I want to thank all of you guys. Seriously. These last 4 days were so much fun to be a part of. The experiences I've had with so many of you now are things I would have never guessed I'd be a part of. Running has really been a life changing thing for me and I only wish I had started sooner in life.  But, I also don't think it would have been the same without you guys here teaching, guiding, supporting, and sharing.

You could try to explain what we just did to other people and they just wouldn't get it. Reading these reports of most of us hallucinating, dry heaving, vomiting, curling up in the grass next to the road for precious seconds in a "meaningless" online competition is just crazy. Yet a ridiculous number of PRs later, and here we are.

I'm not looking forward to this 10K but I'll be there. And best of luck to @JShare87 and @SFBayDuck to heal up soon and join us. I know it sucks being on the sideline and yet you guys still showed up to follow along which is hard to do.

Epic weekend gents.
Thanks, I jogged a bit a few times this weekend while out walking and it felt ok.  So I went out this morning for a very slow, and very labored, 5K.  So assuming the hip holds up, I'm looking forward to putting up an embarrassingly slow 10K time in a month.

HAHAHAHAH it gives me a 3:15 marathon time and a 1:33 HM, based on my 5K from this weekend.  No way on this earth I could do either of those.

Given this, I think it's also being aggressive predicting a 42:18 10K for me.

At this point I'll sign-up for 44:59.  Which is more than a minute faster than the 46:03 it predicts if I use my November HM time and calculate down to 10K (instead of up from the 5K).
42:59

Those calculators are BS. I have never had a training cycle go as well as I did in the fall. I ran that HM almost perfectly. And even if my GPS was right and the course ran long I still ran a 1:21:15. And this madness thinks I can run a 1:17.

36:XX is my goal, 35:anything is only if I cheat again.

In all seriousness, I think something like 49:00 sounds about right for me. I'm not going to be able to find a route around my house that doesn't have some hills incorporated for that distance.

I was just playing around with my mile splits from my HM, which is where my strava 10K PR time is from. Looks like I likely set that PR in a stretch from somewhere between the end of mile 3 and the beginning of mile 11. It had some rolling little bumps but was basically a slow downhill most of the time with a decent downhill the last part of it. I also ran most of it with a pace group and then put some distance between me and the group the last mile or so to build a cushion before the last uphill climb of the race.

Really going to have to think about how/where I want to run this one.

Nah, you got 43:XX in you easily. You just need to start moving again.
strava PR is 46:10 and I can remember everything about that day so clearly - it was a mostly "easy day" considering I smashed my HM PR by like 5 minutes or something. Felt like I had more in me if I would have known it. I'd like to be able to do it in like 43:30 - that's 7 min/mile. Seems optimistic but I'll see what I can muster. I will definitely be moving again!

I’ll try and update my 10K time sometime this week. Rescheduled my appointment that was supposed to take place on May 5th to tomorrow. He gives me the green light, I start running and stop thinking about my knee.

Bump me up to 36:45. That's the neighborhood of my pace in last month's DQ and October's race that ran hilariously more than a quarter mile long. Since both of those races were ran quite solo I figure route control will hopefully offset any lost crowd motivation.

I'll split the difference between my PR from last fall and the number from Gian's calculator.  38:30 for me.

PS:  As much as I hate 5K races, I firmly believe that 10K might be the single most painful distance that exists.  Twice as long, and yet still pretty much completely anaerobic.

47:00 seems very aggressive to me right now, but may be right...I'll see where I'm at after running some these next couple weeks.

ETA...if we end up back in NYC, not sure. I'm hearing they're requiring runners to wear masks at all times. the one time I went last month, I brought a mask for when I passed nearish to people..was brutal trying to breath even for a few seconds. I honestly can't imagine really running while wearing one.

wait.  How far is a 10K again?  I haven't done one in 25+ years.

Give me an estimate, buddy, and I'll drop 'er in.
I gave one and you didn't update mine. ;)

For the record, all I gave when starting this was what my strava recorded PRs were and said that I promised to beat each of those. 1 for 1. I've still never actually tried to PR a 10k. This will be quite the experience.

I have a mask on my balaclavas. Granted the conditions I use them (bitter cold) are vastly different than what you would, but there is a massive difference between trying to breathe with it on vs off. So I only use it when into the wind and at extremely low temps - talking sub zero wind chills.

I was playing with a couple and looking at my 10k pr from strava. 44:59 is what I'm trying to lock into my mind as a goal.
I think you're saying 44:59 is your current projection.  I'll enter it in while you continue to convince yourself on this.

I think the new thing is to not project a time lower than tri-man ...don't take the risk that your wife will age-shame you.

Though I'm still waiting to hear if @Alex P Keaton has fessed up to mrs. keaton that he not only got AARPed in the 5K but got chicked as well.
Mrs APK and 11 year-old daughter would be offended by the idea that it is an accomplishment for a woman to outperform a guy.  That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

I will go one second faster than Dr. Z.  I need to justify my draft position.

I have one too that I used on the bike. I've run with it too, but usually pull the opening under my chin because of breathing

Updated for all the #TeamJuxtBigHeads changes.

@SteelCurtain, you figuring that after your school sees the key, but disappointing, May 1st numbers on new freshmen commitments, you'll have plenty of free time to train?
