Rank your top 5 "Rock" albums from the past 20 years (released in 2003 or later) (1 Viewer)

Just observing....I've been listening to a lot of the acts mentioned...taking it all in.

The "what is rock" debate was inevitable. I mean, that's vintage FFA.

AM - Arctic Monkeys
Earth Rocker - Clutch
Elephant - the White Stripes
Futures - Jimmy Eat World

Indy rock, groove rock, garage rock, and emo rock.

Honorable mention: Transgender Dysphoria Blues - Against Me! (punk rock)

This is a really good question. Without doing too much serious thought this is what came to mind

5 Self Titled - Fuzz
4 Amputechture - The Mars Volta
3 Sleeping Through the War - All Them Witches
2 Like Clockwork - Queens of the Stone Age
1 Self Titled - Them Crooked Vultures

You really like Queens of the Stone Age, huh?
I think they are a great band. Josh Homme kind of turns me off but the music overrides that

Taylor Swift? I mean she's 100% pop......I mean maybe folk I guess......rock? That does not seem like the proper genre for her.
That was me giving a nod to my fourteen year old daughter. We listen to it all the time. Wasn't even thinking about it genre wise.
All good......it's cool that you guys enjoy her music together! At the end of the day, that's all that matters

I just saw a loophole for everyone: "Rock" is in quotes in the thead title which means we can have a very loose definition of "rock".

  • Toadies - Heretics - 2015
I was unaware they had any recently released music

Heretics kinda cheats as it's mostly accoustic versions of earlier songs. Three off Rubberneck, two off Hell Below/Stars Above and three off Play.Rock.Music.

That said, they did have new albums in 2010 (Feeler finally released), 2012 (Play.Rock.Music) and 2017 (The Lower Side of Uptown). Also 4 live albums and a couple of EPs, including last year. They tour pretty regularly (often playing Rubberneck from start to finish) and I catch them 2 or 3 times a year, including a standing New Year Eve Eve show at Billy Bob's to celebrate Toadies Day.

Toadies first two were great....used to listen to em a lot in late 90's, early 00's....kinda lost em after that. I will have to check out. Thanks

  1. Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood
  2. Volbeat - Beyond Hell/Above Heaven
  3. Green Day - American Idiot
  4. White Stripes - Elephant
  5. Foo Fighters - In Your Honor.
I'm surprised with all the debate about "Is it Rock?" that it took this long for the Foo Fighters to show up on a list.
I really like "Wasting Light" from them and won't apologize for it.

I'm sorry, where's your list, "guy who sh!t s on everyone else's list"?

All in due time GB.

I can promise you this, there will no ****ing Costello, Rush, Maiden or Priest (have no idea if they've released anything over the past 20 years and don't want to know)

Iron Maiden released Book of Souls in 2015 and it’s pretty good material. Didn’t make my top 5 though but Maiden is the greatest heavy metal band of all time.

Just ran across this thread. My top 5, limiting to one album per artist:
  1. In Your Honor - Foo Fighters, 2005
  2. MTV Unplugged - Pearl Jam, 2020 (recorded in 1992, released in 2020)
  3. Meteora - Linkin Park, 2003
  4. Some Devil - Dave Matthews, 2003
  5. In Rainbows - Radiohead, 2007
Just missed:
  1. Highway Companion - Tom Petty, 2006
  2. Out of Exile - Audioslave, 2005 (self-titled first album would have made top 5, but released in Nov 2002)
  3. Blink-182 - Blink-182, 2003
  4. Natural Selection - Fuel, 2003
  5. Light Grenades - Incubus, 2006
Of these 10 albums, pretty sure I only saw 2 mentioned: In Your Honor and In Rainbows.
