Ran a 10k - Official Thread (8 Viewers)

If I weren’t lazy, overweight, and out of shape, I’d be right there with you guys.   But I will be there in mind and spirit.  Make us proud!

A great start to the weekend: two hours into our drive, Brony, Juxt, and I picked up a guy in the men’s bathroom of a Petro fuel station south of Chicago.  He was eager to join us.

Alas, it was just Grue, who happened to stop there, too, before our planned meeting in the nearby town.

I got ####### punked by a band of misfit geese out on a non-passable trail tonight.  Lowest of lows in my running career.   :kicksrock:

I tried to talk them down as they clearly were not grasping the fact that I intended no harm, but the fact they had about 20 lazy ### little ones that wouldn’t scoot to the side of the trail was of more significance to them than I.  So the two closest adults gave me about 50 hissing head bobs as I continually attempted to reason with them from a distance at about eight feet before the first attack was launched. My initial reaction was to turn and run, but visions of YouTube idiots falling down as geese attacked quickly flooded my thoughts. Thus I stopped, stood my ground, and gave this ####er some of my best foot stomps.  I would not be defeated in my quest for a simple trail passing. Not here. Not today. The geese quickly audibled and launched into an well orchestrated, double attack. The second goose attacked from the front as the original atracker circled around to flank my rear.  This was some coordinated ####, for which I had no answer. As soon as I’d stopped the front assault, the rear goose was charging.  When I stuffed him at the goal line, the frontal charge was back on. There were four more adults backing these two bastards up, and I soon waved the white flag.  Hanging my head in shame and scouring the horizon to ensure there were no human witnesses to my defeat, I backtracked and alternated to a parallel path, all the while turning to catch glimpses of the geese laughing and telling stories of victory.

First leg done. 3.4 miles at 6:18/mile in 65° and 87% humidity. At 6:45am. 😓

This after schlepping all our gear 2 miles from the parking lot to base camp...

Is there somewhere to follow along?  I’m sure there is and I missed it so would appreciate if someone could link it.
Brony is our unofficial media spokesperson on the ground. Expect the type of coverage to morph as the day progresses and he surpasses being a half dozen pops deep into the cooler. Stay tuned.

First cycle (six legs) complete.  We’re right on our projected pace (averaging about 7:06/mi).  Highlight might have been Gian’s near-death experience of running the trail leg very hard. #collapse #bigmandown #he’lllive
I was worried about @gianmarco after this post, but he was able to run a strong 2nd leg.

Did @JShare87 have to outkick someone at the end to beat them by a second?
Just his teammates in the group finish. Lotta gutty efforts out there today.

my legs, briefly:

5.91 mi @ 7:45/mi - right on target.

3.20 trail miles @ 8:14/mi - none of us enjoyed the course and the traction on the grass. A discouraging leg for me.

3.38 mi @ 7:48/mi - a solid BMF bounce back with a strong finish.

Great to see our 10th place finish!  (For “team BMS,” as the wimpy announcer called us at the finish).
