Are you going to replace them every 4 to 6 months?
I hope not.  Will be interesting to see how they wear.  Apparently the foam for the shoe itself lasts forever.  It's the tread/bottom of the sandal that wears down.  As I'm essentially just wearing this at home, I'm hoping that will allow it to last a long time.

This is what boggles my mind, too.  Krista, were you an ambiturner?

And @gianmarco, given her difficulty with stairs - sing along: "There's no way ...no way ...she can make it down that ramp ...without fallin' on her a##"
It seems like everyone in my house is obsessed with that song.  I heard it all weekend.

Guys,

I'm quoting this because there's a big problem with this recovery sandal. It will make everything else you put on your feet feel like ####.

Seriously, get yourselves a pair of these sandals. They are amazing. @gruecd can attest to them as well (no idea if he likes them as much as me, if that's possible, but....)

If you don't want to get it yourself, put it on that gift wishlist. Can't decide on that gift for someone else? These sandals.
You have me intrigued with your enthusiastic endorsement, but I must admit I am confused as to what these are actually supposed to do.  What makes them a "recovery" sandal rather than just "this is a real comfy" sandal?  Do they do something to your foot circulation?  I am having trouble wrapping my head around any non-placebo effects.

Recovery sandals

I will tell you this (obviously completely anecdotal).  Some of us have mentioned how we feel more stiff or sore in the morning.  I get out of bed and it usually takes me at least a few steps to get the ankles loose and even longer for everything to feel "normal".  It's part of the reason I don't really like running first thing in the morning as I don't usually get there for at least 1-2 hrs.  I don't think I'm the only one.  Now, when I get out of bed and I put these on, all of those aches and stiffness vanish immediately.  It's ridiculous and I don't quite understand how or why.  I picked up a pair of the sandals for my wife that came in a couple days ago.  This morning, she reported the exact same thing to me.  She was a little sore/tired from our run yesterday, put on the sandals, and instantly felt so much better.

Prior to getting her the sandals, I actually ordered her a pair of the clogs.  She wears those for work and her current pair is done.  Now, with work, she has to be on her feet, sometimes without moving much, for hours on end.  She wears compression socks regularly because of that.  The other day was a long day where she was stuck there for almost 24 hrs.  Normally that kind of day (and night) will impact the next day as her legs and feet will feel tired and sore.  She had these clogs on and said she's never felt so good after such a long day stuck in the OR.

I don't know the research behind it or what makes it a "recovery" sandal, but I will tell you that I was skeptical of the reviews when I read them before I tried it out.  And now I'd be willing to throw down with anyone that tells me these don't work.

We ran 16 miles yesterday for our long run and I brought them with me in the car to put on when finished.  The comfort when putting them on after we were done was just pure heaven.  It's hard to describe but I've never put on any previous pair of flip flops and thought they were uncomfortable.  Now they feel like wooden boards.  Even my work clogs, as I put them on last night heading in now feel stiff and uncomfortable.  I can't imagine anyone getting a pair of these and being disappointed in them.

You should message them on social and see if they'll sponsor you...

I got these Smoky-Smoky

But it might be nice if we all had different ones.
I'm pretty sure it would not only be adorable if we all had matching sandals, but also super intimidating on these virtual team runs we do.  Think how scared the other teams would be knowing that we coordinated our sandals...total psychological warfare going on  :headbang:

Do you think the Power Rangers would look as scary and effective if they were all the same color?  Stop being ridiculous.

Math is hard.

Day 18 of the 100 kettlebell swings, wanted to vary it up a little. So I figured I'd do descents. Start at 15, work my way down to 10, x 2 so that's 100.

I know I can get a set done in one song.

Blast The devil's dance floor, song ends and I'm not done. :oldunsure:

Then it hits me

 2x 14-11 is 100. :bag:

150 is a bit more than I planned.

Finally, the last product I mentioned earlier that I'd review was this GU flask. Used it today and it's solid.

Reasons to get it:

1) Easier to take while running. No need to tear the little packet, then cut the side of your mouth getting it out, then having to worry about throwing it away. Just turn the top and squeeze. Allows you to take more than a single serving if you want, as well.

2) It holds up to 5 servings and you can easily adjust how much you bring with you. It's marked on the flask so you can see how much you fill up and how much you take.

3) It ends up being cheaper than buying the packets. It's like $13 for the 15 serving pouch (< $1 per serving) compared to $1.50 per packet. Pays for itself after just one of those pouches.

The only downside is it's not "small", but, for example, it easily fit in my flipbelt.
Just got mine in the mail today. I put them on and am blown away by their comfort. Our hero saves the day again!

I lose fitness so fast.  Four weeks "off" (~6 activities over those four weeks), and on Saturday I'm sucking wind on trail climbs I used to destroy.

Lumbar spine and hip MRIs tomorrow.  PT appointment Thursday.

Going to try to run 2x this week and then another trail run on Saturday.

The NSAIDs and rest are doing more for my butt than the steroids and rest.  Hopefully PT will give me some good tips for at-home recovery as well.

Clock is ticking to September (Run Rabbit Run) and October (R2R2R)!
You've still never got an MRI on your back for your butt pain? Calling herniated l4-l5 now.

Yeah, in Canada, publicly-funded discretionary MRIs take months to get.  So now that I'm in the US system, they're much more accessible.

I'll let you know tomorrow, what the findings are (provided I hear back tomorrow)!

On the goose topic, it's funny because my son and I were just discussing Canada geese yesterday.  We have a bunch of them in the industrial park at work, and while I wish they wouldn't crap all over the place, they've never displayed any sort of aggressiveness towards me at all.  I've even tried ambling into a group (gaggle I suppose) of them a few times and they just sidle out of the way.  Am I the Goose Whisperer?  Are Mid Atlantic geese the chill, non-confrontational kind?

Do not mess with the cobra chicken.

I worry about them in the spring during nesting season.  They can be very nasty then.  The rest of the time they aren't bad.  I don't like splitting a gaggle when I can avoid it.  That makes them anxious -- sometimes one will hiss at me then but I've only been attacked in the spring.

But after causing one of them to fatally jump into traffic, you'd figure they either now all hate you or all fear you as their ultimate foe.

In all seriousness, I know that crows recognize human faces.  Some scientists did an experiment about that and the crows remembered who was non-threatening and who was a trouble maker.  Do geese?  I don't know.  They seem dumber.

:lmao:   A discussion of the mental acuity of geese.  I love it.  Next time you run by them, shout out "person; woman; man; camera; tv" and see if they show any recognition.

I had heard that about crows as well.  Not sure how the two stack up.  I read somewhere that brain size doesn't necessarily correlate to intelligence - creatures with higher intelligence tend to have more highly folded brains.

For those with spare time to put various birds through their paces:

Bird intelligence tests

This article talks about crows obscuring food from geese, and also mentions adaptive goose behavior which might explain some of the varying degrees of goose aggressiveness:

Goose behavior

The first article actually talks about crows and faces, and it is too hilarious not to excerpt.  Don't mess with the crows, man!

Facial Recognition Test

Skills: Visual abilities, rapid learning, long-term memory

Test: Researchers at the University of Washington had a feeling that crows on campus, some of which they occasionally temporarily brought into the lab, could recognize them. To see if the birds truly did remember human faces, in 2010 the researchers donned masks, then behaved in a way that was “dangerous”—capturing and banding crows—or neutral, not capturing crows. They caught and released five groups of up to 15 crows around Seattle.

Takeaway: For the next three years, the crows scolded and mobbed (swooped around, pooped on) anyone wearing the “dangerous” mask, even if it was on a different person or if the wearer was in a large crowd. The study revealed that a single negative interaction is all it takes for crows to form a grudge. What’s more, the antagonized birds recruited other crows to scold the offending humans, though the researchers aren’t quite sure how they did that.

I think I've missed something in the last day or so. @gianmarco, is that @gruecd riding with (on?) you with your magic yellow flipflops powering your sweaty adventures?

Also, what @krista4 said. Whenever I see a crow anywhere I assume he is silently plotting my death. There's a reason a group of them is called a murder. Be nice to them.

@Dark Matter, those fires affecting you (and your workouts) at all?
Fires are east of us with the wind blowing from the west so not affected. 🙏Thanks for checking up on us, GB!

I have hired a coach to guide me along this journey towards IM and his first instructions to me were to rest and lose 20 lbs.  I'm carrying 220-225lbs so my goal is to get to 199lbs and stay there. This may be the greatest challenge because of my love for all things food & most especially, drink🍻. The goal is to shed .5 lb./week and keep it off. It will be done. At the moment, gyms are closed in California, so water is limited. Based on my lack of swimming experience we are going to hold off including any swimming into the program and train just run/cycle at low volumes. 3Xweek run 3mi., 3Xweek cycle 1hr., 1 brick 1.5hrs with a 30 min. stretch routine every other day, 1 day rest. We have a target of the Santa Barbara Tri in September 2021 (1mi ocean swim, 33 mile bike, 10 mile run) as our first event. It is counter intuitive for me to back off like this but that is why I knew I needed a coach to teach me how to train. Thanks for all the support especially @JAA  coach suggestion (really looking forward to being able to swim 2k yards in open water like you some day  )! Have a great day Ya'll...Be Well.

I still get the jumpy&quo thinking about racing tris- especially when I hear other people training. Have fun! it's addictive as hell- and incredibly rewarding. every time I completed a segment of a tri was like finishing a big race... great feeling.

maybe someday I'll get back into them (tri-bike collecting dust in our storage locker) and swimming back to dead-weight.

Looks like you're running lately.  And some great paces to boot.  Getting back into it?  Should come around here more often.
Slowly but surely trying to get back into it but yes, definitely need to check in here more and join in on the races/competitions you guys have been doing.    I’m down in the middle of no where Texas right now without my peloton and while I bought a old bike down here to ride where I’m at the streets aren’t paved well so I think my running will tick back up as long as I can avoid the knee and ankle pain that pushed me away.   Thanks for tagging me here, motivation I needed to start checking into this thread more!

Foot feeling almost normal, so I decided to take advantage of the 50-degree temps this morning and knock out the 18-miler that I was supposed to do on Saturday.  Didn't really have any specific route in mind, but I figured I'd do 2-3 loops, stopping to re-fill my handheld and take GU.  As usual when I run in the early morning, I started slow, averaging 8:03 pace for the first 6 miles before my first stop.  I specifically remember thinking to myself during this section how heavy and out-of-shape I felt.  Started back up with a gradual climb into a steeper downhill and then a short uphill, and my legs finally started to turn over.  Stopped once more around 11.5 miles for another refill/GU, and headed back out for the last 6.5.  Legs were feeling really good now, and I progressively worked my way down from the 7:30s into the 7:20s and ultimately down to 6:47 for my last mile.

Overall it was a really good run:  18 miles, 7:40/mile, 139 AHR.

hurricane isaias blowing through right now- just watched it snapped a tree in half across the street.

eta: will wait just a bit before running later.

Ive found they get all aggressive when there are little ones around.  Then watch out!

I think it's almost done here.  We were on the west side of the low so didn't get much in the way of wind other than a few gusts.  Plenty of rain though - folks with rain gauges are saying ~7", most of it over 2-3 hours.  Needless to say, a lot of flash flooding.  Hoping to get out around dinner time and check out the paths near the local stream.
