Ran a 10k - Official Thread (6 Viewers)

Sounds good to me. We can run off the buzz.

Rinse and repeat all day. Booyah!

We could also bring a grill and cook up some brats.
This makes me happy. Was really dreading the van ride. Still hoping @Brony joins us. He can be the chef?

Yes.  Only 1 runner out at a time, though.  And there are 3 different orders you can run.  So start putting your preferences of what you want to run first.

The options are:

1)  Middle, long, short trail

2)  Short trail, middle, long

3)  Long, short trail, middle
I call dibs on being runner #1, so it's middle, long, short trail for me

You got it.  I don't know which I prefer so I'm fine going anywhere.  I'll fill in depending on what others want.

The only "advantage" I think we could use is having @JShare87 run the #2 order (either runner #2 or #5) so that the long run is during the warmest part of the day as he's most used to it.  And I'm fine doing the same.

Can we all do option 1?

My thought is save the trail leg till the end where we can be in the shade during the hottest part of the day.

That and the legs don't get beat up on the trail early.
From the Facebook discussion going on:

We are actually using Madison County Trails primarily, which are all paved bike paths. Only one section of 3.1 miles will be on the SIUE Cross Country Course, which is a grass trail (still not single track/trail). As soon as we can, we will post maps of each leg. Thanks so much for your patience with us!

And some more:

We will be sending revised start times for this new event format early next week. For now, you can assume that it will still be morning - but for example if you were a 4:30am start time (that is the earliest time) we need to start those teams closer to 5:30am, and the push back start times accordingly. In short, you can assume that your start time may change a half hour to hour, but not much more. I'm sorry I don't have more information, but we are moving as quickly as we can and will share updates with teams as soon as we have them! Thanks so much for your patience!

I don’t mind running in the heat. I would just prefer my longest run to be 1st. I have no clue how my leg is going to be after my 1st run.

Everyone is running 13.6 miles.  However, our time is going to be worse because me and @ChiefD are running more than before which will overall slow us down :(

But this is going to be a party for sure!!  Yes, bring the smoker, tents, whatever.  That's not stuff I have, so.....

Honestly, we need to maximize our best runners.  Pick something that is going to give you a shot to do your best.
I have no idea what is best.  I've never done anything like this before.   Also I'm still trying to get back from taking time off so my times are going to be slower than you guys would predict.

People are actually going to eat BBQ between running legs??   :X   Maybe once we're done...

I'd think given your skill set and training that option 2 would the worst one for you.  I can go either way on #1 and #3 though.

My thoughts:

Runner 1:  @gruecd (4 miles, 6.5 miles, 3.1 trail)

Runner 2:  @ChiefD (3.1 mile trail, 4 miles, 6.5 miles)

Runner 3:  @tri-man 47 (6.5 miles, 3.1 mile trail, 4 miles)

Runner 4:  @Juxtatarot (4 miles, 6.5 miles, 3.1 trail)

Runner 5:  @gianmarco (3.1 mile trail, 4 miles, 6.5 miles)

Runner 6:  @JShare87  (6.5 miles, 3.1 mile trail, 4 miles)

Thoughts?
It might make some sense to flip tri and jshare. Tri may have more at the end to bring us home.

I was thinking running later in the day when it's warmest.  But they know themselves best.

Are you ok with leg #2 or would you prefer #3 or #6?

Also happy to flip flop #5 if you prefer (same order).  But I don't mind the heat.

Yeah.  This is a COMPLETELY different event.  I mean, it's still going to be fun.  But the unique nature of the driving, the Katy trail, and different legs for everyone is part of the experience that makes it fun.  That's why I hope we can get another team together in the future and "do it right".

I'm still looking forward to this overall but I'd be lying if I wasn't completely bummed about this.
I'd be interested in possibly doing this next year if schedule works out, etc. Biggest issues for me would be that my youngest graduates high school and it will be my 25th wedding anniversary. Both around the same time as this event...

Pretty sure I will be able to work it in. Couple years ago my anniversary weekend was spent doing a tough mudder with a few guys from work. My wife and I stayed at a bed and breakfast for the weekend. I went and ran 11 miles or whatever with obstacles while she sat on the bank of the river all day with a book, wine, snacks, etc. I came back, showered, changed, and we went out to dinner. Just need to find out what the school schedule looks like.

oof... depends on when the race is scheduled. Just googled the school calendar for next year. Graduation this year was last night (5/23). Graduation next year is 5/29. If the race is on 5/31, that might be a tough sell but we'll see.

Not even going to bother looking anything up if it's May 31, but if the race is June 6 then I'll get to work on seeing if it's feasible.  Not optimistic though.  Cross referencing three school calendars I'm sure at least one of them will bleed too far into June.

Who wants a running partner?
I went through rules when I brought this up with you earlier and it states any kind of pacing is prohibited. I'm not sure how it'll be that day or how strict, but I wouldn't plan on it being ok, unfortunately. Sucks because it would be fun.

IIRC alcohol is prohibited too.
