Ran a 10k - Official Thread (3 Viewers)

so far it looks like I am going to have nice weather for my 5k on saturday. mostly cloudy and 45 at race time per the forecast right now

We need to start activating relay talk.

Just a note, we've had a lot of rain lately with some flooding.  My wife's 10K this past weekend was cancelled due to flooding.  There are still parts of the trail that are underwater.  We are still 3 weeks away, but need to start hoping that the rains slow down.

Temps have been crazy cool for this time of year, though.  Lows in the 40's last night and highs in the 60's.  Would be amazing if it could stay like this for 3 more weeks.

What pace do you think you can run during your legs on the relay?
I'm not sure exactly.  I've lost some fitness since I took time off.  Heart rate is much higher.  I've run everyday this week though and will continue that through the race.  I think I'll try an "easy" tempo early next week and that should help me gauge things.  That will be my first miles under 7:00 pace since the marathon.

We need a ballpark.  It's like running porn for us recreational joggers.

So I'll certainly bring a second pair of shoes for the trail leg.

6:00 to 6:20 pace for the first leg. (Just two miles).  Second leg is trail and hilly IIRC.  I have no idea about pace, I'll just run on feel.  Hopefully I'll be under 7:00 pace for the last leg.  I've never run hard multiple times in a day and I'm not sure how my body handle it.

Hoping I can do something similar. Just depends how God-awful hot it is.

Sitting in my car wishing this thing had started at 6:15 instead of 8:15...

Got out again last night.  I reminded myself to take it easy and thankfully I listened.  I went  a little under 4 miles but mostly walking.  Back is sore this morning and I was worried I was getting back spasms.  Ultimately it seems like a lot of this is related to how much stretching I don’t do.  I’ve got to make that my number one priority I think - which sucks because I hate stretching.

There are a lot of really good 10-15min yoga stretch routines on YouTube.

21:22 according to my watch... wooo!
Looking forward to seeing full results online later but I do know I won my age group. Guessing I was about 15 to 20 overall. I think the time they announced when they gave me the gift certificate was 21:20.

That really felt good. Was definitley an effort but not all I had. Now I want another one to see if I can get under 21... That said, courses don't get much flatter or easier than that one so...

Just go out in the morning and see if you can get under 21.

4:21:10. Way better than I could've imagined. 5th place overall. Waiting to see how I placed in masters division.

So yeah, really couldn't have raced any smarter. I'm guessing probably 10-15 people went out ahead of me, and by the time we hit the turnaround at 6.5, I was in 8th place. Never got passed the entire day. Ran the next 6.5 miles all alone (except all the people coming from the other direction on their way out). I think I was 1:48 or something for the 13. Passed one dude towards the end of the first 9-mile loop to move into 7th and then two more towards the end of the second loop to take 5th.

I was 2nd in the 40-49 AG, but since the 1st place guy (44yo) was also the overall winner, I won the masters championship.

I'll maybe add some more thoughts later, but needless to say it was a great day...
