Randall Cobb looking like a must start WR3 in Return Leagues (1 Viewer)

We reward return yards at half the pace of rush/rec yards with 0.5 ppr and with those settings, Cobb outscored both Julio and BMarsh this weekend. It was interesting to watch Cobb used so extensively and dynamically. I've been comping him to Percy Harvin for a while now and week one was the epitome of that comparison with Cobb playing 3rd down RB and taking 19 snaps from the backfield.

So does he become a must start now in start 3 WR return leagues? I'm smelling a base of 4-8 pts per week on return yardage with significant weekly upside as a diverse playmaker in an elite offense.

I know he had a big week one last season, and then disappeared, but a lot has changed since then with Driver phased out and a full offseason and rookie year under Cobb's belt. Plus now there is talk of a Jennings groin issue.

Week one heroes fade every year and this year will be no different with the likes of Ogletree, Hill and Kerley in the mix, but my gut is saying Cobb's week one wasn't an anomaly. Talk me down or feel free to join me in a Cobb love fest.

I need him to stay on the field so I can use him in a non-return league - Driver pretty much babysat the Gatorade cooler yesterday, so that is a good start.

My only concern is whether they keep that wrinkle in their game plan.... meaning Cobb in the backfield.

Not sure how long if they are just waiting for Green to be ready. But Cobb practiced as the guy in the backfield in the shotgun no-huddle for most of training camp.

did he ever actually carry from there - it seems like most of the time he just motioned outside, or ran a route into the flat. . .

My take, he won't be used in the exact role he was this past Sunday very often...the game dictated it more then a standard part of their every week plan. That said, I too am in a return league and I think he may just in fact be startable this year with a slight uptick of catches per game then he had last year on average.

Thanks. I enjoyed the following quote in particular:
Rodgers:(on WR Randall Cobb’s expanded role) “That’s what we’ve been talking a lot about. He’s a big-time player, a great punt returner obviously. We’re going to try to find ways to get him matched up on positive mismatches for him out there. The more opportunities we can give him in space, there’s a lot of good plays out there he had.”
The team obviously likes the guy and it's clear he's going to get all the kick and punt returns, which does wonders for his weekly floor.

My thoughts exactly. If he can't get 5 for return yards a week then all I need is 2-3 catches a game and I have a very usable guy (in my league). He showed amazing hands yesterday...that's what I was most impressed with.
