I've had a couple guys reach out about the Bourbon Chase relay, so here's where we're at. Dates are October 4-5, 2024. It's about 200 miles total from Clermont to Lexington, KY. It's a 12-person team, so for the math-challenged, that's an average of 16-17 miles per person, split up into three legs.

Cost is $1,920/team plus a ridiculous 9.75% transaction fee. I don't know why they just don't charge $2,108. Anyway, roughly $175 per person, plus your share of the vans, gas, food, etc.

So far we've got one van full:

Van 1
1. Me
2. Mrs. Gruecd
3. @gianmarco
4. Mrs. Gianmarco
5. My friend, Chris
6. Gianmarco's friend, Clayton

Still need 6 commitments for Van #2 if we're gonna make this happen. Speak now or forever hold your peace...
If Clayton’s going, I’m out.

Looks awesome. We’ll be at the beach that weekend.

I won't be able to commit til ~June. Saw a specialist about all of my various ailments today. Diet withstanding she confirmed I'm doing all the right things to try to get right, but it's all a matter how my body responds to increased activity in spring. Flexibility is the key and as my lateral movements demonstrated today I have a looooong ways to go. The kids are entertained watching me try to yoga though

As much as I'd like to go, I'm going to have to pass. My oldest starts college in the Fall and I'll have to cut back on some of my running trips. It is a great event and if anyone is on the fence I recommend participating.

Sorry I haven't been active here, but I'm training with my goal race for the spring a 5k in March. I raced a 8 miler on Sunday, it was my 2nd slowest time on the course but course conditions were less than ideal with much of the path being covered with snow/ice. Finished 2nd overall, despite racing in pants for the first time and stopping to tie my shoe twice.
Well la-di-da...

And to confirm: the BC doesn't work for me, given plans for an October marathon. Sorry!

Same for me regarding the BC. October marathon (and hopefully BQ) takes priority.

You know it's sad when your new Garmin watch has recalculated your goal of steps per day and it just congratulated you for reaching 3500 steps...

Now I don't wear it 24/7, but I definitely have not been as active the last week or so

I haven’t reached my step goal in a couple weeks. 🥶

Greeting from a rainy snow melting day. I have not been out in approximately 2 weeks shame on me.

I have a back doctor appointment in 2 weeks for this extreme pain I have

This was pretty much a MAF walk

4 mile 70:25 17:36 pace, avg 118bpm

Zone 3 7:33 10%
MAF 56:32 80%
Zone 1 6:20 8%

I ran today!

For the last few weeks, OK, maybe two months or more I've been acting my age although there's really nothing wrong with that but I just don't like to do it so anyway, I feel young again I mean, not @JShare87 young but more like the rest of you guys kind of young give or take an extra ten or fifteen years or so. A big problem was bursitis in my hip not both hips just the right one and I think maybe that's an old person issue because I never heard of any young people getting that and it was actually the old, well, even older lady next door that said in her Hungarian accent 'you might have hip bursitis so mayve you should check it out' which I didn't but I'm sure that's what it was and now I think it's better although another issue was lower back pain from doing a lot of shoveling of heavy wet snow though I use a snow blower that the babushka and her husvand gave me because they really are old and can't use it any more but even the snow blower doesn't do well with the stuff that piles up along the street after the plows come through again and again as you guys know I mean, not @JShare87 who lives in hurricane land, but you guys know so that heavy stuff with the street salt needs to be shoveled and I don't just do mine but I help with babushka too and she says 'Deeck, you are an angel' and isn't that so nice? But I did strain my back and it made me walk like an old man for two weeks especially after standing up from a chair but it's better now and with all that I had a lot of sinus congestion and have used up my snot allowance for 2024 already even though I don't know how the body produces that much mucus so anyway now I have to see if my running gets back up to speed (ha!) over the next few weeks which I hope it does because I have big plans later this year.

If it makes you feel any younger, please be aware that the first running injury I ever went to the doctor about was hip bursitis. That was back in 2010, I think. I was young then.

For some reason, the infamous piriformis stretch seems to help it for me and I use it to keep flare ups minor when they happen. I don’t think that makes a lot of sense other than the idea that injuries are often a symptom of issues in other areas that create a chain reaction. I didn’t mention this before because what caused it in me probably isn’t what caused it in you.

Anyway, I hope your 2024 takes a better turn on the injury/illness front!

Fixed.

Had a blast directing parking for the local trail 50k this morning. It’s 🌧️ Big Time this morning, they’re definitely earning the name of the race - mountain mist. I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures of muddy runners.
Now to get my workout.

Week 1 of my HM training cycle and I've decided I hate running :lmao:

Stupid weather is forcing me inside, when I'm outside it's soppy and super windy, and I'm apparently way out of shape for anything fast. Here we go again :boxing:

Got into the BK half this past week. Race is May 18th and going to start formal training schedule after I return from Telluride ski trip on March 23rd. Before then will try to keep up decent workout pace with a couple of 5k runs a week depending on weather as I don’t like to run when it is in 30s.

Well, now I'm sick. Ive felt run down for multiple days, but just chalked it up to life. Good news is that likely explains why my last couple hard runs have been terrible and my ridiculous sweating in the cold.

:hifive:
When’s your race?
I’m supposed to be in week 2. I’ve ran once in 2 weeks. 🤷‍♂️

:lmao:

Mines on 4/27.

Let's get er done :hifive:
My HM is 4/28.

As I mentioned, I'm trying out one the Garmin plans. Yesterday was a speed day and it called for 6 repeats of 6:00-6:15/mi for 60 seconds (okay, sure) followed by 6 repeats at 5:00/mi pace for 30 seconds?!? Uh, say what Jack? Seemed unlikely, but I gave it a go. Can confirm cannot hold that pace for 30 seconds :lmao:

Hello sports fans. Olympic trials weekend is nigh and here is your primer for Saturday. Put that Peacock sub to use at 10a est or NBC at noon.

Just paid for parking in a garage right next to the finish line. Anyone going?
I wanted to go, but can't swing it with Tokyo and London this spring.

I'll be watching at noon! :-)

Those hard striders are a solid workout, though. But the 5:00/mi pacing sounds like a little much!

Yeah, so far I like what it seems like the plan is trying to do, but I think the algorithm for selecting the paces is a little wonky. I'm supposed to run 10 minutes tomorrow at slightly faster than my 5K PR pace - not really looking forward to that.

Morning race fans. Would love to be there but wife beat me to the travel punch and is away for the weekend.
Temps 50s into 60s coming in Orlando for the trials racers. Was supposed to be a noon start for TV 🙃 purposes but moved earlier to 10a.
I’d like to see Albertson and Fauble make the team. They have competed at the front of majors and appear fit and healthy. Hope they have great days. One of the young guys like Mantz has the fastest US men’s finish time and from that perspective is probably favorite. Rupp I don’t recall seeing in recent majors but he could have been mauling HMs. Couple track and HM guys coming to the marathon along with the stakes and temps will make this 🔥

Women’s side Sisson is the record holder and fav and her and D’Amato would be great. Some shorter distance racers going for the team here too. Jenny Simpson a 1500m Olympian racing her first marathon could be 👀

More on the debut racers here

Way better primers here. Siedel is out unfortunately

Mantz now appears to have a straw in a water bottle. Wtf - may be brilliant
Sisson looks particularly like she is fit and on cruise control.
The side by side of the packs is cool, men get their knees noticeably higher.
Mantz knees highest on men’s side

Fauble stopped for something and 30 seconds back of pack. Now dropped.
Announcer with the captain obvious statement “this is going to go right to the finish”

Women’s pack has some new names to me flexing up front
Also, many elites run without sunglasses. I could never.

Through 14 miles, the men are on Olympic Standard pace.
Estimated finished for the front group is currently 2:08:04.

Projected finish for women 11 miles in is 2:22:53.

Men’s clear breakaway of 4-5 starting loop 3. They are sub 2:08 pace - team is coming from this group
Panning, Mantz, Young, longhair Copley, Kibet
And 3 emerge with surge at 19 miles. Just like I would have done 😎
Mantz and Young training partners is crazy. Really want Panning to stick in top 3 he’s done all the work up front

Women’s pack thinned to about 7. D’Amato out the back.
And first marathon racer O’Keefe makes a break at 17 👀
Sisson world class 10k runner in the mix and probably loves the company in this heat.

Top 3 men wearing shades.
BYU crew trying to leave Panning, a Hansons Brooks runner who probably has completed the Hansons HM plan.

Panning dropped to 3rd. 2.5 miles of utter hell coming to try to earn that 3rd Olympic spot.

Clayton Young (checks research) is the fastest dude named Clayton.
He looks mellow. Hat went from front to backwards to tossed.

3rd place Panning has about 20 seconds on chaser. 😬
Welp. There goes Kibet. Damn.

OKeefe smashing the pack at 20 to run away. Looks like a race for 3rd with Sisson solidly in 2nd

Women with 5k to go. Drama coming for 3rd. O’keefe looks so good with turnover I dont think she fades.
Yea she is wearing sunglasses.

3rd place stretching out with a mile to go. Not gonna catch her.
O’Keefe wins in debut at the distance and looks to be real deal. Sisson 2nd. Dakota from Minnesota stays solid for the 3rd spot.

Great races/finishes for both men and women. Storylines across the board will make for some fun reads and lead ups to the Olympics 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Enjoyed the races.

A few thoughts....

I agree. No idea how they dont all wear sunglasses.Isn't squinting using energy?

Badass performance by Fiona. She is tiny....smaller than everyone else in that lead pack at the 10 mile mark. She was in definite pain for the last 5K. But she is tough AF and just crushed the finish.

Was really rooting for Panning. He did so much work during the race. Wish he had finished third.

Big fan of Clayton Young. He helped his teammate to finish with him, high fiving the crowd, let Mantz finish first and then gave big kudos to Panning in post-race interview. Class act.

Looking forward to Paris!

From the races exploits and lows seen yesterday we see a shining example of just how different some runners really are…
