Could be, or with the conditions he decided to take it slower as he mentioned he might. I'm still hopeful that he's got some reserve ready to unleash for a fast finish.Unfortunately it looks like he’s hurting.
He's got Boston in a couple of weeks. If he throttles down he could be well set up to go for sub 3 there. If the weather and wind cooperates, there's a good time out there for him.Could be, or with the conditions he decided to take it slower as he mentioned he might. I'm still hopeful that he's got some reserve ready to unleash for a fast finish.
Glad to see him bank some time. That gives allows him to slow 8 secs / mi and still be in good position to reach his goal.@ChiefD just smoked through the halfway point, 1:58:20. Like a boss.
Congrats on the PR.
He did post that there were two beet juice shots consumed. Screw training. I'm just going to drink a gallon of that #### before every race.He beet his PR?
Yeah I think he beet it, athlinks has his best at 2:56:51.He beet his PR?
Yup, his Strava lists the same.Yeah I think he beet it, athlinks has his best at 2:56:51.
And he did it with a 2 min positive split if the mats were accurately placed. Course layout and wind also come into play.
19.65 would be 3 hours to be on pace for a 4 hours finish. He's got about 1:45 in the bank giving him a big cushion.@ChiefD through 20mi in 3:01:13. Still on track for <4.
I would argue the opposite. He's amazing fast for a guy his size. We're talking a 2:15 marathoner if he was the size of most elites. Chew on that for a minute. He's too good to be happy with just finishing races. He's not good enough due to his size to be competitive to race for hardware in decent size events. Given that he's borderline elite when you weight adjust, there's not much low hanging fruit left. He's left with competing against himself and is in the territory where conditions are going to impact his time much more than they would most people. Personally I think that's a tough place to be. It's kind of nice to be happy finishing an event and honestly being happy about it. It nice knowing that your PRs have minutes of time that can be chipped away at, not seconds. While you would give a testicle to run his time, he would probably give a testicle to feel the sense of accomplishment many of us do when when finishing an event. He's in a different stratosphere in this sport than everyone here except for SteveC. While I'm happy for him, I also can feel him.
That's the most important part. Congrats!!!Fun times, details later. Wet, wet, wet!
No question he's not be happy with the time, I'm still not going to diminish his accomplishment. He's focused on Boston and that's where I'll be rooting for him next. While I'm happy for him, I also can feel him.
Positive split wasn't on purpose! And he did it with a 2 min positive split if the mats were accurately placed. Course layout and wind also come into play.
I read that's the case about 50% of the time. I'm still looking for someone to explain why that's now a viable strategy. Sometimes that's what the course or your body gives you and it doesn't make sense to fight it IMO.
Congrats @Juxtatarot
Looking forward to the race report. Weren't you on a 2:52 pace? When you say not on purpose, were your targeting a 2:52 or did you just get out faster than anticipated?Positive split wasn't on purpose!
Looks like a solid training run before a two week taper. That's a strong marathon. I know that @gruecd is smart enough to back off if the day wasn't going perfectly, given that Boston looms. Way to go, grue!
Decided to extend my hotel reservations for tonight so I don’t have to DRIVE back today!@Juxtatarot just saw your Strava. 21st overall and AG 2nd, fantastic. Planning to run back to Chicago?![]()
Running upfront and hardware to boot. Incredible@Juxtatarot just saw your Strava. 21st overall and AG 2nd, fantastic. Planning to run back to Chicago?![]()
Well deserved.Chief is da man! Nice work! Congrats on hitting your goal. Lots of hard work and training paid off. Time for beer.
Well if you're looking for a place to eat one of my favourite restaurants is in Noblesville. Chuy's. Cheap, gigantic heaps of Tex-Mex.Decided to extend my hotel reservations for tonight so I don’t have to DRIVE back today!
Sorry for the disappointment :(I was smart enough to back off. I'm just pissed that I had to.
