Ran a 10k - Official Thread (14 Viewers)

Bit the bullet and paid for an X-ray at the walk-in. Leg is still in pain when I walk. No fractures. They said it’s just a mild case of being a little b*###. We’ll see how my run goes in the morning. 
Sounds like a small price to pay for being a BMF.  

 
Heading over to Disney to get my bib.  Lots of salty goodness for lunch today.

Looks like we need a last name to track from what I can see. Are you on Strava? If so, just let us know your initials or something if you don't wanna put that info on here.
AB in the strava group. I had an email that said you are supposed to be able to look up by bib number but couldn't find it - only saw the name option.

 
I'm sure its been touched on here, but what's a reliable way to calculate your HR zones?  
My opinion:

There isn't a totally reliable way.  Perhaps the best way is to collect data over several months with runs at various intensities and start the process of backing into zones from them.  Be skeptical of any calculation that you find online, particularly those that include your age.

Goal is to not go out too ####ing fast(!). 

I'm trying to keep my expectations in check:  There are a LOT of runners for this.  I'm in Wave 1, corral 1.  Wife and kids are in wave 2, corral Q (yes, there are that many corrals).  I'm walking the balance of getting there on time for wave 1 vs. not making this a miserable experience for wife and kids.  If I miss the 7AM start for wave 1, I can always go later; but I've been warned that it gets really crowded.  Good news/bad news - there is no race day packet, so I have to go to McCormick Place tomorrow to get bibs and swag, but at least I won't have to deal with that Sunday AM.  Overall, though, I just want to enjoy running through the loop with 30,000 others(!). 

So if this was normal 5K, I'm always looking to break 20 and rarely succeeding.  I've had mixed signals of optimism the last few weeks, so breaking 20 would still be huge.   Looking back on last 2 years of races - my times are better when I go out slower on first mile.  For Sunday, GPS is going to suck in the city - so I'm going to need  some luck to thread the needle between 6:35 and 6:45 on mile 1. 

For those go-getters on Sunday morning with 20 minutes to kill, I'll post my bib info.   Side note - my old chiro MD helped invent this race with the owner of a shoe store that was looking to have some off-season event.   Years later, the shoe store owner sold his store and the race for well over 1MM.  Hint: the store was not worth 1MM.

GPS should be good by the park.  I recall it being pretty good on Michigan from the Marathon.  Mile 2 will be bad, mile 3 good and mile 1 might be a little mixed.

I really like the 15K course.  Maybe I'll have to run that one of these years.  I knew it was a popular race but I didn't know it was that big!

Agreed ...collect data, and use that as your guide.

My hotel is a 5-min walk from the start line, so I've got the luxury of hanging out here until it's "go" time. It'll be nice being able to keep my muscles warm and to not have to stand in line for the toilet.

Temp outside is perfect....36° with virtually no wind. If I don't get this done, I'm gonna need to find a different excuse besides the weather. ?

Finished.   Meh time, but way faster than the first 10k I ran.  Got pretty emotional out there.  A lot of stuff pent up that needed to come out.  I’ll give a better play by play later after some drinking at EPCOT.  It’s nice to back after my 5 month hiatus.

Glad I had a good poop before I left at 3:30 this morning. It really makes all the difference. So weird finishing a race around 7 am.  Another lap around EPCOT and then a good night’s sleep for a change.

Looked at your Strava and your HR was high 160s until 4K and then it spiked to high 170s and stayed there.  I couldn't maintain that high of a HR (nice work!) but I'm curious why the big change.  4K at one rate and then a spike rather than a gradual climb.  Did you try to increase your pace?

Yeah.  I tried to push it a little more and it didn’t exactly work out.  I’m still getting back into it so I expected I high HR throughout.  I am usually in the 150s when I am consistently running.  :bag:

 
I’m a little hesitant to put this out there, but #### it. Hoping for 1:29:30 (which should feel pretty easy) for the first half and 1:28:30 or a tad faster (which won’t) for the second half.
The eyes and hearts of the sporting world are with the Clydesdale himself as he enters the marathon’s last 4 miles. 

He is unwavering in his goal pursuit!
