Do the nagging injuries go away after a mile or so, or do you feel it the entire run? It's a shame that they haven't cleared up by now with all your time off.

I appreciate that, but my running days are pretty much over. I get out from time to time, but my body is breaking down. The neck issues are really bad right now, so once we get through the busy AC season I'm going to start the process of seeing what's really wrong.
Stomach issues have been tough this summer too, but I seem to have stabilized on that front right now.
Plus the desire is pretty much gone. If this is it I had a pretty decent run there and proved some things to myself. But I don't ever see any more heavy training for me.

@Zasada, thanks for always noticing my runs! My knee is a roller coaster. Some days it feels like a 7/10 (about the highest it gets), and other days it’s like a 3/10. Unfortunately, it’s been on the lower half of the scale recently. I took a big step back from running last week due to swelling and pain. I’m still working hard and trying to push through.

For the record, and for anyone that wants to offer info, the only thing I've been considering on pretty much all my runs is breathing. I don't really look at my watch at all - the only exception is when it buzzes for the mile marker I will glance at the time and my heart rate but really I don't care too much where they are as long as I'm still breathing in a regular, easy pattern.

Shoe stuff…Been listening/reading some recent stuff on the Alphafly 2s that are releasing worldwide ahead of TBD release in the US. Not overwhelmingly sounding like an big upgrade over the 1s and the 1s are getting discounted a good bit now while they last. Grabbed a pair of the lemon yellow 1s to try later on in training to see if they supplant the Vaporflys for me.

got a call from my dad while I went on a short run, he’s in the hospital now. He’s been dealing with shortness of breath all week after doing better before. He had multiple weeks in the hospital already this year, a few heart attacks and a stroke. So now we’ll see how he’s doing. Mom is blind so not overly helpful. My sister has been dealing with this all year as I’m 7 hours away. So today is my turn, while she takes my wife and daughter to the cake bake (girls day!)

Sorry to hear about your dad. Hopefully things get as good for him as they can. My dad is kind of in the same boat. Has a lot of health problems these days and has been in and out of the hospital several times recently. He's only about 1.5 hours away (near Louisville) but still far enough that it's hard to help out with much.
I will definitely see you in November at the Monumental. Looking forward to it!

This morning I was questioning the "feeling like a runner" thing I posted recently, and then I remembered what a roller coaster I was on all the time before, and then I finished my run, did some stuff around the house, have had a shower and some lunch, and I feel almost like a runner again. That's a lot of ands up there but I hope you guys are ready for the ambling, aimless, pointless, barrage of postings in capable of... cause it feels like they are likely on their way!

-finished 100 mile last day with a low 6 min mile
- said no Advil etc the entire cross country 61 days 50 miles per day
- ran a firecracker 5k at the beach this morning < 19 minutes

For me: Reed’s Lake Trailblazer 5K …smaller (370 runners) race in Grand Rapids, not far from our cottage. 21:35 …7:06/ mi.

These things are like airline crashes -- the swiss cheese model applies: Had he taken his phone, or water, or didn't run hard, or didn't run a new route, or mapped it better on his watch, nobody would know his name today.

I think I'm finally starting to acclimate a bit. It wasn't as bad as @gianmarco's 169 last night, but this morning the SI was 156 for me. I was still a sweaty mess (apparently you sweat more as you acclimate), but my HR averaged 122, and it didn't feel quite a brutal as it normally does.
Props to Gian and Mrs. G for running with the sun up in those temps/humidity, though. Wow.
I'll consider this good R2R2R training for when I hit the midday heat in the canyon. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

I sometimes I forget how old you are with your race results and training. I didn’t initially appreciate this performance as much as I should have until I plugged your time into an age-graded calculator. This was an opportune post for me. I think about this group quite a bit, but have a really hard time participating since I don't run any more. All these years later and I still struggle to admit that I no longer have the burning desire to run. I wouldn't call it gone, but the process just doesn't interest me enough to relight the fire. The bike has been a great substitute - incredible workouts without the wear and tear.

Posted about this in a couple other threads, but I'm coming off a week in the hospital being treated for a pulmonary embolism. I've been a runner for years, and when the pandemic hit I started running every day, which may have ended up saving my life in two different ways: First, the docs told me that the exercise likely strengthened my heart so that it was able to pump through the clot longer than it would have otherwise. Second, my daily runs served as an "early warning" system; I noticed earlier in the week that I was getting unusually winded while running and started making doctor's appointments to figure out what was going on; by the time I woke up a few days later with a resting heart rate of 97, I knew something was up and went straight to the ER, where they ran the test that found my PE.
Anyway, I've been home from the hospital for 10 days, feeling good, and it was killing me not to be able to run (my wife would only let me go for short walks in our neighborhood, always after the sun went down). Yesterday, we met with the cardiologist, who said there was no immediate danger in resuming my daily runs, as long as I eased back into it. So last night I went out for the first time and felt great! Didn't feel winded in the slightest, even when I picked up the pace a little at the end.
Wanted to post about it here to take both a physical and metaphorical victory lap.
Anyway, I've been home from the hospital for 10 days, feeling good, and it was killing me not to be able to run (my wife would only let me go for short walks in our neighborhood, always after the sun went down). You’re definitely missed around here, you brought an excitement to the process of training/improvement that has never been replaced. Running isn’t the only path, just the path a lot of us have chosen. I sometimes wonder how this thread is going to change when we’re no longer capable of going for PRs. I wouldn’t be surprised if my focus ends up being more overall health rather than running performance. For me, I like Peter Attia’s idea training for the Centenarian Olympics.I lurk from time to time to keep tabs on you guys.

I still get that HR jump when I think about running guys into the ground at the end of a 5K, but man my body feels like its going to fall apart when I go for a run. Ankle, knee, calf. You name it.
I'm disappointed there isn't more chatter about power meters for runners.
I'm learning how to use one on the bike and I keep thinking about what it would've been like to have something like this in marathons.I'd happily clutter the thread up with my biking quests. I raced an XC race in the spring that had a major lightbulb go off for me. I always thought the podiums were filled with these riders that were better technical riders than me, but I was severely mistaken. Its more 80% fitness/20% bike handling. I held onto the lead pack for the first few miles and had visions of winning, but then I remembered how out of shape I was. I've been pedaling my ### off ever since.
The peloton was the launching point - now I'm having fun on the road and considering racing some crits.

You should stay. @Bronyis our resident expert biker. @tri-man 47has "tri" in his name for god sakes! Myself, @gruecd, @JShare87and @bushdocdaride the Peloton from time to time (more so in the winter).
I think about our run together at the Philadelphia Marathon in 2012 or 2013 timeframe (?). About 5 minutes before seeing this post, I found out I was selected to lead the 3:50 pace group this year. Looking forward to running the streets of Philadelphia this November. Hope you and the family are doing well!

LOL. I'm no expert, but have been putting in a lot of time in the saddle. Just like running, you think you have a good day and then you see your Strava feed and see that someone like SteveC702 or Harris just finished biking to Seattle and back. Humbling, inspiring and sometimes annoying all at the same time.

I was never an over sharer on here when it came to running and I've certainly been skittish about clogging up the thread with cycling stuff. But I do appreciate a little home here on the FFA to check in with updates on milestones, setbacks and just stuff that happens out on the roads and trails. Thanks for confirming @SteelCurtain!
