what makes you think it is his decision? this is standard patriot player management. What context was this in? Why would he do this?
They showed the clip on NBC/Football Night in America. I don't think he was asked a specific question, he made it a point to say this would be his last year. He did say he likes being on the team, but again he feels "unwanted".What context was this in? Why would he do this?
the only attaboy that will matter is a market value contract. but ne doesnt operate that way. and ultimately, moss will come out looking way worse in all this.He also said that being "unhappy has nothing to do with toning his game down." He doesn't feel that he's appreciated, but he's a man and he really takes his job to heart. He wants to be in New England, but he feels like he's being painted in a negative light and he wants the REAL fans to know that he's not here to cause trouble but no way is he done. Randy is an emotional person, but he does so much good under the radar and he always tries to be honest even if it's inappropriate timing. Paint him in a negative light if you want, but it's only to comfort your own qualms.Really N.E. is it so hard to give Randy an "attaboy"?Not like MN can say much after we traded him in the night like a whore.
Really!?Week one and you're looking forward to next year!?Odds are highly against Favre playing another season. The same goes for Randy returning here after the way we treated him.Back to the Vikings next year? An effort to keep Favre one more year? Favre wanted Moss in Green Bay before he went to NE..
I think we can put to rest this notion that New England doesn't pay their players or give them market value contracts after they signed Wilfork to one of the highest deals for a DT and made Brady the highest paid player in the league. If they want a player around they will pay more than a fair price.the only attaboy that will matter is a market value contract. but ne doesnt operate that way. and ultimately, moss will come out looking way worse in all this.He also said that being "unhappy has nothing to do with toning his game down." The Patriots paid Wilfork because NT is an important position in BB's defense and he is one of the best. Brady is their franchise, he's invaluable. Moss and Mankins aren't critical to the team's success.I think we can put to rest this notion that New England doesn't pay their players or give them market value contracts after they signed Wilfork to one of the highest deals for a DT and made Brady the highest paid player in the league. Oh really? Ask Wes Welker how much value Randy has to that offense. Notice Welker one on one all day? That is because Randy is taking up 2 other guys. IF Randy goes...Welker becomes average....very average.Get a clue NE fans. I don't think he maxed out his contract. He got market value, but he definitely could have held out for more. There was no way he was going to take less than Eli. The better Manning will make much more, and Brees will as well. If Brady wanted to ramp up the contract, he would have waited for P. Manning to sign.Remember early in the decade when Peyton Manning took a market-value contract and Tom Brady took a below-market contract and all the New England fans were crowing about what a great team player Brady was and how this is why Peyton would never win anything? Well, first off, I wanted to point out how those guys never really had anything to say about the fact that Brady went out this time and got the richest contract he possibly could. But mostly, I think the reason Brady got as much money as he possibly could this time is because he knew management would screw him like they did last time, where he took a cheaper contract to free up money for the front office to spend on getting him weapons, and the front office never actually spent it on getting him weapons. Remember 2006 when his receivers were Reche Caldwell and the corpse of Tim Brown? I think Tom learned his lesson. I think Tom maxed out his contract this time because he suspected the front office was going to screw him and refuse to pay Moss.

if you polled ne fans i am sure it would be a landslide in favor of paying moss. just as it woulda been for lawyer milloy, for deion branch, for vrabel. but the ne franchise doesnt operate like that, rightly or wrongly. given their track record, i would lean toward the side of "rightly."Oh really? Ask Wes Welker how much value Randy has to that offense. Notice Welker one on one all day? That is because Randy is taking up 2 other guys. this is proly part of it. but mostly i think his pouting is genuine. i mean, can you really ask him to perform at his job any better than he did the last 3 yrs? and in return he gets sent on his way.Moss probably thinks he can guilt trip the Patriots into giving him a new contract by continuously pouting about not feeling wanted in public, but I doubt that'll work.
Which defense do you think was better . . . the one with guys in their prime like Law, Milloy, Seymour, Vrabel, McGinnest, Johnson, Bruschi, Harrison, and Samuel. Or the one years later with players that were way older or retreads from other teams?Moss had nothing to do with the defense getting long in the tooth.Moss is one of the most talented WR every to play, I don't doubt this. I'm just saying that Brady won three SBs with pedestrian WR like Caldwell, Gaffney, Patten, Branch, etc. While Moss makes them a much more dynamic offense, the offense is still predicated on throwing to different receivers. I would love to see the Patriots resign Moss, but if they don't, Brady can make someone like Brandon Tate into a star.
Then don't put him out there for a press conference.HE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT UP AND PLAY

They should let Welker walk after next year then too.Have they won a SB with him?
thats exactly why they put him out there. it is a very good gamble that his whining will make him look bad to the fans. and ofc the media will perpetuate that. Then don't put him out there for a press conference.HE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT UP AND PLAY
they likely willThey should let Welker walk after next year then too.Have they won a SB with him?
The Pats brought him back from the dead, where was he before that? After his injury, he was dead in the water, and most of us thought his career was over. Just play out your contract and keep that stuff behind closed doors. All this does is hurt the team, and shows his sellfishness. He is a big selfish baby, and if I was kraft, I would start preparing for life without Randy, and let him walk. I hope he gets signed by the bills, ask TO about that. Then don't put him out there for a press conference.HE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT UP AND PLAY
This definitely occurred to me. bostonfred was one of the most vocal about this issue, using it to simultaneously praise Brady and rip Peyton Manning.Remember early in the decade when Peyton Manning took a market-value contract and Tom Brady took a below-market contract and all the New England fans were crowing about what a great team player Brady was and how this is why Peyton would never win anything? I've noticed as I read various posts on football message boards how much supposition is made with so little knowledge.really -- what's the point?it's like guys who feel compelled to offer entirely random opinions on all kinds of games they have no informed opinion on just for the sake of picking them.Remember early in the decade when Peyton Manning took a market-value contract and Tom Brady took a below-market contract and all the New England fans were crowing about what a great team player Brady was and how this is why Peyton would never win anything? He was never a big star, but Deion Branch got a pretty hefty contract from Seattle as a result of his play in NE. And how did that turn out? Let's face it...Brady has proven he can win without having great receivers. The fact that he hasn't won one with Moss and Welker (yet) is more about the decline of their defense the last few years.Who has Brady made into a star outside of the Moss era?Moss is one of the most talented WR every to play, I don't doubt this. Good point on Branch, forgot about him.Although the Pats lost the Super Bowl with Moss, that team was much, much, much better and more likely to win one than any previous team Brady played on. The guy was asked a question and he answered it. I don't think there is anything wrong with what he said. What's he gonna do? If he tanks/sulks nobody will give him a monster deal. He needs to zip it and play football. He's not going to force Kraft/Billichek into anything.
What's the point of discussing football on a football discussion forum? Ummm... I think discussing football *IS* the point.Look, Tom Brady took a below-market deal the last time he signed a long-term contract. He did not take a below-market deal this time. It seems pretty obvious to me that something must have changed. Based on how unhappy he was with the Patriots in 2006 (according to the Boston media), I think it's pretty obvious what changed. The fact that the Pats have reportedly convinced Moss that he's not wanted anymore (not speculation: he said as much during his press conference), I think that theory seems pretty plausible. As for the rest of it... it wasn't speculation to point out that Pats fans were crowing about how selfish Peyton Manning was for taking a market-value contract, but they're nowhere to be seen now that Brady has done the same. That's just simple observation.I've noticed as I read various posts on football message boards how much supposition is made with so little knowledge.really -- what's the point?it's like guys who feel compelled to offer entirely random opinions on all kinds of games they have no informed opinion on just for the sake of picking them.

I agree, although he put all of that out there before the questions. Not like the press hasn't been hounding him about it in the past few days, or tried to rip him apart in their follow up questions in an attempt to make him look like pond scum.Randy wears his emotion on his sleeve, it's not like it's his life or anything...oh wait. He does have the right to complain as much as he wants to because they don't pay him to say nice things. Shutting up and playing are two different things. Last time that I checked he's a WR and not a PR guy for the Patriots. The guy was asked a question and he answered it. I don't think there is anything wrong with what he said. What's he gonna do? If he tanks/sulks nobody will give him a monster deal. He needs to zip it and play football. He's not going to force Kraft/Billichek into anything.
I'm sorry. I'll stick to the facts, then.Fact: Tom Brady signed a contract extension in 2005 that was widely considered to be below market value.only you aren't discussing football -- you're discussing your imagination and offering it up as something more.
Brady took a fair market deal because . . . it was a fair market deal. How many times is a guy supposed to take LESS money. How many times has either Manning taken less? And Brady will not stay the higher paid QB (based on average annual salary). Both Peyton and Brees will get more than Brady did. So Brady could end up being slightly below market value soon anyway. As for Moss, the Pats have not said they don't want Moss back. In fact, they've said the opposite. To anyone paying even REMOTE attention, NE has/had a lot of players with contract issues. Why Moss persists on pouting that he hasn't been extended servesno purpose. The Pats aren't going to get rid of him, and hecan't go anywhere at the moment.Assuming that the franchise tag is still around, NE could always franchise him next year. And they still have time to work out an extension. At this point, I really doubt Moss will bolt to the highest bidder especially if it's on a team that cannot win ASAP. So the team would have to be 1) a serious contender, 2) have a top shelf QB, 3) need a WR1, 4) be willing to pay Moss the money he wants, and 5) be willing to accept the backlash of paying way more for a free agent than giving out more money to guys already on their team. I'm guessing the options will be fewer than one might think. In terms of production, I think Moss after this year will have one really good year, one decent year, and one year as a WR2 left in him. Of course, that would be in a situation similar to the one he's in now (passing offense with a top QB). Put him on a team that runs all the time with a meh QB and I would have to rethink that.Bottom line, Moss likes NE and BB and Brady want Moss back. I still think there is a very good chance Moss stays in NE. All his whining is little more than posturing. What's the point of discussing football on a football discussion forum? Ummm... I'd be kind of surprised if randy was interested in that as he doesn't need the money, and he's already torn up money to escape oakland.I'd give randy maybe 3 more years before snyder offers him 4y/50m.It wouldn't surprise me if Daniel Snyder were to pursue him if trade rumors start or next season if Moss is a FA.
I don't think it's money or a ring Moss wants. I think he just wants to feel "wanted", he's a diva. If he was after a ring, he'd keep his mouth shut and play lights out. Do that and be flexible with his contract demands, the Pats would sign him in the off-season.I'd be kind of surprised if randy was interested in that as he doesn't need the money, and he's already torn up money to escape oakland.I'd give randy maybe 3 more years before snyder offers him 4y/50m.It wouldn't surprise me if Daniel Snyder were to pursue him if trade rumors start or next season if Moss is a FA.

Fact: The media reported that he signed a smaller contract so that New England would have more cash to surround him with weapons (see previous link).
Fact: New England did not use the money to surround Brady with weapons. In fact, New England let Brady's weapons walk, resulting in the 2006 Patriots receiving corps.
Fact: Boston media reported that Brady was rather miffed at the team for that.
Fact: Brady just signed a new contract. This time, he did not sign for below market value.
Fact: New England's biggest weapon just held a press conference saying he's convinced the Patriots are about to let him walk.
That's a lot of dots right there. I'd connect them, but this is a football message board, not a connect-the-dots message board.
Two more facts.
Fact: Peyton Manning signed a huge (market value) contract. Patriots fans held this up as proof that he was not a team player.
Fact: Tom Brady just signed a huge (market value) contract. Patriots fans have been strangely silent.
Again, I'm just posting facts related to football and not speculating in the slightest bit about whether there might be any link between them whatsoever.
yeah, I know randy gets this whole pouting rap nationally, but I don't see this as similar to his raiders situation.I wouldn't worry about it.The real question in fantasy that I assume we care about, or at least what I care about as a Moss owner is will he pout and play as he did for the Raiders, or will he give true Randy Moss production?
I'd worry more. The Raiders didn't have many other options, they had to play Moss when he was pouting. In NE, Moss could pout and his play declines, or even if he maintains effort but irks Belichick, then the coach won't have any problem having him sit on the bench. BB will sit him, making an example of him, BB won't cater to him or try to make nice.yeah, I know randy gets this whole pouting rap nationally, but I don't see this as similar to his raiders situation.I wouldn't worry about it.The real question in fantasy that I assume we care about, or at least what I care about as a Moss owner is will he pout and play as he did for the Raiders, or will he give true Randy Moss production?
