Dang!  So what do you feel is your ideal weight?  And how do we add some strength to those bones?
I like 165lbs.  Even at that weight, the Bod Pod measures me at 15% body fat :bag: . I'm genetically a scrawny geek.  I was very active in University with tennis and hockey, but still a scrawny geek.  So if I could trade some of that 25lbs of fat for muscle, and stay at 165 total, I'd be thrilled.

The plan for this year was to start weights and do pushups to build some mass/strength.  Totally abandoned when I moved to DFW (and left my weights in Calgary).  This morning I was thinking about how I can resurrect that.

This is one thing I've heard that bothers me about the Peloton.  For a product at this price level, the power numbers should almost be dead on.  The computrainers I used to use had a calibration procedure.  Does the peloton platform not have this?
I’m sure peloton has amazing calibration. I’ve rode them before, but they don’t have a calibration that I’m aware of. For example my wahoo recommends calibration before every ride. Also says to do a 10 min warmup before hand.

All that said, power is not for comparing to other people, power is for measuring against your own baseline.

But yeah- I've always been a get up and go runner too...at least as an adult.

My poops are usually first thing or in the afternoon, and I haven't been bothered by the chiefd express for years. But I've been running after breakfast and coffee lately...and that train is a-rumbling on down the tracks.

Today on my run I kept hearing this noise that sounded like roadwork or grading machinery. Kept looking around, but nothing. Then I started to feel the baby breach and realized the sound had been coming from inside my body.

Need to get back into waking up before everybody else and hitting the road.

My point of my food posts is that if I didnt workout I would most likely be twice the size I am now.  I love to eat, I love to drink, and I do not have an athletic figure (short arms, short legs, broad chest).  Here is what I have learned about myself:

I love to eat.  More over, the act of eating.  Food in my mouth and chewing.  Then looking at the next bite and wanting more.  Im convinced its in my genes.  It makes me happy and I no longer fight it.  I often think about what Im going to eat when I get home from a workout.  It makes me content knowing I have that reward.

Now that I know its not the type of food thats important, I have subbed in mostly filler.  Get my stomach completely full with more or less fiber.  Yes, a #### ton of fiber.  That meal there, the entire plate-filler is as follows:

  • 1/4c red beans - 66
  • 1/4c lima beans - 54
  • 1/2c brown rice - 108
  • 1/2 small onion - 22
  • 2 celerey stalks - 20
  • 1c shredded carrot 45
  • 1 egg - 78
  • 1 tbsp canola oil - 120
My math has that at about 500 calories.  It might even be less as I dont think I actually use that much oil.  Regardless, the quantity is enormous.  My body at this moment really has no idea at the amount of calories, but im completely satiated.  I burned about 600 calories this morning which means I should be at a deficit.  This bodes well rolling into a reasonable dinner* and even some snacks.

I read a blog once about trying to trim down for events.  There was a quote along the lines of "wear your hunger as a badge of honor".  This meal will get me till about 4pm where I will have a Diet Coke.  The caffeine will suppress enough hunger till dinner.

Now, I will load more calories if I have a long session the next day, but the burning usually lines up with the meal calories.

* - Im currently allowing myself 1 meat meal a week.  I've found the calories from fat (see oil) are hard to overcome just from a quantity standpoint.  I think the meat reduction has allowed me to eat a whole lot more food without the caloric uptick

One other items I think I have learned.  Dont think about colories as a daily number, think about them as a weekly number.  If you are great 5 outta 7 days, those 2 days can ruin your progress.  I try to limit myself to gluttoness 1 afternoon a week.  Sat night being drinking and typical meat meal.  Even now though, those sessions hurt the next day (see my post last week  )

They may mean it differently, but I really only eat one 'meal' per day too. I just graze all day though. Not sure if they do - or not. I've had better success with weight control since I went to one meal. If I'm in a high volume exercise period then I naturally eat a little more amidst my grazing. If I'm going through a recovery day or three I eat less during the day. This is still relatively new though. Didn't really flip the switch to this until about a year ago.

No grazing here. Fast for 20-24 hours everyday.

Nope, no grazing.  The downside of one huge meal a day is that once I start eating, it's like flipping a switch.  "IT'S EATING TIME", my body says, and I just start consuming everything.

Sunday was like that.  After eating well all week, I decided to have some chips and salsa around noon while I had a virtual date with my wife (and no, I don't even get lucky virtually, let alone in-person).

By four o'clock, I had consumed that 1lb bag of chips (+salsa), a half a pan of brownies, a couple PB sandwiches, a couple toaster pastries, a few handfuls of roasted peanuts, and a bag of goldfish crackers.

Thus, I try to just not eat at all until dinner time.  Work days are easy, weekends are hard.

:goodposting: I use Zwift along with my Garmin Edge and get all these metrics. Always kinda knew what they were but never had it spelled out as clearly as that article. Thanks!

10k test run last night. 1:16 and change so 1-2 min over predicted time. A better course will help that. @SFBayDuck what type of pace have you been posting. 3 weeks to gain some fitness
Well, first I'll have to work my way back up to running 6 miles. So I've got that going for me.  Which is nice......
6 1/2 miles today, thanks to starting an Every Single Street project here in my town.  If I'm going to be stuck running roads for awhile, I wanted to have something to distract me from the monotony.  Found an app that links to Strava that shows the roads you've run on and those you've missed, so I look like a fat and slow @MAC_32 running around with my phone in my hand.

But man the Strava phone apps sucks!  It had me flying over 2 streets of houses in a straight line at one point, and it totally missed a few little Courts I ran down and back up so now I have to repeat those. My watchband delivery is now delayed, but I think I'm just going to carry it in my pocket and use it instead.  Also, my town has an annoying number of dead end private streets.

So you can't fly? Interesting, notebook updated.

I've been semi-steadily losing weight the last 18-24 months and it's kind of a result of going the other way - eating more often but smaller amounts. I love to eat way too much to think about only getting to do it once a day! Like the process of eating, the tasting of the food, everything about it!

Apropos of nothing, I finally figured out that your profile picture was an iguana with the edges cropped.  All this time I'd been seeing it as a green baby/fetus grabbing the roof of a house  :bag:   I thought it might be from a cheesy horror movie or something.

If I see a guy running with his phone in his hand then I’ll assume it’s you and throw change at you. You’re still in Novato right? Or I’ll hit you with my bike as I ride by

Yup, hitting all these damned Courts off of Center Rd near my house to get started.  I’ll get over to Hamilton by the Coast Guard hangar soon enough.

If you see me, heckle me.

I live over by Scottsdale pond. I stay away from center and the 7/11 shootings

Just got back from my run.

Had to poop under a tree.

First time I've ever pooped outside in my life.

I feel like a new man.

A weight has been lifted from me.

I am free.
I'd show you the secret handshake, but for the Outside Poopers Club ("OPC"), it's not exactly sanitary.  So our secret handshake is that we don't have a secret handshake.

347.5km (215.9mi) this month, a new monthly high.

But only 891m of elevation.  Truly a new low, even including the very first month I started hiking three years ago.  That monthly elevation is less than my average Saturday in Calgary.

Hopefully I can travel again soon.  While the running training is great, losing my mountain legs is going to do nothing for my hopes of running a 50-miler or 100K later this year...

I rearranged your post into double haiku format. I think it works better like this.
While I appreciate the literalness of your formatting change, the elegance of the original work is the depth that was reached.  I was really trying to squeeze out the double meanings.  I really wanted the reader to be able to interpret the writing in the way that best matches how they are feeling at that moment, and not just dump or force a narrative on them.  I wanted it to flow without restrictions.

That's all I have for now.  I'm wiped.

Got more in April than in March which was my goal. I have either a mental or physical block around 35-40 miles a week I need to bust through.  I get in my head around there mileage wise and then overthink the aches.  This year with less race goals has to become about me getting mileage up and staying there.
Good news is I’m feeling healthy and pissed I didn’t head out early today as it gonna storm all day. So I’ll ride da bike.  And yes, this is exactly how I don’t get mileage up.
