop in 28:40 yesterday, about a minute improvement. Big difference was the new mp3 player. Oh, and for you cheap bassturds, you can download music off of youtube and convert it to mp3 format at no cost.

was planning on running another 5k last night, but yesterday morning I smashed the fingers of my right hand in our garage door...was real close to passing out with the kids already buckled down in the running car...anyways, figured I'd still be able to get in the run since it was only my hand that hurt, but the arm/hand movements while running was a killer...only managed to make it around the block...

might try it again tonight

 Sorry that happened - I'm trying to picture how something like that happens...

Ran my fastest 4 miler EVAH this morning - 28:33, 7:08 pace. Ran it as a fartlek run and really pushed the pace throughout. I took 40 seconds off my PR from two months ago. Amazing the difference 70 and breezy makes!

It's a church race, so no timing chips or anything, but I'll still be going for a PR. My training runs have been a drag lately, though, so I'm not sure how I'll be feeling on Saturday.

Good luck, run well. And don't forget the updates.Us people without races for two months have to live vicariously through others for now.

For some reason since I started running I have been keeping a vanity wall.

My friends think I am nuts. Of course I do have 20x30 and a 16x20 pictures of me running on other walls of my computer room.

Do these pics and framed numbers mean I am too full of myself?

Nope, it means you are proud of yourself and you should be. My wife and I have a wall of B&W photos that inculde a ton of family photos, but is dominated by our race photos of late. We started running races together 5 or 6 years ago and have about 15 photos, including my brother-in-law and I in the Santa suits we wore running the Detroit Turkey Trot in '05. I think everyone runs for some reason, like you, and this is a great reminder of what you have accomplished.

I'll be honest and say yes. Sure, you should be proud of all that you've accomplished, but I've read through this thread and you also seem to have a need for validation from others. Be proud of what you've accomplished but remember that you really don't need others to tell you "good job" in order to be successful.
I don't really post here for validation, and I don't put up the pics and other stuff because I am vain. I do both things to remind myself how hard I have worked over the last year and a half to get to this point. It would be so easy for me to go back to my old habits. I started my blog for this reason, but it is more interesting to converse with others. I actually only got the big pictures because they were free through the coke rewards program ( I am a coke zero junkie). Otherwise I would not have them at all.Ok, I have gotten a little vain, but no more than anyone else. And it is much better than the way I used to feel about myself.
