Ran a 10k - Official Thread (3 Viewers)

Could be, or with the conditions he decided to take it slower as he mentioned he might.  I'm still hopeful that he's got some reserve ready to unleash for a fast finish.
He's got Boston in a couple of weeks.  If he throttles down he could be well set up to go for sub 3 there.  If the weather and wind cooperates, there's a good time out there for him.

@Juxtatarot in at 2:55:37!!! PR!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

Congrats, @Juxtatarot!
And he did it with a 2 min positive split if the mats were accurately placed.  Course layout and wind also come into play.

I read that's the case about 50% of the time.  I'm still looking for someone to explain why that's now a viable strategy.  Sometimes that's what the course or your body gives you and it doesn't make sense to fight it IMO.

Congrats @Juxtatarot

@gruecd in at 3:07:07.  PR not in the cards today but hopefully by design (so that Boston can be crushed).  I would seriously give a testicle (maybe both, but I have to see where my wife hid them) for a time like this.  Great work, @gruecd!!!

I would argue the opposite.  He's amazing fast for a guy his size.  We're talking a 2:15 marathoner if he was the size of most elites.  Chew on that for a minute.  He's too good to be happy with just finishing races.  He's not good enough due to his size to be competitive to race for hardware in decent size events.  Given that he's borderline elite when you weight adjust, there's not much low hanging fruit left.  He's left with competing against himself and is in the territory where conditions are going to impact his time much more than they would most people.  Personally I think that's a tough place to be.  It's kind of nice to be happy finishing an event and honestly being happy about it.  It nice knowing that your PRs have minutes of time that can be chipped away at, not seconds.  While you would give a testicle to run his time, he would probably give a testicle to feel the sense of accomplishment many of us do when when finishing an event.  He's in a different stratosphere in this sport than everyone here except for SteveC.  While I'm happy for him, I also can feel him.

Positive split wasn't on purpose!

Looking forward to the race report.  Weren't you on a 2:52 pace?  When you say not on purpose, were your targeting a 2:52 or did you just get out faster than anticipated?

Amazing and successful race regardless how you got there.

Decided to extend my hotel reservations for tonight so I don’t have to DRIVE back today!
Well if you're looking for a place to eat one of my favourite restaurants is in Noblesville.  Chuy's.  Cheap, gigantic heaps of Tex-Mex.

Come to think of it I think they just built a couple in Chicago, too.  But anyway.  It's good.

Glad you guys didn't bail because of the weather.  Some great results posted today.  Even if the weather did have a significant negative impact, you kicked it's butt and can look forward to a future event in better conditions.

Knew already after 8-9 miles that it wasn't gonna be my day. No real explanation WHY, but it was pretty obvious. Definitely disappointing finishing 10+ minutes behind goal, and I feel like I just wasted 3 solid months of training, but I guess they can't all be good days.

I was smart enough to back off. I'm just pissed that I had to.
Sorry for the disappointment :(

Fuel for Boston and beyond. Insane the talent you have that today's result is something to be pissed about. Can't wait to see how you respond.

Chin up, GB!
