Ran a 10k - Official Thread (9 Viewers)

Yep, 22:25. She did awesome and it's a PR but she's way bummed. She ran 15 miles on Wednesday and legs weren't recovered. Her HR was only 153 she races in the 180s.

Congrats, TeamJuxt.
Sincere congrats to her on running a PR.  Never any shame in that.  And as cliched as it, this was very much a team competition.  She just happened to be the last one out.

Wow - a 30 second differential out of about 11,000 seconds of running per team.  Just ...wow.

Just popping in to say this has been so much fun to "watch."  Congrats to all!  The number of PRs and people digging deep for their teams has been incredible.  Loved all the reports you guys put together as well.  Eager for the next one!
We still have some injuries --- you in as a sub?

Be sure to share our @Alex P Keaton love back in the other thread!  You can take pride that one of "your guys" brought it home for us this morning.

I will admit that I've thought a little bit about doing the 4/4/48.  My advantages:  (1) I rarely sleep, and (2) I'm better at endurance than speed.  My disadvantage is that the chances I could do almost two marathons in two days are slim.  I have done marathon-ish distance in a day hike twice, and those involved significant elevation gain and loss while this I would just do on flat ground, but still I don't think I could repeat it two days in a row.

Good idea!

Excellent effort Mrs. Gian! I think this competition is shaping up to be way more than we all could have hoped for. Awesome to see all of the PRs and amazing that the overall teams are so close. Training for my 10k PR starts tomorrow!  :boxing:

You could literally just walk and complete it.  Make it happen!!  I mean, random thought......you could possibly listen to all 204 Beatles’ songs while doing this....

With that HR, on fresh legs, I truly believe she smokes sub 22.
Seriously, putting up that time at that HR.....on unrested legs is just crazy sick.   Impressive and inspirational.  You all have taught me that hard work pays off.  This whole group rocks.  Congrats to Mrs G on the PR.

edit:  unrested legs.  Stupid autocorrect.

Come join the fun.  I’m not trained at all for it so we can motivate each other.  Plus @gruecd is an animal so he won’t have any issues doing it, so i need a struggle partner. 😊

Oh god, I'm making my way through all their post-Beatles works right now (not going to rank them all, but some of them).  It's bad enough getting through the late 70s/80s Paul McCartney, but did you know Ringo has put out 20 freaking solo albums?  I'm gonna die.

Are you guys going to be able to find downhill 10K courses?  I think I’m just going to look for something somewhat flat.  And with the wind if it’s a windy day.

She didn't sand bag!

Really great effort, thank her for us.

Also, just saying, but @Brony added a minute to the calculated time from his 3.54 mile 5K from 19:33 to 20:20 in order to do the right thing.  If not for that, TeamGrue wins the first round.

Nope.

I did find a route which shouldn't be busy on an early morning, but it's not all that flat. I may have to adjust for wind but it's almost a loop.

I am likely just going to run my 5k course, but with 3 more loops added to where I usually do intervals. Hopefully I’ll be in better shape then.

Hoping running restrictions are lifted by the 10K dates to be able to get back to my old jaunts. Likely not downhill but I could perhaps get quite creative on a point to point and take the metro home afterwards.

Great stuff by Mrs G and all!  Thanks for all the math too guys.
I am so proud of the efforts to bust race pace out, whatever that is to you, under these present circumstances of life, fitness & training. We can be a bit fitter, a bit healthier and even hungrier for the next distance in a month.

I am hopeful and scared of the 10k.  Where’s my beet juice to settle me nerves.

If ...As they say, if your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle.

Tons of what-ifs to play with.  One you can use to appease her feelings: What if you hadn't made your brave effort to run?  What if a gendarme had stopped Harris this morning?  What if JShare had scrapped together what would have been gutty but substandard effort?  What would have been the effect of having Duck and BnB in play?  What if El Floppo doesn't make a MAC-turn on his course?  We've all got one.  It's endless.  And fun.

10K in a month!!

That's kind of the thing here. The best route I think I could create, assuming wind was right, I'd have to either call a cab or have a long (somewhere over 6 mile) walk afterwards.

I’m about to go outside, get our team the W, and show you what substandard looks like.

I might park halfway and use the halves as a warmup and cool down.

If I get a south wind then I have a good one. The problem is if I get a south wind then it's probably warm.

I'm thinking about just running a favorite out and back route. It's about 6.5 miles total and has a hill I would have to run each way. Other option is another route I run a lot when darkness is a factor. Problem with it is that it has a number of curves and I don't want my watch cutting corners and making me run extra.

Full disclosure, and I doubt this will come as a total shock to any of you, but I was mentally prepared as of last night to go back out there this afternoon and try to shave another 10-15 seconds off my time if it would've made a difference....and probably blow out my hamstring in the process.

I'm likely to use my 5k as my first half of the run, loop on some flat ground for the next 2 miles, then I have a pretty big downhill I can finish on.  Problem is, the downhill is pretty steep at the end and  finishes at a busy street.  I will need to be careful not to die.

Just for ####s and giggles (and maybe some training motivation), how many of you guys would be down for trying the 5K again in a couple of weeks?  To allow for more flexibility in scheduling, we could say anytime the week of April 27.  I have to consider the wisdom of this myself, as I'm already committed to doing the 4/4/48 thing starting at 5pm on May 1st.

Ha.  The guy who texted me today saying i was nuts if I tried to run again was considering it too!

Some late night route planning. So far the best I can do without many turns is a net downhill of about 225 feet over 10km

Will keep on studying the topographical maps and work something out soon  :nerd:

I’m just going to focus on the 10K.  I don’t want to start resting half way through these weeks to prepare for another 5K.

I will probably be doing one for giggles. Redemption and also because of the strava leaderboard for April 5k. I really don't want nor need any pressure.

To quote a good friend of mine: No.

I'll be running another 5k a week or two before the 10k, but no real desire to make it competitive.

Nah, I'm gonna recover then do a 3 week training cycle with the 10K in mind.

I will probably rerace it for “fun” sometime after the mile runs.

I’ll pass.  Need to do that 4x4x48 and then 10k in the next month.

Well my charger came in today so I laced them up for the first time in 6 weeks.  Team Gru can hang the loss on me and it wasn't even close.  Goal was to break 30 minutes and kick off some serious training for the 10k event.

1.5 mile warmup - Not sure why I did this other than to cut down on the walk back at the end, probably just made me tried.

Mile 1 - 9:06 pace, HR 132, 70 ft net down.  Didn't feel too bad.  Looking forward to the one miler in June.  Started off faster than goal pace to take advantage of the lower heart rate.

Mile 2 - 9:52 pace, HR 163, 30 ft net up.  My HR, is now right against threshold and my legs are starting to feel heavy.  WTF am I doing this.  Starting to have thoughts that my motor is going to blow and I'm not going to make it.  How the F did I run a marathon 6 weeks ago?  Gaining huge respect for you shovel toting BMFs who would be in the home stretch now and cussing you dum-dum sucking fools who would be done with their cool down lap by now.

Mile 3 - 9:30 pace, HR 167, 88 ft net down.  I wave zone 4 goodbye this mile for the duration.  Starting to feel sick to my stomach and this mile seems like it's never going to end.  Looking for the aid station with beer but I never saw it.

Mile 3.1 - 8:36 pace, HR 174, flat.  Finally the home stretch.  Head is spinning and HR is pegged at max.  Finish and immediately start dry heaving.  Looked at the watch and am happy that I cracked 30....29:23.
