All WRs are overrated. Maybe the possession WRs are worth something (Welker, Rice, Monk types). But the big play guys...their importance is overrated.

You remember things wrong. Plenty of people were defending TO last year. He certainly had loads of haters and people who said he had a giant fork in his back, but plenty of others said he still looked good but was stuck playing on one of the worst teams in the NFL. Not many people are saying Randy still looks good. And it's not just 1 team he's looked awful with. He's been a pile of crap with 3 teams.I remember this thread... except it was about TO. Someone will bid for his services...
you make it seem like the only thing that changed on the titans was picking up moss. actually, they lost their starting qb who feuded with the coach (cant wait to hear the logical gymnastics that puts that on moss.) had to play 3rd string project rusty smith. their best wr got hurt and hasnt played.you make it seem like the patriots were doing poorly with moss. they were 3-1 and had just blown out miami.im sure everythin was going swimmingly with minnesota before he got there. im sure he incited percy harvin to fight his coach. quotes like "you said what we all wanted to say." "im gonna play hard for my teammates but not for childress" are all ofc bc moss poisoned the locker room and not bc of years of idiocy and lying by childress.Titans were 5-3 when they got him. Now they lost 5 in a row. Usually, I might give someone the benefit of the doubt, but consider what happened to NE before and after they got him. What happened in Minn? what's happening in Tenn? Fool me once, fine. twice? Three times?! How much of a pattern do you have to see before you're convinced?
TO alligator arms balls and avoids contact all the freakin time. this narrative is at least exaggerated but most likely completely false. The comparison between TO and Moss is not a good one. Sure they are both some of the most elite WR in terms of talent in the game. True, they are both divas. However, the comparison has and always will end there. T.O. gives 100% (or extremely close to it) on the football field. He is a complete player who will block, go over the middle, fight for the ball in traffic, etc. Moss will do almost none of the above (and those that he chooses to do, he will only do occasionally.)All WR's get alligator arms occasionally...Moss has turned it into an art form. He cares little about winning and less about his teammates. As a Bears fan, I used to love when he played on the Vikes. One or two good hits from a DB or LB and he would disappear for most of the game. The only reason Moss "showed up" in NE for the season he did, is that they made hime "the man" and pumped his stats along with his ego. Moss might very well be the most talented WR ever to put on a uniform - but he's not in the top 3 of all time, because he simply doesn't care to be.T.O. plays the game with heart - Moss has none. That is where the comparison completely falls apart. One tries and works and plays, even when he doesn't want to or feel like it - the other plays only when he does...which is becoming less and less often.
1. Jerry Rice only became a possession WR after he hit his middle 30's; his first 11 years in the league, he averaged 16 YPR.2. With the NFL rule shifts in the last 5+ years, the importance of the big-play receiver has increased. I don't have a link, but I remember hearing something that over the last 10 years, the number of plays per drive has steadily decreased while the average TD play length has increased. There's a reason a guy like Demaryius Thomas is a first-rounder, but a guy like Mike Thomas lasts till the 4th round. As far as Moss being done, I think there is a real possibility Tennessee releases him after the season and no team signs him. Whether it be a diminishing lack of skills or just an apathy (my guess) to the situations he has been in this season, I think the majority of teams will be scared off of what they have seen. Complete failure in three different stops has to be a red-flag.All WRs are overrated. Maybe the possession WRs are worth something (Welker, Rice, Monk types). But the big play guys...their importance is overrated.
No one to blame but himself too. This is the worst fall from grace I have ever seen in the NFL
I had to laugh at the NFL announcers last night pointing out that he'd set a good block. And how hard he worked. And what a great football mind he had.No one to blame but himself too. This is the worst fall from grace I have ever seen in the NFL
All that going unclaimed on waivers says, is that 23ish teams did not want him at a $6 mil/year contract. Titans got him for 1/2 a season for $3 mil. I'm sure at 2 or 3 mil a year, many teams would be willing to give it a try but after rosters are filled and playbooks are learned, he wasn't worth the remaining 2010 contract.Actually, iirc, the Pats were going to put in a claim for him, but they were dead last in waivers at the time, and had no shot at him.I would not be surprised to see him back with the Pats next year on a cheap, incentive-laden deal.I believe it was actually reported that only one team put in a waiver pick for him.And what, 21 teams (23 if you count vikings and new england), didn't want him if they had the chance. At least 2/3 of nfl teams wouldn't even claim him off waivers. This is telling. And he isn't doing anything in Tennessee to improve his stock for next year. That said, I agree that someone will sign him next year. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. With Brett likely gone Randy takes center stage as NFL drama queen. I can see him back in New England playing for peanuts because nobody will offer him that one last big deal...not anymore....he was put out there for everyone ...
The whole "Patriots are better wihtout him" is complete and utter BS. They were 3-1 with him. Would they have been 4-0 without him? How do you know? What's their record since he played in NE? Titans and MN were trainwrecks before he got there. No, he didn't turn them around. That doesn't mean he can't go somewhere next season and be very good. He was very effective in MN at drawing coverage and it really opened things up for Harvin when he arrived.I think at this point, the titans would be hard pressed to re-sign the guy after the disaster of the season they had with him. In 5 games, he's caught a whopping 60 something yards. The Pats are a better team now than with him not there.Minnisota imploded when he was thereTenneessee is the loser of 5 straight ever since he got there.Coincidence? Perhaps, but I don't think so. Whatever Randy juice he's putting into the drinking fountains at each of his stops, teams are keeling over. He's making TO look like The Dali Lama.So....what happens to Randy next year? What team would take a flyer on him? Or does he retire or go the UFL?
They are 9-1 since he was shipped out of town. They have undoubtedly been better this year without him.The whole "Patriots are better wihtout him" is complete and utter BS. They were 3-1 with him. Would they have been 4-0 without him? How do you know? What's their record since he played in NE?
He's hardly being used! When he is inserted into the lineup by the Titans, he is only a decoy. He'll loaf on plays, that is a given. But I would take a driven Randy Mossover many of the WRs today.I think at this point, the titans would be hard pressed to re-sign the guy after the disaster of the season they had with him. What does this mean?An awesome source told me Fisher is handling him behind the scenes. that's the extent of the text, no more info.
Show me somebody with "a bit" less talent than Moss who gives 100% and I'll show you a pro-bowler. I suspect somebody will sign him, but then I've always had a soft spot for Randy and am biased.Let's see, I'm an owner and my team needs a #1 WR to be complete and make a serious run at a title. Do I really want to sign a guy who "Plays when he wants" and gives up at the first sign of adversity? Or do I want to go find a guy with a bit less talent who I know is going to give me 100% the whole season?
Handling his what?An awesome source told me Fisher is handling him behind the scenes. that's the extent of the text, no more info.
I took it as Moss is doing something wrong and Fish is dealing with it. Could be anything-attitude, work ethic, attendance, route running, studying, filmwork....anything.What does this mean?An awesome source told me Fisher is handling him behind the scenes. that's the extent of the text, no more info.
