Ran a 10k - Official Thread (3 Viewers)

Looks like I have the makings of a running season (still some gaps to fill...aka the awful months of Summer):

2017 (remaining as of today)

3/25-10k

4/22-5k

5/14-5k

6/18-5k

9/10-10k

10/1-10k

10/28-8k

10/29-5k

11/4-10k

11/25-10k

2018

1/21-5 Miler

2/24-15k

2/25-8k

3/18-Half marathon  :oldunsure:

I'd say, that is a full schedule.  It's cool that you're able to commit to so many races, are any associated with a running series or are they all individual events?
I have 4 as part of one series (October, January, and March) and another is Gasparilla (weekend in February).  The others are just the garden variety races in the area every weekend in the Tampa Bay Area. There are a lot to pick from here.  Sadly most longer than 5k are far more sparse.

Running series can be fun and if the same people run them can turn competitive in a good way.  When I first started out I had a good friendly rivalry with a female runner over 20 years older than me.

If you stick around 3:00 pace the first half you hopefully will have a nice sized pack to run behind.  Maybe do that and negative split the second half?
I would love to get to the half way mark right at 1:30 and negative split, but I am not counting on having a nice pack to run behind.  The marathon is kind of a small race, 3:00 would have finished 35th overall last year.

I see a lot of the same folks.  Always catch up to this woman in half my races and just run with her.  We pace about the same so it's fun.  I'm mostly competitive with myself.  Not the fastest guy in the world, but always looking to improve overall.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be racing this weekend. I've somehow turned my left ankle injury into a left knee injury. I couldn't even do the elliptical without pain yesterday. :kicksrock:

Damn that sucks.
Yes it does. I guess I'm just another casualty of too much too soon. I really should have let these marathon thoughts die after the first setback. But as soon as I got running again, I started pressing to up the mileage. I knew it was risky but did it anyway.

This time I'll going to going to focus on getting healthy and put the thought of racing at any distance on the back burner.

Allow me a moment to draw some attention to myself...

5K coming this morning and its a big race for me.  This time last year, Mom was getting forgetful and starting to get confused a lot.  She had some big stresses in her life at the time and passed it off as such when Dad tried to convince her to go to the doctor.  She babysat our boys when my wife and I ran this race last year.  After getting back from the race, I sat down and had a heart-to-heart with Mom about going to the doctor.  I'll never forget her saying, "Your father put you up to this, didn't he?"  We laughed, we talked, we told each other that we loved each other.  Not like you tell someone when you get off the phone or say goodbye, but a really heartfelt, look-you-in-the-eye I love you.  I told her that I had said what I needed to say and that I wouldn't bug her about it again.  It turned out to be an aggressive cancer and Mom went downhill fast.  I never bugged her again about going to the doctors - partly because I told her that I wouldn't, and partly because everything after that happened so fast.  It was the last heart-to-heart conversation that I remember having with Mom while she was still able to communicate as herself.

I'll run this race every year in her honor.  Love ya, Mom.

Sucks, man. Denial is such a powerful thing. I get it.

Ran 2 5Ks this morning, one competitively the other was a drink and run. I came in 2nd overall for the 1st one by less than a second. I truly did not see or hear the guy behind me (headphones). Unreal, my time was amazing but kinda pissed because I should've won 1st easily. 20:10 time.

Sorry dude.   :sadbanana:

Damn bug has been going around the fam this week and last. I got it bad yesterday.  Allowed me to binge watch iron fist but being :X sucks.

At 1am I woke up to pee, ended up hitting my head on the door and fell on my ### in the bathroom.  Dizzy as anything and dehydrated.  Felt better when I woke but then our 6yo got sick again - his 4th time in the last 10 days. He acts fine the rest of the day but that's some nasty ####.

At least it's a whole lot nicer outside now than it was earlier this week. Oh, and this was spring break.

How the hell did that happen?

In any case, sorry to hear about the family.  I suppose if you have 47 kids, chances are pretty good someone's gonna be sick.  Hope everyone is better soon.

One headphone, not two.  Always.

Congrats though, sounds like a great day racing!

Our toilet is in a room inside the bathroom, pretty nice to be able to #### while someone is showering and not be staring at them.  Well, the door was open and I walked into the edge of the door.  It was like someone punched me, as I was on the floor a second later.

Poor @pbm107 conditions suck today in VB. 30's, rainy and very windy but I'm sure a beast like him is still gonna get the job done. So far he's avg 6:54 through 10K.

Had a great meet up with our boy last night for dinner. My first cornhole and it was all I hoped it would be and more.  http://imgur.com/a/K9nKr
